Combine a GBA Micro + PSP and you get?

for any owner what do you do about a case. i need to find something, maybe like one of those cloth cases just something to protect it a little but wont add much bulk/weight.

Shit Genny support really sucks. Oh well.

the worst is that the speed hack won't even fix it like it would the SNES one. The firmware and emulators can always be updated, so a fix may come down the road.

All I want is a handheld that will let me play NES games with great emulation. Meaning no slowdown or audio issues. Someone tell me what to buy.

pretty much anything mentioned in this thread, even a DS Lite w/flash card, can do that.

Seems like a pretty major issue. Ouch. Between that and the double d-pad, I think I'll cross it off my list.

So the moral of this story is that for many programs, the tearing issue won''t even be noticeable. For instances where it is noticeable, it can be corrected in software. In those cases where the software fix is used, there will be some performance loss, but not a lot. It sucks that this issue exists at all, but unless you''re really picky, it shouldn''t be a deal breaker.

I guess it's not THAT bad, but I'll wait to see if they will fix it in a future hardware revision.

Sorry for bumping this again, but it looks like the Pandora devs like this little machine too:

We have spoken to them and they don''t seem like the usual Chinese PMP clone fly-by-night sort of guys.

They want to promote the A320, it''s their only product like this, they want us to use the SDK and want to help with improving the system and opening things up.

This is the first time I''ve ever found a Chinese company who actually seem to understand what we want to use their system for.

We are going to do things like check their CE/FCC certificate and spend some time testing the system over the next week or so then make a decision. It''s looking good though.

Also, embrace open systems - they will only make things better overall, more users, more programs, more ports, more recognition - Don''t start niche console wars. Leave the open console wars for when we have a majority market share!

We have agreed a deal with dingoo now and have ordered a larger batch - I''m going to open every unit and test it to get an idea of the QC on these.

I think we will have to follow a GP32/2X routine and test each one for a while, but I see good things for the future of this little machine.

We also have to make sure nothing in the firmware is copyrighted.

If the GP2X community starts getting interested and actively developing for this little device, the quality of emulation will no doubt improve significantly. Will be interesting to see if they get SNES to fullspeed.

Oh wow nice find Lafazar. Genny and SNES support are the only things holding me back on this one. The form factor is exactly what I want.

Yeah, I'd definitely buy one if the community got behind it.

Some more detailed impressions:

Got mine today. I figure I'll add my impressions.

Physical build quality is excellent, one of the best handhelds I've used thus far. The buttons sort of feel like Altoids. This is not necessarily a bad thing. Yes, imagine pressing Altoids as buttons and you'll get a general idea for the feel. The buttons do not feel mushy at all either. Another plus.

Sound quality is pretty decent as well, better in comparison to a few audio players I've tried.

Emulators:
GBA: Best of the set so far, still has hiccups on certain games, such as Mario Golf. Metroid Zero Mission works great though.

Neo Geo: Runs at about 80% - 95% speed depending on the game.

CPS1/CPS2: Tolerable, but like the rest, could definitely use improvement.

NES: It runs great. Are you really surprised? Castlevania III hiccups though.

SNES/Genesis: Hahahahahahaha.

Nothing that hasn't already been said.

A few minor quirks I've noticed.
The Y button problem, yeah, it's in pretty much all the emulators. I've remapped to X and A in the meantime.

One that hasn't been posted though, and maybe it's just happening with me. Unless you unmount it using 'safely remove hardware' it will not fully unmount, leaving the device in a 'USB Mode' state until you hard reset the unit using the little reset hole. Pain in the ass. Even with the safe method above, it likes to hang at times. Definitely needs to be addressed.

Sorry for the formatting or run-ons. Quick and dirty post.

Quick Clarify: There are two methods I know of off the top of my head to unmounting USB devices. One is 'safely remove hardware' the other is to right click said drive and go to 'unmount / eject' or whatever. I usually use the method from my computer. This is what causes the device to hang.

The device needs time to mature. The hardware is excellent, but the various quirks the device has make it unfit to be a gift for the non gadget enthusiast.

That said...the gba-gamegear method probably isnt a bad one.

Id love to see this device grow...most of the faults it has are software based and it will shine if it develops a good community.

The right buttons on the Wiz are separate buttons, they just have the shape of a d-pad.

That's ridiculous. :lol

I have one. Duck Tales 2 wont work on it :(

It has TV out too:

Thanks to EvilDragon, who was able to convince GPH at the last moment:

It's really unfortunate, but while they make interesting hardware, the Koreans do not understand at all what is needed in a gaming device until it is pointed out to them. This lack of understanding is what prompted the gp32x people to start the Pandora project in the first place.

The company making this Dingoo seems to understand, though, so hooray to them.

This thing looks awesome and the price is right. I miss having a nice portable for emulator purposes, I used to use a PSP for it but it's too fragile feeling and i didn't like the d-pad and face buttons.

It's too bad the SNES and Genesis emus aren't too great, hopefully they fix those over time or someone makes a homebrew emu that works better with the thing. That said, I'm still close to pulling the trigger on one of these.

Ok so I bought one, supposedly playing around with the frameskips on the SNES emulator makes it very playable. Genesis still sucks but that's not a big deal for me.

Looking forward to messing around with it.

I wouldn't take anything Korean or Chinese made if someone paid me. Gaming hardware wise.

Better go and look where all the systems you currently own are manufactured. Betcha some are made in China.

I'm not talking about manufactured. I'm talking about designed, created, etc from said countries. Because I know with the former, most of them are put together in China plants.

Oh crap, I didn't realise who I was replying too.

What am I thinking telling someone something I should know they are fully aware of?:lol

I'm pretty sure an original GBA + flashcard can emulate NES games perfectly, therefore, buy a micro + gba flachcard.

I have one as well. Same color. Good choice. ;)

Man... I'm such a pocket whore. I feel a purchase coming for GP2X and Dingo, and maybe the OP product if they fix the emulation issues, but I'd assume that's just weak tech.

Pretty sure it isn't perfect. Last I checked, you either had to squish the screen or have it overshoot the GBA screen to work. Either way it wasn't ideal.
