Pretty much agreed, even if Alabama needs 15+ players to leave early :lol

FMT brought up a interesting point, that "where is the saved money going to?" if this cap comes into play. If it's around a billion dollars a year in Rookie Contracts, this sort of cap would bring that number down ALOT. Is it saved by the owners, funnelled to the existing players, or what?

If it's just "saved" by the owners, I don't see the Union signing that Labor Contract.

Blueballs: You forgot to list the part about "possible NFL Lockout screwing everyone's ability to play in the NFL"

They'll just grey shirt them.

I like the proposal. It makes sense. The fact that a rookie who might be a complete bust is the 2nd or 3rd highest paid player on a team is just stupid.

Free agents, which is the reason the NFLPA agree with it. The players in the NFLPA are the ones that will benefit greatly from a limited rookie contract, as those extra billions which you referenced are there for them to bargain for. This isn't the sticking point between the NFLPA and the NFL though. The 18 game schedule is.

I always imagined they'd probably raise the veterans minimum salary to take advantage of some of the excess.

I imagine Salary Cap goes up, Roster Limits could go up (to attempt to make up for 18 game seasons), larger Pensions for current and former players.

Maryland Press Conference here: http://www.umterps.com/allaccess/?media=218315

Just fired coach, possible return of The Pirate King imminent.

EDIT: BOOOOOO! BOOOOOO! Only announced firing of Friedgen and formation of coaching search committee, not hiring of The Pirate King.

Firing a coach and hiring another at the same press conference would be the most brazen, asshole thing a school could possibly do.

Give them a week to pretend like they're just now starting the search. Jeez. :lol

I know, right? It's not like Bobby Lowder is running the show or anything.

You're saying that it wouldn't be looked over if Mike Leach crashed through the wall in a pirate ship like the kool aid man, screaming "Yer coaching search be over!" then swinging down from the ship onto the podium and forcibly taking command of the press conference?

Hey, we all know it's bullshit, but there are appearances to uphold.

Although... if Maryland had fired of Friedgen, announced the formation of a search committee, taken a 5-minute pee break, and then announced the hiring of Leach...

"Do you think he plans ahead, or makes it up as he goes along?"

Does the NCAA require them to interview token minority candidates? Or is it still enough of a good ole boy network that they don't have to?

Also have you Bama guys seen the new ESPN commercial where everyone is saying Roll Tide?

Noles snatched up UF's top defensive recruit today (Nick Waisome) and he'll be enrolling the day after the UA game. We're going to have to have about 10 more guys get run off to fit our expected class. :lol

I still think Timmy Jernigan ends up a Gator even though he has supposedly eliminated them.

Quick, name all the non white head coaches in BCS conferences!

Yeah, they don't.

Is Turner Gill the only one after Shannon got canned?

I think so. The only other D1 head coach I can think of is DeWayne Walker but I'm guessing there's probably 1-3 others.

maybe that's the one way to get Mike Leach to cooperate at a big program. Tell him that if he does the fundraisers and kisses alumni ass you will let him have his press conferences on a pirate ship and hire Johnny Depp as his defensive coordinator. What does UCLA have to lose?

Off the top of my head:
Joker Pillips @ UK
Charlie Strong @ UL
Mike Hayward will be @ Pitt

I was wondering how true to life it was.

Maybe a bit exaggerated (like the Funeral) but passing by on the street, in public, sure. Usually if they see you wearing something Alabama. Which I do often (big Ball Cap wearer)

In Atlanta and NYC I've had people stop what they were doing to give me a 'Roll Tide' if I'm wearing my cap. In those places it's definately like a brotherhood 'behind enemy lines' kind of thing. One time I was on a pretty shady street in the early morning and I thought I was about to get mugged when they were approaching :lol

See, if we are out of state while wearing apparel, we just smile, flash the "Hook 'em" sign, give that nod of acknowledgment that we are superior to everyone around us, and be done with it.

No need to be gaudy.

Rumor that UF might hire San Diego State's OC. Boy, that's a fearsome coaching staff they're putting together.
Are you... being sarcastic? Al Borges isn't some random WAC schlub.

Al Borges, man. He's the guy that got the best year out of Campbell in that Auburn backfield with Ronnie and Cadillac. Known for doing a good job of implement WCO at the college level.

great pick ups by Louisville snagging Bridgewater and Rogers from Miami, now we have a 5 star and a 4 star qb coming next year, by the time all is said and done Charlie Strong could have a top 25 recruiting class after his first year

SDSU has a pretty solid offense -- he has done a good job there. He's a fine coordinator but nothing about him would instill fear in anyone. UF fans would have had you believe they could literally hire anyone they wanted for each coaching vacancy.. hiring a guy from SDSU ain't making waves. And I'm all for it.

To be fair just about anyone they hire for OC is going to be a step up from what they had the past 2 years.

This.

I'm not super excited about Borges, but he has history with Muschamp so they might work well together. Of course, Addazio and Meyer worked really well together...

Muschamp is supposedly making the announcement this week. I don't really want a Malzahn type, I just want a somewhat imaginative OC who can make adjustments and knows how to develop players.

Michigan State's best WR, B.J. Cunningham, broke his foot during practice, will miss the bowl game.

How do Auburn fans fit this into the Unified Anti-War Eagle conspiracy theory?

The rumor is as an OL coach, which he is well regarded as.

so they say. I'm kind of convinced Tebow just made his OL look better than it since he could avoid sacks. Our OL has sucked the last two years.

Dreams-Visions said:
okay, but that fucking sucks.

sorry, bro. Game was going to be tough enough with him in the lineup.
Evens the injuries out. Alabama is without their best player in the secondary

Anyone else going to be watching some St. Petersburg Bowl action(lol), but yeah I got 9 on Southern Miss, so dont let me down Golden Eagles
