Yup, at Community-Con the writers basically confirmed Sony wouldn't let them have any outside shots, they could only have a limited amount of extras in certain scenes, and all around they weren't allowed to do a lot of stuff.
Kinda feels like a web series now.

I don't mind it not being about community college, but I agree that this episode didn't feel good. I wasn't laughing.
Got to finally watch it (cable cut out after the first few minutes). Really enjoyed it. It was cool seeing Gilbert again.
Is it just me, or is Pierce's house a redecorated Greendale set? It doesn't feel like a house at all (maybe that's the point?) and it looked cheap as hell. Sitcom cheap (as explained by Mariolee regarding the budget).

This week definitely felt less forced. There is still something missing, but it was a step up from last weeks.
I actually thought this one felt more forced than the first episode. Like all the punchlines were really off. I didn't really laugh at all, and anytime a joke was setup, it felt forced and cheesy.
I dunno. This is a bummer.
Yeah, they couldn't even put proper doorknobs on. Sucks their budget got slashed.
I will say though, I really liked the ending. The emotional pay off stuff was great. I guess my issue is, I would have rather the episode played it more straight if it was going to be more serious. Like "Mixology Certification".
To me, this epsiode felt like it was stuck in the transition from being a concept episode (the whole haunted house) with forced jokes, and then being more grounded in the character/themes.
Honestly, my biggest issue was just the dialogue. The dialogue felt really off to me.

Everything with Community is the redecorated Greendale set. The Season 3 DVD covered a lot, and it was kinda fun to see what was redecorated from what (as in, most of it was the biology set; the bigger pieces, like the carnival was actually the cafeteria)

Good episode. I like how they can make Pierce focuses episodes with almost no Pierce.

I figured. I guess what I meant was, it looked blatantly like Greendale, rather than having more effort to cover it up. I didn't even realize they lacked doorknobs, lol.
Britta and Troy just seem... too dumb now. This was already happening, to an extent, in season 3, and it's getting to be really distracting. I really miss Britta's random political outbursts. I also have no idea where they're going with Annie; none of the meta stuff she said regarding horror movie cliches and reference humor felt right.
I guess it's a testament to how much I enjoyed the previous seasons if I'm this bothered by the characters in a comedy feeling off.

Yea I agree. Just hope it gets better. The beginning episodes have usually bean the weaker ones to me.
I dunno, sometimes I ask myself why I love this show so much, even when it has disappointing episodes. Then I watched the Six Seasons and a Movie documentary, and what Harmon said at the end really stood out to me. "Big Bang Theory has no art show, and even if it did, the art would be shittier." lol
Reminds me of how Stargate Atlantis used the parts of the Atlantis set for pretty much everything.
The first season? I feel like they've amped up the wacky hijinks from later seasons to being the only thing left.
It's a thing all sitcoms do after a while. The character traits get cranked up to 11 until there's not even a person left.
Sure feels accelerated though =\

I can't tell what show is trying harder to be the new Community, Community or Go On.
They really should've toned everything down and gone back to the season one style. That's what I was expecting and kind of looking forward to from the new showrunners. The writers are great and everything but these big wacky episodes don't feel right without Harmon's involvement. Everything seems a little off.

Britta being the prime example. I see nothing of straight man Britta from season 1.

Didn't hate it. Didn't like it. Meh. I hate how cheap the sets look/are/ Felt like it was the same exact place where the video game episode took place.
Laughed a lot twice: Troy in the secret swing room, and Troy freaking out over breaking the remote. Last week and this week I'm finding Abed to be unlikeable and almost unbearable. I used to care about him, but now...meh.

I really did not enjoy this episode, this show has lost its timing and heart and the characters have become empty parodies of who they where.
I may be being a bit harsh, i'll re-watch it, but from these two episodes this show has completely lost its identity.

Yes. They've even talked about it in the commentary for some of the season 1 episodes.
Yeah, because it wasn't as funny. He was still pretty ignorant back then too, he's just opened up. I mean, I bet if you look at the last four years of your life from college you'd find yourself being a slightly different person as well.

I think he meant that considering Troy was a star athlete in high school, it's a little unbelievable that he's so completely oblivious to sex.

Troy isn't stupid or ignorant. He's naive. It occasionally comes across as stupid because half of the way he's learned about the world has been through Abed. He's also a devout Jehovah's Witness. So while he obviously knows about sex itself but he's not well versed in the subject at all.
You guys have to remember that none of these characters are as shallow as the archetypes they're based around. Troy was never just a dumb jock. Annie was never just a crazy overachiever. Shirley was never just a nice motherly type. Pierce was never just an old racist. Jeff was never just a shallow self-serving a-hole (though he's probably the closest to his archetype). Abed was never just socially awkward. Britta was never just a worldly conscious activist. They all have more depth than that and a lot of them have legitimate reasons for their character flaws.
Also, I find it odd that people think that Troy and Britta are worse together when I get the distinct impression that they're rubbing off on each other in very positive ways. Troys innocence and naivete is showing Britta a relationship that isn't based around Sex. He's also showing her how to have very clean fun. And yes, her character has always pursued Sex just as much as Jeff's character as shown by the secret hook up montage. Britta's showing Troy that while Abed's view of the world is fun, there's much more to the world than that and he doesn't have to structure his life around Abed's eccentricities.
That's what I'm taking away so far. Maybe I'll be proved utterly wrong as the season goes on. We'll see.
