I want that rodian droid in the first pic.

Whatever cut that he got from those films....I'm pretty sure it wasn't worth his value. Based on all of these paintings, looks like he's the one who created Star Wars visually.

This guy is one of the greatest concept artists of all time. It blows my mind how perfect his concept art fit the vision of the original trilogy and was so close to what they actually achieved. WOW. RIP

He was instrumental in getting Star Wars made into movie. George used McQuarrie's art portfolio to show to the movie executives when he was pitching Star Wars. The entire look of the original trilogy is based on his art and some of his matte paintings are used in the movies themselves as backgrounds.

I've got a big poster of that Vader vs. Starkiller concept piece hanging over my TV, great stuff. He'll be missed.
And yet the concept artist of Jar Jar continues breathing.
Hey now. The prequels' concept art is amazing, Iain McCaig and Doug Chiang are unbelievable artists. The soul really got sucked out of their work in transition to the screen.

Really sad.

I've got the first edition of The Art of Star Wars (white cover) and Empire and Jedi. Always loved his work, and it was amazing.

A true legend. His work was truly awe-inspiring. I used to love flipping though the Art of Star Wars books and losing myself in his paintings. RIP.

Yep. Lucas created the story, but Ralph gave it it's look and soul. It's similar to the relationship between a comic writer and artist. George was Stan Lee, Ralph was Jack Kirby.

They're great artists, but their work isn't Star Wars. All I'm going to say to try not to derail this thread too much.

RIP

Back when I was still into Star Wars, I was obsessed with his artwork. Even now, it's clear that he was a true visionary and Star Wars wouldn't be half the franchise it is without him giving it such a strong visual identity. He will be sorely missed.

Oh man. :( As a child these movies had such an impact on me and helped shape my love of things sci-fi/fantasy. The man made some amazing art that translated to some of the most iconic visions on film.

Thank you sir, may you RIP.

I actually don't recall seeing the pic of the AT-ATs firing at Luke on his tauntaun before, and holy cow, McQuarrie's tauntauns look way more awesome than what we ended up getting.

Some of the best concept art I've ever seen. It's weird, I just checked out all the art for this movie for the first time about 2 weeks ago and had to look up who made it because I thought it was so good. That was the first time I'd ever heard of him and now he's gone.

RIP

Ralph is dead... :( damn. RIP. Just a brilliant artist, and so important ion so much of what are considered standard Sci-fi design conventions now.
