Conker is BACK: Young Conker reveal video

I was one who was clamoring for a triumphant return of Conker. If this is real, then screw everyone who was behind approving this "revival."

How insanely out of touch can MS possibly be? Put it out to pasture while I go pour one out.

have people bombarded Phil's twitter yet?

When it said Young Conker, I just pictured Conker being a bit more like the version of him from Twelve Tales or Pocket Tales. Nothing like the strange creation shown here. Might as well have just made another character.

Especially since the game itself doesn't even seem to actually be a Conker game.

It looks like they just put the character in because he was popular.

Wow, pretty low of Microsoft. Wouldn't be surprised if he's done voicing him forever now.
Hopefully this is some troll shit to throw us way off for the inevitable return of Conker chain sawing the Microsoft logo at E3. They would be fucking stupid not to bring the game back especially with Fox taking that huge leap of chance with Deadpool and it blowing everything out of the water.

Lowkey I'm still pissed that Project Spark's Conker never finished.

i expected nothing and i'm still let down.

This. The re-design is so atrociously abysmal it's actually quite hilarious. My faith with MicroRare is sadly at an all time low.

Like seriously, this is even worse than their destruction of Joanna Dark with her re-design/nationality in Perfect Dark Zero. Absolutely no respect for the history of their IP's!

Someone kill that thing. It is hideous...

This is not the Conker I've been waiting for. I thought Battletoads in KI and Rare Replay was a sign of awesomeness to come + potential Banjo Kazooie collabs but alas.
A steaming pile of shit with a marketing team behind it.

I took your post just as a reference for a lot of others with the same opinion.

Come on now guys, even if it was the "Conker you've been waiting for", it is still just a tech demo only very few will ever get their hands on. You most likely won't even be able to "play" this during E3 or other game conventions. It's a tech demo and they used one of their trademark game characters for it. Was it a clever idea to do so? Maybe not, giving the shit storm here and on youtube, but people condemning MS for using Conker are exagerating.

Fans are hoping for a new Bad fur day, I get that. Others are waiting for a new Crash Bandicoot, Spyro and so on as well. Thing is, the respective marketing departments seem to have come to the conclusion that this kind of games are not what masses want to play these days. Yeah, that sucks, but that doesn't justify this stupid shit storm MS is facing right now.

A new Conker game has so much potential. Seriously. They could do so many parodies of so many new things in pop culture (and even in video games) today.

In the original game, the Spooky chapter was based off of Dracula. Nowadays, if they were to make a sequel, they could make a spooky chapter and base it off of The Walking Dead or something (if they want to keep the chapter based around zombies again).

They also based the War chapter off of Saving Private Ryan in the original. They could maybe make a war chapter again and base it off of COD or something in a new game. I can imagine them making a war chapter be in a first person perspective where Conker would be serving in the squirrel army fighting against the Tediz again. They could parody COD by making there be checkpoints like every 30 seconds or something, and every time your reticle is pointed at a squirrel teammate, it would show their name just like in modern military FPSs. Maybe they could have the same death sequence as in COD as well. I guess it doesn't have to be in first person. They could just keep the third person perspective they had in the original's War chapter, but then it wouldn't really be like COD in terms of gameplay. I don't know if this would be an entirely great idea for a level, but it'd be funny at least. :p

I don't know. I'm sure game developers could come up with some cool ideas for stuff a new Conker game could parody. That was just some dumb example I thought of myself. :p

But no, let's just give him an atrocious redesign and put him in some Hololens tech demo. Yeah. Great use of the character.

Fake edit: Actually, I'm pretty sure Conker's Big Reunion already sort of parodied COD in one sequence. They could maybe expand on the idea and make it better.

Man, I haven't seen this much of a backdown since Konami.

Seriously, the voice actor himself thinks it's shit. That doesn't happen often at all.

That'd be a hilarious troll, I'd applaud them for it. Doubt it tho.

This isn't a stupid shit storm, Microsoft took beloved IP's and handled them wrong in every possible way. And they keep doing it. They deserve what they're getting.

