Comedy series that are not funny

How I Met Your Mother.

Watched one episode with friends way back, the one in the limo when they're looking for which party to go to. Lame as hell. Watched another episode this past Summer on a plane, there was a recurring joke about monkeys. Also lame as hell. Really stupid show IMO.

I've seen probably 100+ episodes of Seinfeld. The stories are usually clever in how they tie together, but I've only laughed hard a few times.

I'm not sure if Regular Show is supposed to be funny, but its not. And most of its episodes have the same premise.

This. These threads are predictable though. Someone always picks the best and calls it the worst in an attempt to legitimize themselves/ establish hipster cred. I understand Seinfeld not being your favorite, but in the world of comedy, there are SOOOOO many series that are far worse than Seinfeld.

And this thread isn't just about them.

All the title says is "Comedy series that are not funny". Ignoring the fact that "funny" is completely subjective, if that's what the topic is, then is stands to reason that the shows that are extremely popular and beloved are going to get their detractors, regardless of quality.

Why do you think so many people said Big Bang Theory, instead of something like Yes Dear? Because it is an extremely pervasive show in the popular culture, much like Seinfeld.

So no, I don't think a majority of the people, myself included, who are hating on Seinfeld are doing so just to get a rise out of someone, or "establish hipster cred", like we can only be validated by disliking what is popular. We are just offering an alternate opinion to what is the norm. If something is popular, you will hear more people who say they dislike than something that is not popular. That's just how it works. Do you seriously think it is impossible for someone to hate Seinfeld?

the majority of disney channel and nickelodeon for the last 10 odd years. recycled plots, stock characters, forced jokes and worst of all - a laugh track or audio cue behind every gag. the rare times the actors/actresses are actually talented it's overshadowed by everything else.

Just going from recent shows, any show that is the same joke/premise over and over and overstays it’s welcome for many seasons:

Two and a Half Men – stopped watching the season before Sheen went coo-coo, but same ole shit- Charlie gets laid, Alan doesn’t, the kid’s an idiot and the housekeeper doesn’t keep house
How I Met Your Mother – should have ended after season 2 or 3, still not sure what the show was about even if it was in the title
Two Broke Girls – Watched the first season couldn’t take it anymore, innuendo city, predictable and just not funny
Mike & Molly – Can’t believe this survived and Rules of Engagement got cancelled, we get it they are fat and in love
Big Bang Theory – I liked it up until last season and then I started to turn on it. Stopped being funny when Penny got a haircut
The Office – After Carrell left really went in the dumper, and the last season before he left wasn’t very good

From the 90s since reruns have popped up:
Friends – my wife like it, tried it several times just not all that funny.

Dan Schneider has always been a stand out in my mind, as far as Nickelodeon is concerned.

Victorious is almost always great, iCarly got pretty good in its last two seasons, Sam and Cat was shortlived but well-written and self aware, and of course Drake and Josh is a classic.

Also, this might be nostalgia talking, but That's So Raven was the shit.

Find it in your greasy hearts to forgive me.

I've been rewatching Seinfeld a bit on TBS lately whenever it pops up, and I hate to say it, but yeah, I don't think it's that great. I'd definitely say that it's interesting, but the humor itself has aged all that well. Friends holds up better. Might have something to do with how Jerry Seinfeld eclipsed the show itself in terms of being part of pop culture.

The whole Family Guy/American Dad section of comedies are pretty abysmal. I've caught a few newer episodes of the Simpsons and they can actually be watchable, but the Family Guy tree is terrible. And I liked Ted and A Million Ways to Die in the West.

Bit Off Topic but is Parks and Rec getting funny at some point? I've watched about 10 episodes and it's just not clicking yet. I know many get better after first season, like New girl and Brooklyn ninenine.

They really were still getting the ropes at that point though. Looking back, you can tell that they didn't even know who most of the characters were. I remember reading that
Andy was actually supposed to be an asshole instead of just lovably ignorant, Tom was supposed to actually be cool instead of just wanting to be cool, they didn't have any plans for Donna or Jerry, etc.
It gets much, much better.

The funniest thing to come out of Kroll Show was the massive amount of hate it got on Comedy Central's FaceBook page every time they posted about it. Seriously, though, I dare you to sit through an episode. If you can make it through the first sketch, you've got me beat.

