GAF College Football Pick 'em: Week 1
Picks must be in by Thursday, 7:30pm ET

Might as well join the crowd...

PICKS:
tOSU
Utah
USC
Mizzou
ND
Kentucky
Michigan
UCLA
NW
TCU
LSU
Iowa
BYU
CInn
Boise State by 8pts

My FSU Season Predictions:

Here's the schedule:

Samford
at Oklahoma
BYU
Wake Forest
at Virginia
at Miami-FL
Boston College
at NC State
North Carolina
Clemson
at Maryland
Florida

Guaranteed Loss:
OU
UF

Both teams simply have more talent and have been better coached (for longer) than FSU. I just hope FSU can be competitve in both games (esp. the UF game).

Possible Loss:
Miami
Clemson
BC
BYU
UNC

I see FSU going 8-4 this season, which would be an improvement. The defense was horrid, HORRID last season and no amount of new coaches/schemes/training is going to turn it into a competent unit in 1 offseason. The offense will once again carry the team....until Ponder gets hurt again. :(

oh and....

Just got an email from the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl (genius name there, guys), asking if I want to buy tickets.

Um... what the fuck are you trying to say? Assholes.

That it will be at least another 50 years until you make it to the Rose Bowl again?

Iowa player hit by a truck while on his scooter. I guess they don't teach fundamentals in Iowa. LOWER YOUR SHOULDER!

the kid is fine

I'm glad the kid is fine, but neither moronic Iowa nor Florida have helmet laws, which is absolutely ridiculous. There are thousands of those damned scooters here and I think I've seen 1 girl in a helmet. Not to mention a good third of the motorcycles around campus are driven by helmetless melons.

Gah! How can these states not have helmet laws? I mean, if Alabama is ahead of you in something, you need to reevaluate what you're doing wrong.

Did you hit your head fainting after you heard Oasis broke up?

I'd rather FL not have a helmet laws, than hear more whining about how "The Govt Forcing Me to Wear a damn Seat Belt!!!" every time I have to drive a co-worker or in-law someplace.

Tell them not to look at it that way. Tell them that they have the option not to wear a seatbelt, they just have to pay for the privilege of not doing so if one of the government's representatives finds out that they have chosen to exercise that privilege.

And if it's your car, tell them it's not the government making them, it's you.

DAMNNNNNN, Nebraska's schedule for next couple years is RIDICULOUS.

Sept. 10 Fresno State at Nebraska
Sept. 17 Washington at Nebraska
Sept. 24 Nebraska at Wyoming
Oct. 1 Nebraska at Wisconsin
Oct. 8 Ohio State at Nebraska
Oct. 22 Nebraska at Minnesota
Oct. 29 Michigan State at Nebraska
Nov. 5 Northwestern at Nebraska
Nov. 12 Nebraska at Penn State
Nov. 19 Nebraska at Michigan
Nov. 26 Iowa at Nebraska

Not one super-cupcake and really only Wyoming and Northwestern at this point should be considered "easy" games.

10-3 is the absolute bare minimum by the end of the ACC title game. Mark it down!

Feldman has us beating UF too for what it's worth. I don't fear them nearly as much without Strong at the helm of that D. We were a handful of godawful defensive plays away from winning at least 3 more games last year -- Stoops will have us back in the top 50 on D and we'll remain in the top 20-25 or so on offense. I have 100% faith that this team is going to be fucking great and I can't wait to wipe the smirk off people's faces.

Best OLine in the country -- hands down.
Best QB duo in the country -- hands down.
Incredibly deep stable of RBs.
Talented but somewhat spotty WRs will be picked up by the rest of the offense.
Defensive front that has put on 20+ pounds of muscle across the board.
Linebacking corps that is otherworldly.
One of the best secondary coaches in the country and a new scheme will help remove the deep play ball.
Best special teams coach in the country with the soon to be most feared return duo.

Get ready to be amazed.

The N schools will grow a rivalry since Northwestern does play Nebraska for the next few years.

Should be fun! Welcome to the Big 10. :D

B10 protip: careful with Northwestern, too. They're a lot closer to the Michigan States of the world these days than they are the Wyomings. Look no further than that bowl game against Auburn last year.

Here's the split, according to Katz:

• Michigan, Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan State, Northwestern and Minnesota.

• Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Purdue, Indiana and Illinois.

Terrible alignment.

Big Ten East: Michigan, MSU, OSU, Indiana, Purdue, Penn State
Big Ten West: Illinois, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska

No rivalries removed. Final games write themselves:
East: MSU vs. PSU, Purdue vs. Indiana, Michigan vs. OSU
West: Illinois vs. Northwestern, Iowa vs. Nebraska, Minnesota vs. Wisconsin

Tada. From a football competition standpoint, Michigan/OSU/Penn States in the East, Iowa/Nebraska/Wisconsin in the West would be the "power houses". The Big Ten is just trying to assume that Michigan can turn things around and they would play OSU for the Big Ten Championship. Just really stupid.

I've mentioned this before, but just wanted to say it again. And I'm apparently very late to the discussion. :lol

Haha, nice. This reminds me of my college days. I remember some guy doing this when I marched for GT back around 2000. This dude showed up to gameday dressed in a band uniform, but no one knew who the hell he was. We're pretty sure he just wanted to get in to the game for free. No one saw him after we got into the stadium. :lol :lol

The kickoff gets closer!

So, which games are you guys gonna be watching tonight?

I'll be starting off with a little bit of the Demon Deacons vs the Blue Hose, because hey, first kickoff. Then Southern Miss - SCe, because it's the only thing remotely competitive that's available on ESPN 360. And close out with USC - Hawaii, because it's there.

Pretty shitty opening day, but what can you do?

No Pitt @ Utah? Or are you constrained by network availability.

Best thing about BYU being independent next year: no more relegation to obscure networks most people can't access/didn't know existed.

I'll be watching the Utah and the USC games, as well as flipping to the pre-season Cardinals and Redskins game to see Max Hall and John Beck play.

Mostly I'm just happy college football is back. Greatest spectator sport on the planet!

Fucking Thursday games. I always have class on Fridays because I can't stand the length of the classes that meet twice a week.

Regardless, I'm bout an hour away from some booze and women, then football....Gotta love it.

Wonder if they are still pissed about the 2000 Alamo Bowl. :P

I'm ready!! I hope you're right.

I have not paid a lot of attention during the off season, and I am a bit worried with Fisher taking over and the terrible defense we had last year. But I'm hopeful that with Ponder at the helm we can just outscore our opponents.

I was really hoping to make it to a game this year, but I don't think it'll be possible at this point. Do you go to any games?

God damn morons at UNC making me pick LSU when 1 month ago it would have been UNC in a landslide.
