I don't know her full backstory, but while it can explain her behavior, it doesn't excuse it. If she doesn't recognize her own role in the polarization of the gaming community, this conversation is moot.

The audio is from 2020, the blowup about all of this was last year, the interaction , 11 days ago, was pimping Ana's crowdfunding. And of course "she" is mentally ill, shes an AGP trans. I originally thought it was GoFundMe but it's something else, either way they're promoting this persons crowdfunding. Any normal person would steer clear of Ana Valens, who like Alyssa also got fired from her job at Vice last year. They're all part of the same group of people who have been stirring up trouble since early last year.

I don't know about you guys, but if someone in my community starts talking about wanted to rape "cis" women, admits multiple times to having sexual attraction to children for years, and to using sex toys while playing games with kids, I cut that person off, I don't promote their crowdfunding, I don't engage with them...they're dead to me. All of this stuff is highly documented and well known, Alyssa knows about it and yet a year later she still has her back. Even if you think every view she has about this industry is correct and you handwave all the nonsense she started in the last year plus, there is absolutely no way to defend this.

At a certain point it doesn't matter, Clark Kent is Superman. And considering this interview is the first time I've seen her be even remotely normal, in years, I'd say the person we've seen for that entire time is the real her, and this person is a fraud who wants to change her image and sell her new book.

It's absolutely middle school tier twitter drama, but that was her entire MO on the site. Her and her idiot friends would attack people, people would attack back, she'd cry harassment for attention and it would repeat over and over again until Kotaku got sick of her and fired her. Then she, and all her cronies, fled to Bluesky when things went south, and decided to sue SmashJT because in typical crybully fashion she torpedoed her own career and can't handle accountability. Now she's in this video pretending to be a normal human being and people are like "why you so mean?".

Gamergate was when a portion of the gaming community started criticizing leftist influence in gaming media, but they were too shy to admit so they tried to frame it as "ethics in gaming journalism".

Let's be honest. It wasn't really about leftists or progressives. It was about grifters and deliberate liars; political affiliation had nothing to do with it.

A number of men and women saw an opportunity to paint all of us as bad people who just focus on Dead or Alive boob jiggle physics or Lara Croft's buttcheeks. In reality, we're not and have never been that. These are the exact same people who thought painting Evilore as a bad person would build their career. They failed. I've been reading and posting on gaming message boards for over 20 years. So I can say this with some sort of (historical) credibility; they are lying about things and are lying about people for the purporse of money. They are bad people.

I understand why a druggie like Colin would see spotlighting a piece of shit as a good move. He's in the business of making content, so he'll capitalize on whatever opportunity he has to make profitable content. Pathetic person.

Judging by the way some on this forum have no idea who either or Colin or Alyssa are or what the big deal is, I think it's safe to say that this is not to going to rock the world in anyway.

The incident with Alyssa was only 2 years ago.

Sacred Symbols plus is behind a paywall usually so it would have reached a limited amount of people had he chose to keep the interview there.

I watched it yesterday and thought it was pretty good. Refreshing to see people so much on the opposites just sitting down and talking like normal people, without some gotcha attempts and cutting each other off.

Also, I didn't recognize her at first, when I clicked on the video and Colin said "Alyssa Mercante" I did a double take.

You got this painfully wrong but considering this is what you think and you havent read up about what was the actual catalyst, something tells me you wont listen and you'll have a stubborn viewpoint on it.

Gamergate started when a mixtape type shite indie game was suddenly getting perfect 10s across the board, when people dug deeper into why it was because the journalist and developers were in like a little cult fuck club and it was obvious that game journalists were no longer providing the public an unbiased opinion

The reason it turned into a gender war is because the people involved with this game were women so they did the instant get out of jail free move "is it because im a woman?"

Sure further down the line like all things gamergate evolved to mostly just a way to shit on games and journalists and there wasnt much reason. But the initial kickoff and reasoning behind gamergate is absolutely valid, you cant have game journalists getting paid in sex for good reviews, for gamers that is bad.

Hence gamergate

I'm stating that his viewpoint on games obviously seem to be on par with those that have come in and change games for the worst. The same people that said we were the issue with games and want us pushed out.

Can you timestamp it? Because I listened to it yesterday and I don't recall him supporting Anita, if anything, he literally said has no idea what's she's talking about and the backbone of that show (fem freq) was some dude.

Listening to her wrap up the interview and talk about her old Xbox Live Halo lobbies makes it all make sense, that's exactly how she got radicalized. Those lobbies were not a place for thin-skinned normies. It was brutal, nonstop trash talk.
Her biggest mistake was becoming a writer and going on a revenge mission against gamers. All that did was radicalize the audience against her.
Same mistake on the Gamergate side was letting it turn into a revenge campaign too. What started as calling out corrupt journalists and activists trying to take over just became an excuse for some people to shit on the entire audience and try to replace them with their own crowd while completely changing games to fit their tastes.
