Connect360 - new app for Mac and 360 connectivity

Glad I didn't register Twonky. TM seems geared towards more towards developers of network appliances, not so much end users.

Jup, MS + Apple = lal
- Office on a Mac: yup, MS managed to crash the BSD kernel
- MSN on a Mac: yup, piece of crap chatprotocol used by everyone...

^^ What the hell does that have to do with anything? Besides, you should be using Adium for your chatting needs.

Hah, it's $10 "for a limited time" while it's in beta.

The iPhoto support is awesome, no more a total mess of folders!

They should release a Windows version with WinAmp support or something. Way better than WM Connect just scanning all your folders willynilly.

Yeah it's pretty unstable - keeps crashing here. I guess it's going to be 15$ final as with their PSP sync application. It looks awesome and the dock icon is the ring-of-light and acts when there is 360 related activity. I've been unable to set it up so far, maybe firewall issues.

Yep it's old but looks like a great little app.

And for those who can't get it working I'm sure Nullriver will get it fully working in due course.

Registered it and now it works like a charm!

And that is all there is to this app.

Has anyone got the beta demo going without registering? I wan't to try it out before I buy it on my imac....its running on osx 10.28 and I want to know if its going to work. (I'm at work, not at home, or I would give it a shot....)

The system requirements are 10.3.9, so I dunno if your 10.2.8 machine will do it. Time to upgrade. ;) That said, I got the beta demo running without registering just fine (though I'm on 10.4.x).

Just a warning - reading the page, it says that it only supports MP3 audio files, so you can't stream AAC, which I know a lot of Mac users are now encoding to. AAC can still be read off of an iPod, however.

MS needs to decide if they are going to stick with the "not invented here" idea for the 360, or actually make it company agnostic like they love to say it is.

The 360 only streams mp3 files, so it's no loss. The AAC support the 360 has is only with the iPod over USB, not over the network.

If it starts streaming video, it'll be sweet! :)

Ask Microsoft to enable the 360 to stream it first.

It crashes when i try to view a slideshow of all my albums, but other than that it seems stable.

I may well be an idiot, but with something like this, how do you connect the mac to the 360? I'd love to try this with my iBook, but my 360 is not connected to my router wirelessly. therefore, being a network genius, I'm thinking that I couldn't have the iBook connected to stream audio if the Xbox is online. Would/could I use a USB cable or something? Per the web site, apparently not.

The 360 and the Mac need to be on the same network. Either they're both connected to a hub/router, or you connect the 360 to the Mac with a crossover cable.

You could connect the 360 to the Mac via crossover and share the internet connection on the Mac.

Or just be like everyone else and plug the damn thing into a router.

Umm... the 360 will stream video, but at the moment, it has to come from a Windows Media PC. It's not an issue with the 360, it's an issue with DRM and video content in general.

You wanted it to stream video, and I said that's not going to happen unless Microsoft allows it. Streaming video is possible over UPnP (the technology Media Connect and 360Connect use), but MS wont allow that. UPnP is the only way you're going to stream anything to your Xbox with 3rd party software. The streaming video in the Media Center Extender is completely seperated from the UPnP streaming and doesn't really have anything to do with this thread.

Yep, audio and photos only for now. I wonder if they are going to support different video formats any time soon. As for the application - it works fine as a trial version, only the number of songs and photos streamed over is limited to 100 each.

They just updated it to version 1.0, and now it does stream AAC as well as a bunch of other audio and image formats. Very handy indeed. If this is gonna be anything like PSPWare has been, the updates will come fairly quickly.

loving it so far, totally worth the $10. is anyone else having a bit of a slow reaction time though? maybe it's just because i have a big library (8000+ songs), but it can take up to 10 seconds to start a song when i select it.

Finally got around to trying this, and my iBook found the 360 without a hitch. Unfortunately, I can't get the 360 to find the iBook, even after opening both of the ports in my router's firewall that the connect 360 readme file references (well, I put both port numbers and types under 'trigger start port,' 'trigger end port,' and 'public port,' whatever those are). Then restarted the 360 and connect 360, still with no luck. :( Any suggestions? Should my computer show up under 'Computers' or 'Portable devices'?

I couldnt get it to work either so after reading some posts on some other boards this is what I did and now my 360 has found my mp3s...

Go to system preferences >sharing

I kept my firewall on and under ports I created two new port openings for my 360.

Under port name I choose "other" then under port number/range I typed in 9335 and under description I put 360.

I did that one more time and typed in the number 1900 and used 3602 as my 2nd description name.

I then checked itunes sharing and those two ports and now my 360 is finding my computer :\

I have no idea how or why this works,I just followed steps I saw and it worked.Hope somehow this works for you cause I was having the same problem as you.

Thanks for trying. That fix wasn't applicable to me, as my firewall is in my router (my OSX firewall is turned off). However, I did manage to get it to work by downloading v1.0 of Connect360 (I had been trying the beta version before). Works great now; I'll probably pay the 10 bucks.

Another question. For iPhoto, the software finds my albums (correctly named), but doesn't share any of the actual photos. The 360 of course can't see them either then.

It says something about iLife iPhoto, which must have the lastest version of iPhoto and maybe thats why photos are not being displayed, but i'm not 100% sure.

I can see my albums too,but again like you,no photos show :\ Are you using iLife? I'm not so im thinking thats why my photos dont show.

They have a more up to date version up now. I couldn't get it to work before but now it is working smooth sailing no crashes.

Really enjoy it for the price.

Tried it today. Downloaded it, ran it, turned on my X360, and my iMac G5 found the X360 right away. Went over to the Xbox, told it to look for "Windows" computers, it found the iMac right away, and that was that. Photos & music both worked just fine. Registered :)

Wow, new version supports transcoding of files (AAC to MP3, PNG GIF etc to JPG). It's officially quite a bit better than Windows Media Connect. Wonder how much of a strain transcoding puts on the server computer.

Ug... Downloaded the 1.0 version and it wont see my 360 on the network... I have my G4 on an airport base, which is plugged into my router. The 360 is plugged directly to the router as well and still no luck.

I'm guesing it's something to do with the airport being "inbetween" my G4 and router??

My head hurts.

Gunstar: Just launch Terminal app on your Mac and type: ping "IP Address"
Replace "IP Address" with the known IP address of your X360.

Well I can't get mine to be seen either. My X360 is downstairs in the basement and connected via the X360 wireless adapter. I put in the port forwarding the two ports 1900 and 9335 in my Netgear router but still it's not seeing the X360. Any other tips? Are most of you guys using your X360 wired to the router?

I have a similar setup with an iMac on a router and my 360 to an Airport Express then the router. Nullriver told me that the Mac and the 360 had to be on the same network (looking at the same IP addy). Once I switched on my iMac's airport and connected it to my Express, it saw it right away. Of course, I'd much rather leave my Mac wired, but what're ya gonna do.

Thanks guys - pinging it doesnt seem to help, and after reading SuperPac's post, I guess I guessed right. Problem is I need my laptop on the wireless, and I'm not laying out the $$$ to put my 360 on the wireless either... so I guess I'm shit out of luck.

Hopefully Nullriver will figure out a solution...

2.0 is up. such a fantastic program, and they've had weekly updates. it's now a preference pane that just sits in the background, and it's much faster than ever. so sweet.
