Coleco re-releasing their "Mini Arcade" tabletop units.

I have this pacman game.

handheld_pacman.jpg

I had this one, but I always wanted one of those little arcade machines, only because they looked like little arcade machines.

Those VFD (they weren't LED displays) games were so much better than the LCD games of the day. But I guess they were just too power hungry.

Me too, the little arcade machines look so cool. One day I'll get one, but I probably will get these new ones if the price is right.

I have the DK Jr; got it for my 8th or 9th Bday. They can pry it from my cold dead hands.

Interesting note: I put new batteries in it over a year ago and they're still going strong. Not that I play it ever...I guess because the screen isn't illuminated?

Ok my turn. Bet you didn't know that in Japan a company called Gakken released a mini table top arcade for Dig Dug with a VFD screen? Well they did and I own one, got it off eBay four years ago:

My cousins had the Pacman one when we were kids. I'm gonna buy one now and not let them play with it.

Edit: And hold the phone! Coleco flashback console? 60 games for $40? BRB preordering!

I hope they have the original screen tech, so bright and colorful and nostalgic. If I wanted an actual LCD tabletop arcade machine I could make it myself (in fact, I've done so in the past).

I couldn't find a .gif for how far down my jaw dropped when I read this news. I LOVE collecting things like these and so far the eBay prices on the originals are too high. I'll probably buy several, especially Donkey Kong.

Holy shit, Nostalgia hitting hard right now. I had the Galaxian one when I was in grade school but it got stolen while we were away for March break. Someone broke into the house via the basement window and strangely it was the only thing taken. I had brought it to school the week prior for Show-n-Tell so it was likely some punk in my class. Never did find out who took it nor did I get a replacement....until now.

These things gotta be cheap to make. If they price them well enough I'll pick up quite a few. If they list them for outrageous prices I'm out. Potentially could quell my desire for a bartop cabinet to go along will my full size cabinet. . .

This? Great stuff~

Oh god the feels...

This is the part where I get sorely tempted to visit ebay. But that didn't work out too well for my bigtrak (broken). But my tomy Armatron robot arm is great :)

The late 70's/early 80's were amazing. Bigtrak was a fully programmable robot that basically used a logo style language to drive around and shoot your dog with a blue light bulb. You could even get a trailer for it that could be programmed to tip. Armatron was insane - a fully six degrees of freedom robotic arm (including two speeds for each movement) - entirely mechanically driven from a single motor. And of course super cobra etc were proper little arcade machines in our homes :)

had to look up ColecoVision flashback. looks like they are releasing a Coleco console with some old games and funky ass old Coleco controllers.

(my spellchecker flags Coleco and ColecoVision, but not Atari. wtf bias!) :p

I had the Frogger tabletop and a friend had Donkey Kong. another family had that weird looking Pac Man thing up there. of course everyone had a game n' watch or two as well. love these things!

By god Google solves every mystery, this is the Dracula game I had and was talking about above. Crazy memories

dracula.jpg

that looks fucking awesome! I want to play it.

I have an Epoch Galaga rip off machine around somewhere. good game.

I had one, years ago, but I don't remember which game. Pac-man or Frogger, was it? I don't remember how we got it, but it was second-hand. I do remember that it was a blast to play, but finding batteries for it was a constant struggle. I wish I knew what happened to that little machine. I'd buy all of these if only I had the cash. :(

those football games were the shit. there were 2 players ones as well. so cool.

I have a handheld soccer game like these, brown plastic casing. forget the brand...

The memories of childhood! I had the Mrs. Pac Man one and much preferred it to my Pac Man game on the 2600. Despite both versions sharing the limitation that the characters couldn't look up or down, this little arcade cabinet version looked much closer to the arcade than the 2600 pac man.

I remember the stick on the machine went out and you had to slam it really hard to get mrs pac man to go where you wanted and I still loved the fuck out of that thing.

ITT we share classic handheld gaming memories...

I never owned a real Pac-man, but I did own Packri Monster. It was really quite awesome.

A friend of mine owned this game, BMX Flyer game, and I loved it to death. So I bought one 20 years later...

The screen is really great...

Also, I loved LCD games, and had this neato Monster Panic game:

I always wanted one of the Pac-man tabletop games, but the sounds were terrible. The Ms. Pac-man was much more refined in the sound area. And I found a Zaxxon in good shape at a flea market once ... with a screen broken into pieces. Just the case was good... :(

I have packri-monster as well, same form factor as Frisky Tom. Boy those old games were really loud and no volume control at all, like this one I also have:

More electro-mechanical, but pretty cool.

And Coleco Amaze-A-Tron, which I had as a kid, 8 types of games featuring randomly generated mazes, really cool and really loud:

I got Pac Man and Frogger from a garage sale a few years ago. Pac Man still works, I have it on my shelf in my living room. Not sure about Frogger. I threw it in the closet and haven't bothered to see if it works.

One thing I hope they have include in this new version is VOLUME Control! Seriously, the sound in Pac Man is annoying as hell when you're playing.

This may be of interest to you...

I love the video and the game looks amazing

Haha yeah that's it. I can remember playing that game sitting on the toilet when I was like 8 years old. It was the neighbor kid's who was like 16 and he gave it to me because he liked my sister who was his age. Dude was just trying to get in her pants and giving toys to her little brother and shit to get in the house. Good lord...

I used to have pac man and donkey kong as a kid. They were awesome!

I'm assuming Donkey Kong won't be rereleased. :(
Coleco's said they're working on getting DK actually. They've also expressed interest in getting Colecovision games on Virtual Console now so who knows what might happen?

When I was a kid, I wanted an Atari 2600 in the worst way. I begged my parents for an Atari day and night. Christmas morning came and instead of an Atari, I got a table top Pacman and a tabletop Galaxian game. While I still wanted a 2600, those little guys more than kept me busy. My only problem was keeping fresh batteries in them. I wish I still had them.

My fav one as a kid was Firefox, think it was by Grandstand. That was amazing, many different levels and had trench runs like in Star Wars. Very impressive for the time.

I had the Donkey Kong machine when I was a kid, and it was amazingly fun for using LED technology:

Seriously, this thing was way ahead of those shitty Tiger handhelds. And it actually kind of played like Donkey Kong. Well, the first level of Donkey Kong, anyway.

Why does DK have a love heart on his cheek?
