I'm about due for my third nervous breakdown/crisis this year so I'm right on time!

Being an engineering student can be rough. Our classes are fast, furious, and in large supply. As a chemical engineering student, I have at least one stage a semester where I become horribly depressed, anxious, and on the verge of a mental health crisis. Thank you, finals!

I have class up until the day before Thanksgiving (tomorrow, I have a computer software exam that I feel royally fucked for. The professor is new, the class is very difficult, and no one has any idea what's going on. Thanks engineering).

Then next Monday starts my week from hell (this isn't even our finals week, though, it's just our last week of class before final exams).

Monday:
-Unit Operations final exam
-Physical Chemistry homework due
Tuesday:
-Plant Design Economics final project presentation
-Plant Design Economics homework due
Wednesday:
-Mass Transfer homework due
Thursday:
-Mass Transfer exam
-Plant Design Economics final project due
Friday:
-Physical Chemistry Exam
-Quantitative Chemical Analysis final project due

Even if I start studying and working on these assignments straight after my exam tomorrow, I'll be lucky if I get most of it done.

A mass transfer homework assignment takes about 5 hours to complete. A plant design economics homework assignment takes about 15-20 hours to complete. A physical chemistry homework assignment is another 5 hours. The project will take another 10 hours to complete, the quant analysis project will take about 4 hours and none of that even includes studying for a final and two other exams.

I don't think I'll be able to visit my family this year, or at least if I do, I won't get to spend any time with them. There's simply no time
let alone time to wash my towels ;]
! And I'm bitter about it because my grandmother is very old and getting sick and I'm homesick and tired of not seeing my family for months at a time only to come home and be too busy for them because fucking chemical engineering is my slavemaster. It continually robs me of fun, nutrition, quality time with friends and family, health, joy, everything it can possibly take from me until I get my diploma and reap the rewards of its previous parasitism on my brain.
meanwhile, my "leadership major" roommate hasn't gone to class in weeks, turns in 3 page papers for "finals" a month before classes end, and has nothing to do for the rest of the semester >_>

So I'm posting this to let any of you know that if your week sucks, if your finals suck, you're not alone. I hope I'm not alone. And we can make it to the end together!

How does your finals week look?
I know some of you don't even have finals. -_-

I've got:

  • 6-page paper due Dec. 1
  • 12-page paper due Dec. 15
  • Two exams on Dec. 10-15
  • Two 2-page papers
  • A 5-minute short film, due Dec. 15
  • A 30-minute original musical, due Dec. 15

Hopefully I can knock out the six-page paper before Thanksgiving, and get a good start on the long one.

my last group of finals for ever. one the 9th, one the 16th, and two online papers i need to half ass to get at least a d in order to pass.

I'M ALMOST DONE!

That sounds like a damn nightmare, man. I'm sorry.

At this point, I've just got some tests and a group project. The last paper of the semester (period, for all classes) is being written right now. I know it's gonna be a damn nightmare next semester, so I'm gonna enjoy this while it lasts.

My finals arent till the 2nd week of December, why so early?

Also...I'm a Graphic Designer...so we don't really have "exams"

Good luck brother.

Same, as a music major. I have an exam tomorrow, but other than that not much. I have one playing test this week as well. Had one last week as well.

what's a leadership major?

My university has something called "university studies" where you can create a hodgepodge major that's really like a combination of 3 minors in one (like specialize in art history, biology and english or something like that).

"Leadership studies" is some concentration of university studies where your main concentration is, obviously, leadership classes and then your two other concentrations can be classes of whatever you want, basically. His major assignment for one class this semester was going to an animal shelter with classmates and volunteering for the day and writing a reflection paper (2 pages) about what it was like or something and how leadership translates to that. Everyone get's A's.

I think he's just doing it because it's easy.

like I said....next week is my last week of class so right after that is the second week of December (when my finals actually start)....I have a final next week though, and finals for me is really more like a 3-week slog of projects and exams.

Have a P-Chem test on statistical mechanics and a physics lab final next Monday. Then a comprehensive final in P Chem.

Inorganic Chemistry, the professor was the one who procrastinated and dumped a semester paper, and semester lab report due next tuesday and finals week respectively (in addition to the comprehensive final, of course).

Physics has just a final left, comprehensive but I've got this.

...and then a shit ton of prep/security for the standardized ACS test we give to the Intro chem kids.

