Coldplay is easy listening music that people have fooled themselves into thinking is cool.
Don't panic! Some say we never change, but I don't think that's true. The more you listen to them, the more you will feel the sparks of interest starting to form, like a whisper in your head saying, "It's OK to not be so indie and admit that Coldplay songs make me shiver because of their beauty." You may be frightened, may think this is a warning sign of trouble ahead -- maybe some spies (with some help from the scientist and his gadgets) are planting thoughts in your head? But there's no need for paranoia...it's just the inevitable acceptance that Coldplay ROCKS. Everything's not lost. We won't think any differently of you -- and besides, it's only music, y'know? Life is for living, after all.

Eh. Whatever. I have no problem putting their CDs on my shelf next to the more obscure "ain't I cool" bands.

Coldplay is indeed easy listening.

That said, the song "A Rush of Blood to the Head" merits the $9.99 I paid for that CD (though I never listen to any other tracks on it).

I'm worried that I'm slowly becoming as cynical as mr. bell woods. o_O

I've heard the new single...and it works excellently as music to put me to sleep. Even when I'm not sleepy though. It's got nothing to do with their image or anything like that, it's just that the music isn't edgy enough, and "Speed of Sound" especially doesn't really go anywhere. Not to mention the fact that it sounds disturbingly similar to "Clocks", and the cheesy, faux-uplifting lyrics grate the nerves. Blah to that I say.

Parachutes is a great album. The stuff they did before that is also damn good (check the Without Parachutes bootleg album) But with A Rush... the spark went off a bit. It's more of the same and it just doesn't get me as much. The new single is already too boring for me, I'm able to annoy my ass of on the first line wich is IMO a hella lame line. Coldplay will never become as good as they were.

We need star power to come in and complete the cycle.

Speed of Sound is rather boring. I was expecting something supposedly DIFFERENT, and EDGY, that's what they told NME. This isn't EDGY, this is adult rock.

Coldplay is a good band, but their best days are behind them. Parachutes is an incredible album. A Rush of Blood to the Head is at a distant second. I expect more of the same from their third. I've seen them live, though. They put on an amazing show and the band is definitely tight; they know exactly what they're doing. Radiohead was still better, however. :D

Haven't heard it, but I'm not so fond of Coldplay to begin with.

What does that mean?

Dude, we get it. Seriously. You hate Coldplay. It's ok. Not everyone does. I agree they haven't been so great lately, but there's no need to go on a crusade against the band.

Heh, coldplay is decidedly uncool. But I still like them
New single is ok, I was never a big fan of Clocks and this is in the same style although quite a bit better

Wow, I just...err..."got a hold of" the new Coldplay single, and though I honestly didn't like it too much at first, after repeated listening it's become my new favorite song. :D Infectious. Not as good as Clocks imo (and I can't see why the comparisons between the two are being made beyond the fact that they both have a slightly "dreamy" quality to their sounds), but great in its own right.

Is the new album out? If so, that's a guaranteed purchase for me. :) I'm a Kenny G lovin' mofo! ;)

I love it as well as Talk. I'll need to hear album-quality versions of the other new singles since it's kinda tough to get a feel for them from that live recording back in mid March, but I definitely like what I heard. I'm absolutely dying to get a hold of X&Y though... Coldplay is right behind oasis for my favorite band.

Some sites are saying the album's UK date is now 5/23... so we can hope it's a.) not a mistake and has been moved forward and b.) gets moved forward in the US as well to 5/24.

Fix you, twisted logic.

Hah, I knew I had heard that frantic percussion line in the background of a song before: "Jaded" by Aerosmith.

I don't understand the reference.

I think this track is pretty weak. I think 'Talk' is a much better song.

I hope this track isn't anything to go by as what the album will be like. I was hoping it'd be more edgier and not so soft and 'adult rock' type.

Oh, I thought he meant Raiden from Mortal Kombat.

I still don't really get what the correct reference means, though.

It means that, next to other things, you are gay-ish.
