Comic Con: Superman/Batman Movie Confirmed

My complaint with MOS wasn't that he destroyed the city, but that he didn't give a shit about civilians. Not in Metropolis, not in Smallville. If they'd have had him trying to get people to safety, I wouldn't mind it.
Regarding the destruction, my HOPE was that it would be a plot point of MOS2 and bring in Luthor, who goes about trying to turn Superman into a Pariah over what happened. That would have at least had the effect of redeeming the first movie in retrospect.

And granted, something along those lines could definitely still occur... but I'm skeptical that we will get any decent resolution to the end of the first movie if Superman is sharing it with Batman. Like so many others, I really wanted Man of Steel 2 to be what The Dark Knight was to Batman Begins. I don't feel confident we will get that now, however.

Cue Lex Luthor: Man of Steel, with everything other than hope. I'm hesitant to spoil the story, but basically
Lex Luthor brings up the threat of Superman to Bruce Wayne, who he knows to be Batman (due to being a genius, and knowing Bruce Wayne as a business partner). Like the graphic novel, this wouldn't be overt. He gives Batman the substance, and Batman performs his own tests and tries to subdue Superman. Big fight, with Batman using Kryptonite to even the odds, and Batman eventually loses
.

The finale would be a team up, to stop some nefarious plan by Luthor, of course. Then Braniac or Doomsday would be left for 'Man of Steel 3: Is he going to die?'

I can't see this movie happening without Luthor.

I really don't want Luthor knowing who Batman is. But I could see it playing out like that minus Luthor knowing. Batman VS Supes and then the team up.

Avatar's opening wasn't even particularly huge, it just had absolutely unbelievable legs. It was untouchable for months.

James Cameron plays the mainstream audience like a fiddle, it'll make billions again.

That's not the nerd dollar at all.

The nerd dollar is responsible for Scott Pilgrim, and Serenity.

Nerds are like a 30-40mil ceiling.

General audiences like big action movies. Whether they're superheroes, or spies, or science-fiction starfighters. That's not the "nerd" dollar, anymore than "Star Wars" is the "nerd" dollar, or James Bond is the "nerd" dollar.

Nerds are cheap. They certainly can't be counted on to float, by themselves. budgets north of 200 million. And sooner rather than later, those budgets are going to go belly-up, and it might take a few studios with them.

I think we'll definitely see his personality fleshed out more. His interaction with Batman is what got in interested in him in the first place. Superman from the Justice League/World's Finest cartoon is my favorite Supes.

They could handle like they did in the cartoon so they don't waste time with Batman origins (again). In the Superman: The Animated Series (or the Superman/Batman movie), it was assumed that the viewer already knew Batman's backstory.

And for those of you who think it takes an entire movie to set up a reason for Batman being in Metropolis and not getting along with Superman, I show you this scene from the animated movie.

Yes, But Not Warner and Disney. Because Warner and Disney.
My point is that despite that, its going to keep on trucking, some studio's will learn how to budge better. It will not be some type of collapse.

Metropolis was not mostly ash at the end of that fight... There was a huge piece in the center that was clearly decimated, but when they were flying around, there were plenty of sections that were completely untouched.

I'm watching that right now. That entire scene plus Bats tracking Clark are awesome.
 
Huh, it's funny how both The Avengers and Man of Steel both had the bad guy target Earth only because a superhero was there. Loki targeted Earth because he's got a grudge with Thor and Thor spent some time on Earth, Zod targeted Earth because dumbass Jor-El sent the codex here with his baby instead of just destroying it. It's stupid, because what's the point of Superheroes saving people if their existence causes things to go wrong in the first place?

In the first Superman movie, Lex Luthor would have done evil stuff whether or not Superman existed, and Superman stopped most of that evil stuff from happening. Imagine if Lex Luthor decided to nuke California only because he hated Superman?

I know, I was just exaggerating.

Basically,
there's a huge chunk of nothing, destroyed buildings and unstable foundations
, that would need some investment to repair.

2015 - worlds finest

2017 - batman in worlds finest origin movie, prequel to worlds finest

2017 - man of steel sequel

2018 - wonder woman

2019 - justice league
 
You know, thinking more and more about this. I can't say I'm all that excited much.

It's like Spider-Man, I still feel like it's too soon for another Batman. I'd rather a MOS sequel or bring back Nolan/Jonah/Bale back into this universe.

Bleh, I should just be happy that this movie is finally happening, though.

Doesnt sit well with me.

Will be soo cool
Batman will be wary of this Kryptonian claiming to be on earth's side, and decide not to take any chances with super man just in case he goes rogue
so he puts on his krypton gloves, and his mecha suit salvaged from zod's army
and bams superman in the face
then a real enemy pops up, and the two unite

Spider-Man 2 also wins. Yeah, Doc Ock exists only because Spider-Man saved his life, but that's forgiven because Spider-Man was kinda busy also stopping New York from blowing up.

Theyre going to be rebooting Batman anyway. How do we even know Batman even existed during the events of MOS?

Exactly.

This whole discussion has made me realize that in Spider-Man movies, the only people who are in danger are Spidey, people close to him, and people he saves. Anyone who dies is either a villain or someone Peter couldn't get to in time.

Spider-Man > Superman and The Avengers.
 
I wasn't a fan of Nolan's Batman movies because they were so dialogue-driven, and to me, most of the dialogue felt unnatural and corny. I also don't think he's the best director of action. Snyder is more visual and incredible at filming action! Man of Steel had my jaw drop during its action sequences, and that never happens to me anymore since I've become desensitized to action scenes over the years. It was like a live-action cartoon! I'm stoked to finally see that with Batman--jaw-dropping action scenes. I haven't seen that in a Batman film yet. The closest thing I got to that was the trailer for Arkham Origins.

After the plot being the main critique of Man of Steel, I have faith that Goyer will spend more time on this script. Even so, Man of Steel's script isn't nearly as bad as people claim. My main critique would be that all the story telling was done in the first two acts, and the third was strictly all action scenes. Then again, that's what I also loved about it as well.

I can't find a reason to complain just yet. I'm too excited to finally see a World's Finest film. I've been waiting for this since the 90s!

edit- nm poster addressed what he meant, but I'm sure there are people that want Nolan, Goyer and Snyder dead smh

How would they write that in for what made him put the suit on at X age.
Im not really familiar with Batman origin stories and how flexible they have been that would allow it to account for MoS timeline.

I wonder if they will even make this sequential chronologically to MoS like how Marvel has intertwined their movies or will it just be standalone.
