Oh man. It's like he was just flipping through the built-in fonts in Final Cut and said, "Eh, good enough."
I mean, I guess I have to give it some credit for being strongly thematic but maintaining pretty decent readability. But it's not like JC couldn't have found some room in the budget to get an entirely new typeface commissioned for the movie if he wanted to.
When it comes to a general purpose typeface, I like Calibri for on-screen use. It's modern, easy to read, and scales well. Verdana is pretty good, too.
For long-form printed word, I rather like Georgia. It just feels nice and solid.

If I'm writing a large document its Times New Roman
If I'm doing any kind of design work its Helvetica until I decide on something different further on.
