New news, new thread.

No word if it's AC or N, but it definitely does 5GHz

Woo woo! I'm sure the Neo will as well. That's good to hear.

Wish the wired speeds were faster as well but at least now I can have it on wifi.

What happened to all the leaks on the PS4 slim? Why doesn't digital foundry have one of these? Or ifixit?

For me it's Wired PS4forLife Bro.

Nice, 5GHz always felt way more stable to me.

But unless I see it actually connected with 5GHz, i'm taking this with a grain of salt. The fact that the frequency shows up in the list means little.

It might have 5GHz but that doesn't necessarily mean the connection is any good. All my 2.4GHz devices get good speeds, it's just the PS3 and PS4 that get crap speeds.

The guy from Digital Foundry went to someone's house and watched them power up the PS4 slim, while Sony is actively taking down videos because it hasn't been officially announced yet.

It most likely doesn't mean anything in regards to their store and download speeds which is the unfortunate bit.

Maybe I've just been spoiled by Steam, or most digital storefronts on the PC (even Origin/uPlay are semi-decent compared to the speeds I get on PSN), but if Sony's going to raise the price on their service, for the love of god get some fucking SPEED going.

Pretty good especially for those that can't have a wired connection.

Is 5GHz better than those outlet connector adapters?

It depends on your router and range. 5GHz has a shorter range, but higher speed. If it is an AC 5GHz adapter, and not just an N, it can almost be compared to wired, in the right conditions.

I'm assuming this means it will have better Wifi right?

Fuck... I didn't want to buy one this soon if true.

5Ghz supports higher bandwidth and is less susceptible to interference from other access points broadcasting on 5Ghz. However it is pathetic through walls and therefore has less range than 2.4Ghz.

Router and ps4 have to be in the same room to take advantage of this.

sure, but better wi-fi cant improve PSN itself, so barring a nice announcement on september 7th that they are improving PSN we're still left with a poor service

edit: it might not have 802.11ac though if its super budget oriented

Too bad download speeds via PSN will still be absolute garbage though, and thus not really able to take true advantage of 5Ghz.

Even ethernet speeds are terrible most of the time, compared to what they should be.

I'm not sure releasing a console in 2013 without 5GHz qualifies as "getting everything right" but it's certainly a marked improvement to "inexplicably stupid".

Well, going by that Factory Worker's rumor, the "rumored" PSP-like device is most likely the NX. Assuming people want to believe him. Also means no new Sony handheld.

Is this a good move? I guess it's good for those that can take advantage of it, but for most people it's not.
