We had Carr at Carolina a few years ago. I still remember the dude wearing his Michael Jackson-like gloves while throwing the football and his flowing hair. I want none of that guy again :lol

he's changed now! he's your qb of the future!

Listening to Hokies radio. It's kinda of fucked up all the coaches are blaming that dropped INT as one of the main reasons for the loss.
How about their inability to block additional rushers?

or playcall an actual COUNTER to that problem?

RT @KCrunkNashville: "Dude from Ohio St just got beat down on Bourbon by Ark fan. Crowd chanted SEC afterward."

:lol

Nevermind that. How about a screen pass? Or maybe a wide receiver bubble screen? Bootleg? Jesus...such coaching ineptitude.

edit: :lol Harbaugh blowing off the reporter question and telling him to have some respect.

Now the entire NFL has a hard-on for Harb and Luck

RT @notsolegato: Trade Fisher and picks to CAR for their #1 pick. Draft Luck, hire Harbaugh, become 100% better instantly.

@riobeezy Come to Cleveland Jim harbaugh

Everyone acting like Carolina would trade the #1 pick if Luck is out, please. You think the Panthers are stupid? I would personally fly back home to Charlotte to take a shit on JR's lawn, egg his house and tp his front yard if he authorized a trade of the 1st pick. Luck is either going to be a Panther or back at Stanford next year.

you already have the great jimmy clausen! stop hogging qb's and let us give you some picks!

NFL or college? Hmm.... Sounds like an easy decision to me. Coach in the league with your brother or go to a lower league and paying job for the nostalgia factor.
Saban is making $6 million. There is not much of a difference in NFL and college HC pay rates now. I agree that it feels backwards to stay in college, but some guys desperately want to help their Alma mater and the inside word is that he is one of them.

michigan isn't paying him $6 mil :lol

and what insiders? they commented on the radio broadcast tonight that they spoke with a few boosters and they felt that harbaugh was going to the nfl because they couldn't compete salary wise.

Michigan paid 4 million to get Rich Rod. They're not afraid to throw money around.

I didn't watch the game tonight so I don't know what they said but the expectation in the CFL world is that RR will be fired in the next few days and that Harbaugh will take the job.

Man, it would be hilarious if after all this, Harbaugh went insane and decided to stay.

I mean, it would suck for us. But whatever.

"I just felt that, after all the speculation and ink spilled about my destination, that I should do something unexpected" - Harbaugh, while standing next to Mike Holmgren and wearing a Cleveland Browns hat.

michigan paid $4 mil to buyout his contract and paid him $2.5 mil annually. they cannot compete with paying $5-6 million annually. i don't care if they will throw around big money in the college football world, they cannot compete with an NFL coaching salary if an nfl team wants a coach bad enough

like i said, he is going to be the 49ers coach by weeks end or be somewhere else in the NFL by weeks end. there are a lot of michigan hopefuls who wish it weren't so, but that's just how it's going to be.

Michigan would give Harbaugh whatever he wanted. You think SF is desperate for him? People would burn AA down if they didn't get him. Especially after the Rich Rod fiasco. He is exactly the person EVERYBODY in AA wants, and everyone is looking at it as Harbaugh or bust. Theres a feeling the whole program is in jeopardy of losing it's elite status if this coaching hire isn't done right, and their only guy is Harbaugh. Michigan's football program bankrolls the rest of the athletics program. They can't let it falter. Also, Michigan would probably give him a six year contract or so. It would probably add up to more guaranteed money. They would pay him more than 2.5 mil a year that's for sure.

Whether or not Harbaugh would choose Michigan though is up for debate. There are good arguments to be made both ways.

Fantastic fucking game...

I was a little nervous as Stanford has problems against teams with athletes. But, it seemed that VaTech had a great receiver, a mobile quarterback who was way overrrated, and great cornerbacks... I mean Skov is a good linebacker, but he looked like Fairley blowing up the backfield out there...

So, we just run the ball and throw to the tight ends and viola. :D

the only shot that michigan has at getting him is the sentimental value of being an alum and rebuilding an awful program.

if it comes down to money, michigan isn't out spending the 49ers or any other nfl team who truly wants him. i know there are arguments on both sides but it doesn't make any sense for harbaugh to go to michigan but for him being an alumni. we'll see by friday i suppose!

FrenchMovieTheme said:
why would he want to go to michigan?

I never said he would or should go to Michigan.

Surely there is a non-dysfunctional NFL team that would be happy to have him. If he states that he's willing to take the job maybe the Titans would fire Jeff Fisher. Even the Texans are a place where he would be given some time and not fired after one or two sub-par seasons, if Kubiak is any indication...

you can dream all day about harbaugh going to your school. but from what i'm hearing, michigan is offering about $2.5 mil.