Just one more semester of this, and then on to the grinder that is grad school :)

Ugh, mine's on statistical mechanics too.

First semester not having any essays to write. It feels beautiful. :')

My most difficult class is Calc III. Mostly because we still have a lot of material to cover. We've only taken one exam out of three so far. After Thanksgiving break we'll take Exam. Then Exam 3, and like a day or two after, we'll take the final.

I was just told by a medical student (2nd year) who graduated from my program that our final exams are harder than med school exams.

I'm not a happy camper.

As a graduate student can I join in? :p Only taking a pair of classes (both 800 level/Ph.D. student classes), but they're kidna doozies

Advanced Organic Chemistry: 3 hour final at 6:30am in a little more that a week away, not during finals week. Bummer. Was supposed to proctor a undergrad organic final the night prior but I'll probably get out if it cause the instructor's pretty cool like that. Still gonna be pretty brutal

Problems in Analytical Chemistry: This is during finals week in basically 3 weeks, but it'll be rough too.

Pile on top of that hours of research, teaching undergrad organic lab, and big presentation during research group. First semester of grad school has been insane, but I'm slowly warming up.

That's quite strange, then again the system is different here.

On topic, i was lucky enough that the classes i had this quarter were all passable without a final if i had a good enough average. I'm still waiting on some of the results, but at least i avoided math econ final. I was not looking forward to sitting 4.5hs+ for that one.

Yeah, this is my first year of college and I'm winding down to finals, getting all of my last few projects done including a 15 page paper I just finished. I was at the college for 13 hours today :(.

I also work full time and I find I'm really burning out. Considering skipping my two classes tomorrow to catch up on some sleep/relax. I don't know if this is a good idea, can anyone give me some input? Is getting some rest and lowering my stress level worth it? I have As in all my classes and have only missed 2 this semester.

Strategic skipping is absolutely worth it. Just don't make it a habit, obviously.

Took me 3 years to learn that hard lesson. :(

Just finished a 40 hour program predicting resistance on a hull.

Have two reports due next week, one to predict longitudinal strength.

two weeks, three finals.

We all gonna make it, bro.

For my finals I have to:

- Draw some comic pages
- Scan some already-finished animal walk cycles and clean them up
- Make a nonsensical short film about a superhero
- Take easy Journalism Ethics/Biology tests

art students have it made yo

Statistics, Pre-Calc and World literature for me. Shit Scressful Bruh everyone in my two math classes is failing due to the fucked up grading scales. I hope i pass

2 programming projects, a MAPLE lab for my math class and 4 finals... :(

reminds me of my last semester: Database programming final project and final, computer graphics project and final, theory of computation final, senior project and presenting, german final, history of philosophy final paper.

how the fuck did i mange to get through all that.

How do you mean? Skipping became a habit or you didn't give yourself time to decompress?

This. I was the type of student who never, ever skipped class. Sometimes, the prof/instructor is so bad that you're better off on your own (rare, but happens).

Other times, you're so tired that you're not going to retain anything meaningful. And end up more tired anyway because you stayed for class.

-------------

When an important midterm is coming up or I feel under the weather, I'll skip a class or 2 I know won't affect me too much. Those important courses where I can't skip, I won't skip.

Perhaps during an entire semester with 5 courses, I won't go to class once or twice.

Oooh nice to know I'm not alone in my semi-annual finals anxiety attack! This semester I'm not really worried about my finals as much as I am for my final projects due next week, two of which are group projects..

The first one is supposed to be a big research project complete with a focus group and 15 page paper (single spaced) and is due next Thursday.. and we haven't even done the focus group yet. I'm extremely disappointed in my groupmates because someone else was in charge of getting the focus group together and they kept saying "oh we're almost ready to have it" up until this week when they said "oh it's too late now, we can just fake it". The thought of that terrifies me since we have to include a transcription of the entire thing and I doubt we could make it convincing. I can't do the focus group myself because I am a commuter and don't really know people who can sit through one for me for an hour or so which sucks because I just want it over with so we can work on the actual writing part. We also have to do a 10 minute presentation and one of the groupmembers said they didn't want to help with that already (English is her second language in her defense so it doesn't bother me too much).

And then I have two more group projects for another class, one is a 5 page case study (not really a problem) due monday, and the other is like an applied business problem that we have to solve with little to no instruction from the professor due the 12th of December. That seems like a lot of time but my group has never fully met or worked on anything together once since we've been grouped together.

