This lets me know you don't like good movies. Colin has been great when given the chance.

Seriously, its real straightforward

American accent = terrible

Native Irish accent = amazing

Only possible outlier is daredevil but i would argue that he was easily the best part of the movie

Interesting. Much like McConaughey I used to dislike Colin Farrell but in recent years I have turned into an ardent fan. Miami Vice, Fright Night and In Bruges are probably my favorite movies of his. Still need to see The Way Back.

I think he's an actor that with the right director and role he could be amazing. So I'm really excited about this pick. More than the Brad Pitt rumor actually.

Real disappointed by the lack of people mentioning seven psycopaths

Jake would kill in a show like True Detective. It makes too much sense.... which means it'll never happen. :(

They would have to try too hard to make is role different enough from prisoners and end of watch

Farrell is great

hope he uses his natural accent, although he does a good American accent

American accents are really easy for most UK and Ireland actors, I guess it's because we grow up watching American shows and movies

I fuckin love Colin Farrell. Such an underrated actor who really shines when he's given the right roles (i.e. In Bruges, Seven Psychopaths, etc.)

I think he is going to be great on True Detective if this turns out to in fact be legit.

Oh God yes, In Bruges reunion.

Pretty sure I read an interview a while back where Nic Pizzolatto said True Detective will be set in America for as long as the show is going, he's not interested in doing anything overseas. He's more interested in America's criminal activity. I'll have to see if I can find the article, but I remember seeing it a while ago.

You can have Irish accents in the US. Farrell's american accent is sometimes dodgy. He seems to act better when he's Irish. But it may be because the type of films he does when he's putting on a fake accent.

...I can see this working. Nicely.

I'm patiently awaiting official announcements as the prime time Emmy's approach. GAF hype gifs should be top form.

To those underwhelmed...

Just think about this way. You have directors like Tarantino that often bring out the best in actors. (If you don't like him then whatever you get the point I'm making). Basically, sometimes the right director + right script, can really bring out an incredible performance from an actor you might not be all that fond of.

I know a lot of people didn't like Matthew McConaughey for many years (with good reason). And yeah, well he's actually had great roles prior to True Detective, I bet you anything if he was picked to play this second season role before Dallas Buyers Club, most would have groaned. Thing is, True Detective was a new show. So my point is, people now have expectations due to the high caliber placing the show has put itself in. Had True Detective been this good without Matthew and he was cast prior to Dallas, I really think that people would have been disappointed too.

I'm willing to give this a shot, because I think if the writing is strong enough, and the directing is great...I think Colin could pull off a great performance in his own way. Nothing will ever match Marty or Cohle. And nothing should. It should be its own thing.

I certainly hope they let him keep his accent because he's got a really awesome one. I'd hate to see him have to disguise it with a fake one.

No fucking way.

True Detective could have been his first role and after the performance he gave through out the season, no way someone would "groan" at the idea of him returning.

The way I wrote that was kind of confusing.

I agree that his performance was so stellar, that people would have wanted him back. What I meant to say was...

Imagine True Detective first seasons didn't have Matthew in it. But it was still heralded as this high caliber show. Then imagine that second season was coming around, and Matthew was named as the next protagonist. I think people would have groaned. Thing is, True Detective was a new show, so there was no expectations going in. Mcconaughey was actually in some fantastic roles prior to True Detective and Dallas Buyers Club. But a lot of folks really didn't like his overall career, and weren't particularly fond of the actor.

My point is, I get some not liking Colin, or being underwhelmed. But if the script is great, and the directing is on point, I do think you can really elevate and actors work to a high caliber level. I wasn't suggesting that people would have groaned if Matthew Mcconaughey was back for a second season after the first. I agree, even if it was his first role ever, the performance he gave was incredible.

From the same hometown as him. Just sayin'. I'm fairly certain his Irish accent is slightly false. He comes from a fairly rich family/area. Though he always had a bad boy image which could explain it.

Still have to watch True Detectives. I don't think an Irish network has picked it up.

I'm down. When I first saw the news, I actually thought it was Colin Firth, didn't catch on until someone mentioned him being Irish, haha. I love Sam Rockwell, so if this makes that even a tiny bit more likely, it's great.

Is he a deep actor? I probably haven't seen his good stuff, because what comes to mind is Alexander, Daredevil and Phone Booth... Not bad performances per se, but kind of surface level stuff.

Then again, I would have once said the same of Mcconaughey and Harrelson

I mean given the right role and writing, I think he can do well. Pizzolatto is a great writer so I wouldn't be too concerned. I thought Farrell put in a pretty great multi-layered performance in In Bruges.