Like the poster above said, what's the market for this? Conker is a niche series with one game, every single fan wants a sequel, and the rest doesn't know who Conker is. It doesn't even look like him, they could have named him Bob the Squirrel and nothing would have changed, this isn't Mario who has a broad appeal. It's just puzzling all around.

I am loving it the reactions. Just saw first few pages.

lmao

This is a fucking tech demo. They used a famous gaming character. That is all.

Except he isn't famous. Now, if it were Mario or Sonic it would have actually made some sense. The only people who know Conker are traditional gamers.

They could have used the Project Spark model for the tech demo though, as Chris Seavor thought was the case. This thing is a bastardized Conker so I get why fans are pissed.

Yo! That is totally the music from Theresia!
Also the holo lens concept just reminds me of the AR stuff Sony and Nintendo dabbled in at the beginning of the vita and 3ds life cycles respectively. I've always wanted to see more experimentation I this area, but they seemingly gutted everything about Conker and gave him cheap mobile style make over.

A character that hasn't got a new game in 15 years after the sequel was cancelled following Microsoft's acquisition of RARE in 2002,releasing a not so great remake of Bad Fur Day on Xbox, expecting fans to build their own Conker game in Project Spark instead of doing it themselves, cancelling Conker's Big Reunion episodic content for Project Spark, and now this bastardization of the original character design of Conker.

So yes fans are mad that Microsoft seemingly has been the whole reason why nothing good has come out of the IP in 15 years.

Character model is bad. The Project Spark one was great, wish they used something in that style. Can't really be mad about it other than that though. It's just something to demonstrate what Hololens can do. It's a pretty cool idea. It could have been any IP, really. The developers were probably just fans of Conker and were able to use it. That being said, I can atleast understand why others might be having negative reactions to this.

And lol at the usual "Rare is dead/Everyone good at Rare left" posts. We're getting a new pirate themed game lead by Gregg Mayles. Anyone that knows the games he has worked on should know that a pirate theme makes sense.

So, if Banjo and Conker are not what people want form Microsoft's perspective, then why use them for stuff like this or that strange audience game with Banjo? Do they think the characters are beloved in a vacuum for looking nice? Or not even that, because they still fuck up the designs additionally. Do they think people like Banjo and Conker for their names, fur colour and voices?

why is everyone salty???
the original conker was a lad who was pretty much the hero of a cutsy jnr.

then after development hell rare decided to release the bad mofo conker and nintendo denied to publish it on n64.

this is how original conker died.

i would have bought both games since rare was an awesome company back in the day...

It's been discussed before, but it wouldn't have the same effect. Conker was a deconstruction of cute mascot games of the time, most of the humor comes from the unexpectation of crude jokes.
Now such mascots barely exist any more, while subversive humor and fourth wall breaking is much more common. Conker was a game of its time, bringing it back only caters to nostalgia.
That's why Deadpool works now by the way, because we've been drowned in superheroes movies, and then comes a hero making fun of them all.

I know it says published by Rare, but first this was planned from the, start, second, it was, as far as I know, still mostly Nintendo's work. Either way you could have bought the game. I did. Of course I would also have bought Twelve Tales and I would not complain about them doing a spitual sequel to TT (even though that one never released), though it wouldn't make much sense, because they could just use Banjo-Kazooie for the same effect.

Not only that, but Conker is a product of Chris Seavor's humour. Passing it onto anyone else, especially an American studio, would not work.

The irony is that most video games and cartoons would follow the Conker formula, using crude jokes as well, though not as successful and good taste.

For a new Conker to work the same subversive way as in the 90s, he'd have to not swear at all.

"Oh heck"

.... You know... when you say "he's a beloved IP" and then proceed to ream him into an eldritch abomination that is nothing like his character, some people might get the wrong idea.

"Worked with Rare"...

..
...

I haven't felt this piss poor about a redesign since spyro for skylanders...

Edit: even if its "just a tech demo" the fact that they redesigned him with Rare into THIS and thought that was okay to even show is alarming beyond words. It raises some major red flags about Rare and Microsoft's understanding of its own IPs and also their design departments (because jesus CHRIST that this is fugly)

Yes, why would they make a new, Bubsy version of Conker when they already have a fully rendered Conker assets from Project Sparks that are graphically decent?
