Compare and Contrast Splinter Cell series with Metal Gear Solid series.

All games are trial and error techincaly :P .... just depends how good you are at the game for how many trials you need ;)

This is not true. In MGS if you get seen you can throw a chaff grenade to stop enemies from calling for backup, grab a soldier use him as a shield as you kill his friends and run and hide in a hollow log until it all clears over. In SC you're just screwed if you get seen. The game often just says, "you lose" and you have to start over. MGS is better because you have options if you mess up. It's technically still trial and error, but in MGS you get to keep playing, unlike SC.

HAY GUYS I NEVER PLAYED SC:CT BUT IM GOING TO COMMENT ON IT
Please stop posting in this thread. You have never played SC:CT. Your opinion will be disregarded from now on

MGS for story and boss battles

SC for overall gameplay

MGS gets me hyped cause I want to see what happens to Snake and co. SC gets me hyped cause I love sneaking around, stalking enemies. Out of the two I like play SC more.

yeah...you dont just lose in SC:CT when you get seen... and really, like i said, if your good you wont get scene anyway ...thats the whole point of it ....

If you DO get seen in SC you can grab him and kill his friends like in MGS, you could toss a smoke 'nade and quickly hide again, you could run up and stab they guy that saw you, and hide him before his friends get here .... really the differances arent that much between MGS and SC in this area....except for the fact that SC controls better.

go play SC:CT before you comment on how things are.... im not compairing SC:CT to MGS1...im compairing it to 3. newest games, for the most update experiance ... i mean hell, MGS1 "stealth" was hiding behind a box, in a vent, or inside a cardboard box...

Edit: I absolutly loved MGS1 ...so dont get the wrong idea ;) ....2 and 3 were great games, i just wanted the controlls and view to evolve with the series.

I wish Hitman looked this good:

Given the general look of next gen games so far, you'll probably get it or something close to it.

anyone have a good link to a direct feed MGS4 trailer? I need to refresh my memory...

Next time we see it the trailer should be from its completed engine. Fully destructable environments. :) Plus maybe we'll get a look at what that OOOOO system is.

I am no fan of either.

I dislike MGS' controls.
I dislike Splinter Cell's boring scenarios (though their online coop has done much to help this.)

Gameplay wise, however, I think Splinter Cell trumps MGS by quite a bit. MGS does better with regards to story development and cutscenes.

Now, I only played till the CIA level in the first SC, but I much more prefer the gameplay in MGS. I especially like how even unarmed you're a threat, and combat is just as fun armed as well as unarmed.

I'll take Thief I & II please. Thief makes me really feel like I'm sneaking around, and I think that the first person perspective has a lot to do with it...and the sound. I love Thief's simple but highly effective sound design. Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay is the closest to it and does some things better fo sho.

While MGS is more interesting, scenario-wise, I prefer SC's control/camera and overall feel. It could use more movie-like personality, though...just not the fucking movies.

While I think the story in SC is pretty much nonexistent, i have to ask this one question to MGS fans that completely boggles my mind.

How in the hell can yall people watch MGS cutscenes w/o laughing your asses off at how retarded the dialogue is and how rediculous the acting is. It's worse than mexican soap operas. It's literally the only game that gives me that weird uncomfortable feeling while i watch it, cause it's sooo goofy and just plain embarrasing but you know it's trying so hard to be taken seriously.

Is the story and cutscenes suppose to just be a big joke or are we suppose to take the game seriously? I've often wondered that.

The letter Q sums up my feelings about this post.

My thoughts...

Splinter Cell >> Metal Gear Solid:
- camera
- control
- gameplay
- fun factor
- graphics
- music
- realism
- multiplayer

Metal Gear Solid >> Splinter Cell:
- presentation
- character design
- animations
- story
- voice acting
- depth
- extras
- comedy

I've always prefered the MGS series, for its story, characters and gameplay. I love splintercell too, the gadgets the gameplay and VS mode

I prefer Splinter Cell over MGS. IMO, the game feels better in every area available for comparison. Graphics, Art, Gameplay, Story, overall design. MGS feels very limiting, and it's design comes off as very desperate and unimaginative. UbiSoft seems like they actually put in real effort to make SC feel complete where as Konami just pumps out another MGS game without actually putting effort into making it a *game* that is worthwhile for the end user, MGS just isn't satisfying and I feel it's a major flaw in concept and design.