Lastly, I have a 10 page paper due in another class that requires me to think of some unique idea or invention which is hard for me since I'm not really creative. I'm less worried about this though just because I don't have to deal with being in a group for it.. It's due on the 4th of December as well as a small presentation about it.

Then after those projects I get to take my 3 finals and another essay as a final for my classes, and then it'll be the end of my second to last semester of undergrad thank God. But I'm going to have a very busy thanksgiving weekend before then :(

anyone know where i can get my hands on the Amarna Letters? i really only need the ones that were addressed to Amenhotep IV

...thats not a request i ever thought id make on GAF

Ooo! Ooo! I want to freak out too!

Database Administration hw due tomorrow (building a database from scratch, small scale, but time consuming)

Finance hw due Wednesday, two more assignments on Sunday, and a project on Wednesday.

Data Communications hw due Thursday, Info Security hw due Friday.

Finance exam on Monday, then the final next SATURDAY at
7:30 IN THE GODDAMN MORNING
.

Database Administration semester project due Tuesday (Building a large scale database from scratch, complete with printouts, documentation, and a CD with the database burned on it).

InfoSec final next Wednesday.

DataComm final next Thursday.

Database Administration final the Tuesday after.

Fun times ahead :D
Help :(

Exams aren't for another week and a half here at Queens but Final projects sure as hell are..
Have multiple essays, presentations, screenings, and a full on lecture to give a talk in before I can start studying for exams.
Tucking in for an all night editing session with some Tim Hortons Timbits and a Double Double.

Edit:
anyone know where i can get my hands on the Amarna Letters? i really only need the ones that were addressed to Amenhotep IV

I love this

2 more assignments to finish
Then exams on the 10,11,12
Need to do well because my job offer is conditional on acceptance to a post-grad program which my marks depend on.

So much stress :(

You know? I miss taking tests, I though that I would enjoy self study, but with tests and assignments there was a clear goal and an a parameter to measure your progress. With self study and research, I'm constantly worried that I'm missing the mark, going off tangent, locking myself into impossible (or too difficult) problems, and there's almost none who can solve my questions. :S

I have
3 analytical chemistry take home tests
Analytical chemistry lit review paper
Analytical chem lab paper
10 page short stories final paper
Short stories reflections notebook
2 calc 2 exams
All in the next 3 weeks. Hold me gaf.

Currently 35* page report due Wednesday with a 25 minute presentation.

Next Monday I have to hand in a 25* page report with a 30 second tv spot and a example of my print campaign.

Next Wednesday 5 page paper due plus I have to include a fake kickstarter with a 4 minute video. Also have a 5 minute presentation based on the 25 page report I handed in monday and a final.

And this is all before the real finals begin.

*including references and appendix

I don't have finals but my PhD exams are next week. I'm a musicologist so I have a couple hours of listening on Wednesday and then two eight hour days of writing. Then I have a two hour oral defense where committee asks me about my answers and my dissertation proposal. Then I get to grade my students' final exams.

1 class this semester as I'm working full time at moment

My docket:

Advance VLSI Testing

1x final
1x 5-7 page paper with 20 sources about the state of the analog fault model

I've got a about 2 weeks until finals, but I've got a semester-long project due in about a week that is not nearly done enough.

I remember how ecstatic I was when I finished my very last final a little less than a year ago. It was one of the best feelings I ever had. Seems like it was so long ago. Good luck.

I'm almost done with my Associates Degree. It has taken me 6 1/2 frickin years on and off but I've finally gotten my act together and I'm three weeks away from being done with junior college. On the plus side I only need three semesters to get my bachelor's degree thanks to all of my credits so I'm ready to get it done.

Same here.

Just finished my computer simulation exam yesterday... What horseshit. He asked us to simulate reaction kinetics, which we don't know yet because we haven't taken our reaction kinetics course yet, and he's new so he has no idea what he's doing.

There goes 33 points for the test.

All I've got this semester is:

Multivariable Calculus Exam
Geology Exam
Intro to Mining Engineering Exam

and a CAD project due next Thursday.

Statistics, Pre-Calc and World literature for me. Shit Scressful Bruh everyone in my two math classes is failing due to the fucked up grading scales. I hope i pass

Taking two math classes at the same time is asking for pain. You really have to be smart to do both at the same time or have a lot of time on your hands (aka no job).
