All of a sudden it's become a great idea. Funny that.
Well, there's a difference between Wii U games on the go than Vita games on the go. They should give the Wii U battery slots, then you won't even need an outlet!

There was doubt over whether the OS could be navigated from boot via the game pad.
.
I believe you are misunderstanding the topic, off-TV play has been confirmed from the get go. What's significant about this news is that you can bring your WiiU with you and play off-TV games, Miiverse, e-shop, netflix, etc. only with access to a plug socket. So (for example), I could bring my WiiU in my book bag to campus and play in between classes at the library.
I made a joke about this before but I bet some third party company could make a killing selling a Wii U backpack that could carry and power the system and controllers.
It would be derpy but almost all third-party accessories are.
Fisher-price stuff is ironic now. There are probably some college dudes who would play with that kind of stuff. On campus? Playing that big ass borderline-fisher price looking game pad on college campus? fuck... actually good on you for not caring about what other people think.

What? It looks like controller with just a screen. Insecure much?

And my Wii overheated less than a month after launch. Each console has shown its issues.
Consoles are not designed to get knocked around in a backpack on a daily basis.
To be fair, after seeing some of everyone's gaming room setups... doesn't surprise me.
My Wii is still alive and kicking. Only two consoles to die on me were my PS2 and PS3.

My college campus has people setting up consoles around pool tables to get games of Marvel and SF. I see people in the library with 3DS and DSs.
It's enormous and looks like a toy, I'm sorry. The black one looks a little better I guess. What? It's a controller with just a screen. Insecure much?
Honestly, the black version doesn't look bad at all.

Looks kind of like a tablet with buttons. Pretty classy.

I know right, a girl may see you from across the room with that thing!

Oh damnnnn. That shit that makes your soul burn slowI know right, a girl may see you from across the room with that thing!
Nice idea! People will do such LAN parties with Black Ops 2 in just few weeks. This is kinda perfect for Wii U LAN parties or just get-togethers. For example let's say Mario Kart U supports 8 player online play, then you can go to one man's house, plug in all the Wii Us and play all day long.

Wait, how was there any doubt about this? I thought I could start my PS3 without it being connected to the TV. Of course, here it is actual useful, so I always assumed it was the case here too.

Like I said, people *already* take their full game consoles with them on trips, as something to play in the hotel at night when there's nothing else to do in an unfamiliar city. They hook them up to the hotel room TV, but sometimes that just doesn't work, this gives them a solution for that
Can you explain the difference to me?Well, there's a difference between Wii U games on the go than Vita games on the go.
Wii u at work comfrimed. Yay
Yeah, not sure how this is news. It was said a while back you could go from bootup to gameplay without the tv, provided the game can be played remotely. I really can't wait to try it out at home, because the demo unit I tried didn't really seem to have the best refresh rate on the controller screen. Almost everyone here has said that wasn't an issue when they tried it, so I'm sure it's just my local unit.
WASH THAT THING, for God's sake!

I wonder how Xenoblade backwards compatibility would look on that tablet. Anybody know?
Confirmed: TV not needed to power any gaming system ever. But seriously, the off tv gaming feature is going to be sweet.
Wait, people mistake ease of travel for on-the-go?
On the go is essentially playing during commute. This isn't.
This thread is heading for stupid. It's like people enjoy ignoring sensible posts.
maybe I can find IWATA White Gloves to play with my GamePad sans finger prints
it looks the best and you don't see the dirt on the tumbsticks like you do one the demo stations at your local gamestop
edit found some :3 http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0009KJ1UQ/?tag=neogaf0e-20
Actually several people have mentioned interest in playing during their commutes.

But electricity is needed to ower on Wii U
I didn't even think this wouldn't work. I mean, I can turn on my PS3/360/Wii without a TV as well...
Some commuter trains have power sockets for people's laptops... I don't know how viable bringing the Wii U is in those situations... but it is POSSIBLE... If you're okay with being heavily judged (I am, who cares about the average riff raff?) you can do it no problem.
In the US it's harder to imagine, but some people have super long commutes of an hour or more each way to work.