Michigan is not my school, and I don't doubt that Michigan would be even worse than the 49ers. The Big 10 is basically a joke. They still think they're relevant based on accomplishments from decades ago. Kinda like the 49ers except not even in the NFL. But those are not the only two options.

Michigan is a far easier job. Recruited properly, they only have 2-4 games a year facing equal or better talent. Having consistent success in the NFL is insanely difficult. Yeah he can come back to college even if he fails in the NFL, but it won't be at Michigan. And some people just like the far superior atmosphere of the college game.

If Harbaugh goes NFL I think it'll be because he wants to prove himself there, not because of the money. But there are plenty of reasons to stay in college.

I would like for the Notre Dame-ification of Michigan to continue, but I think They'll fire RRod soon. Michigan should be able to return to form within a couple seasons.

i guarantee you the NFC west is easier than the big 10

pulling for Arkansas tomorrow/today, will always be a fan of Petrino, and while I love having coach Strong, I will always miss the shock and awe offense of his U of L teams

I don't really see Michigan coming back.

The fact is that Midwest football is in decline. There are too many D1 schools competing for an ever-shrinking pool of talent (and overall population for that matter). The high school programs that feed these colleges have been in decline for many years too.

There are currently 50+ NFL players that come from the MAC. An average of 7 players have been drafted to the NFL each season from the MAC over the past 5 years (10 being the high watermark). That just didn't happen 20 years ago.

Wouldn't an increase in NFL quality players from the MAC indicate an increase in overall talent in the area?

Hard to say, it's an unfalsifiable hyp.

My theory is that these types of players would have gravitated towards Big Ten schools in the past. Players like Chester Taylor, Michael Turner and others notable talents would have played for the Big 10 schools back in the day. The MAC and many of the D-2/3 schools are now viewed as viable avenues to display your talent, instead of someplace you settled for when nothing else was available.

But it's not just the MAC. There are a wealth of second-tier schools that leech talent from the area (teams like Mount Union and other OAC members for one).

For you guys wondering about longest downs and distances earlier: the longest distance I can remember was a 3rd and 57 for Florida in 2000 versus Mississippi State.

On their next possession, the Gators had a first down on their 49. But consecutive snaps from center David Jorgensen sailed over Grossman's head. The plays resulted in a 47-yard loss and a 3rd-and-57.

The longest 4th down I know of was 4th and goal from midfield for Houston in the 2006 Liberty Bowl versus South Carolina.

In the shotgun on third-and-goal at the 8, a bad snap went wide right of Kolb, who tried to chase down the ball and kicked it out of bounds for a penalty. That forced Houston to punt from midfield after having first-and-goal.

Looks like you can scratch Michigan from the Harbaugh race:
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Jim Harbaugh is highly unlikely to accept the Michigan football coaching job if it becomes available, a person with direct knowledge of Harbaugh’s thinking told the Free Press.

Harbaugh plans to decide this week whether he wants to take a job in the NFL. If he stays in college coaching, he has decided he will stay at Stanford, where he has built a potential powerhouse. It would take an extreme change of heart for Harbaugh to end up in Ann Arbor, according to the person, who did not want to be identified because Rich Rodriguez is still U-M’s coach.

I'm glad I only watched about 45min of the game last night. I started watching LOST when VT had a small lead and when I turned back on the game, Stanford had a huge lead. I really thought VT would keep it close, if not win.

Oh, ACC :lol

EDIT: RE: Michigan Discussion:

If tOSU can stay relevant, then so can Michigan. It's just going to be even more difficult to get back to "elite" status for UM than ever before. The B1G is down and, like TA said, the talent pool in the midwest is shrinking. UM really needs a hot HC hire to get recruits excited about the program again

I don't think it's so much that the talent is shrinking, a lot of the top recruits are going down south. And those top recruits in Texas, Georgia, and Florida would rather play in relative warm weather in the South than in the cold Midwest. So they've got their own recruits leaving, and recruits from the areas they really want that are mostly not interested in coming there.

I'm looking forward to a night where FootballGAF is focused on the Hogs. Hopefully my sacrifice of fowl and fish will please the football gods, and the Razorbacks win big tonight.

Dude, its Tuesday night football. I got shows to watch and video games to play, I don't have time for to watch junior high kids that aren't related to me play crappy football.

No doubt, Arkansas is a foul, lame football team, wholly undeserving of a BCS game. They are only there because of the insane whims of Don Miles, and belong in a bottomless pit of SWC teams.

But they have my bow/axe/bagel in the effort to vanquish the skunky buckeyes.