The first season of Parks & Rec is not good. It is trying too hard to mimic the style of The Office and it doesn't work. It hits its groove mid season 2 I'd say.

Family Guy - AKA: 'Throw a bunch of barely relevant random pop culture references and low brow stuff around and see if any of it is worth a chuckle'. That show should have been canned years ago.

Also, Big Bang Theory didn't start out unfunny - it was decent (but very formulaic) for the first three seasons or so. I only halfheartedly watched it for the next three, and stopped caring since.

I always hated Malcolm in the Middle. It made me question if i should give Breaking Bad a chance when it started, due to Bryan Cranston being in it. Glad i did :)

I enjoyed the majority of it, but towards the end some of the characters became incredibly grating, like Leslie, Ron, and April. Especially Leslie. I think it's still worth sticking with it.

Yes 2 Broke Girls is awful, it comes on once I finish watching Jeopardy and Im like this is so awful. I only chuckle because the laugh track is overused and is often funnier than the content. Also the cast is terrible. The only time I lasted more than five minutes was last week when the hot guy had a wet shirt from the sprinkler moment.

Family Guy and American Dad also. The writing staff for both are terrible.

as far as live-action disney channel is concerned, that's so raven was the peak IMO. it was well written with a talented cast and a great premise. and to point out the elephant in the room, it was a solid "black sitcom" for a channel that was and has been predominantly "white" since.

Mad About You

I have a vague recollection of liking this as a kid so I went back and tried to watch it again last year and it's terrible. The main guy in it is so incredibly annoying and whiny I'm amazed the woman didn't kill him and feed him to the dog.

I recognise its a hugely popular show but I never found South Park funny at all. It just seemed infantile. I don't mean that in a snobbish way, I love Bottom, but the humour seemed so crass and unfunny I just couldn't get my head around it.

Hello Ladies
How to Make It in America
All laugh track shows
All live audience shows with the exceptions of Married with Children and The IT Crowd

Basically all of them. Even just hearing commercials for "funny" TV shows on the radio is painfully unfunny. I can't think of a single funny series I've ever liked, though admittedly I don't watch them since I already know I don't like them.

These threads are always interesting. People toppling over each other proclaiming to have no sense of humor. Look at me looking miserable while everyone is having a great time. I'm so hip and sophisticated you guys, let me rant about it on one of the nerdiest sites around. Wait imma finish by dishing up an incredibly tired and lame BBT meme to further drive home my lack of humor.
Botswana!

(not harping on people who genuinely state the c-tier comedies that are aired somewhere between 4 and 5 pm as filler until the working class gets home)

Ok, I keep pushing on for next season too.

Ill confirm this, we started watching Parks and Rec last week on suggestion, and told point blank the first season was no good. We forced out self through it and found the last episode of it to show a little promise. Mid way through season 2 now and the show is A LOT better. All the characters basically got turned inside out and went in completely different directions than you expect them too after the first season. Its like they just threw out all the character bios and rewrote them 1/4 into season 2, and restarted the show. If it keeps up in this direction I can see it being very good.

aside from Guizman trying to have fun by saying the same word over again this is barely a comedy

it's like a pokerfaced budget Entourage

Well, HBO advertised it as a comedy drama. ;) I just don't get the humour in their shows and Entourage was probably the only HBO comedy show I enjoyed.

People saying Big Bang Theory.. Ok I can understand that one. Seems like it 's not for everyone.

People saying Friends? WHAT THE FUCK

People saying SCRUBS?! WHAT THE FUUUUUUCK?!

My votes are Yes Dear, and anything Tyler Perry.

PEOPLE THINK SCRUBS ISN'T FUNNY??

Imma have to cut some fools

Penny: Hey, Sheldon!
(the audience chuckles)
Sheldon: Oh, hello, Penny!
(the audience begins getting excited, laughing without even knowing they are laughing or what they are laughing at)
Penny: What are you doing?
(nervous giggles are heard from all around the room)
Sheldon: Playing on a poorly coded Nintendo 64 emulator
(6 people die instantly. A shockwave with the force of 10 Hiroshima bombings erupts from the studio, causing billions of dollars worth of damage. The surviving audience members begin urinating and vomiting on each other, all while laughing uncontrollably from the funniest joke ever told)
