Conservatives happier than liberals. This makes me sad :(

I agree and have been guilty of much of your complaints. For me it's mostly laziness to be honest rather than genuine vitriol. It's what ronito was doing in this very thread (and for many of his posts recently for that matter). I leave the serious back and forth discussions for people like yourself, guileless, APF, mandark, Hitokage, Jay Dubya, Stoney etc.

After all, who doesn't enjoy a good read?

The point was liberal used to stand for people who didn't automatically assume that everyone successful is a liar and a cheat. That everyone of different belief was still worht something Liberal used to mean individuality

But all I've seen in this thread is liberal pessimism and bitterness(which is 2 things a liberal shouldn't have.Those used to be almost exclusively conservative). Everyone besides them is not just wrong, oh no but they are anti-science, anti-charity, they lack human compassion and are homophobic. Everyone.

When the hell did Liberal thinking change this much? Before a liberal stood for helping people achieve. Now it stands for taking care of people becuase everyone besides them is out to get you.

I'm glad Barack Obama is running, becuase i really have no idea what to think of you people if he wasn't around.

fair enough, and it's not necessarily you I was responding to, it's the legion of people ready to jump into any thread and spend time bashing people (especially if it's a Ron Paul thread) in a manner that I somehow suspect the mods wouldn't tolerate in an Obama thread.

The truth is, outside of the internet, conservatives and liberals are normal people, mostly decent, and basically the same asides from their political leanings. We all like money, we all like ice cream, and we all like hot naked women. As someone said earlier, conservatives are not some ogrish brutes, they are regular fucking people like anyone else.

Maybe you have a different definition of success, but I have no problem believing that people from any socioeconomic position can improve their status throughout the course of their lives, and they can do it with hard work and dedication. That's not to say there are any guarantees, but it can certainly be done.

How is the opposite not just as true? There is so much spin on this forum and even a casual political-thread-reader like me knows it. People here honestly believe they know best, that what they believe is the self-evident truth, etc. and when the world (well, the USA) does differently than what they expect they have to spin it to even comprehend it (usually, like this thread shows, they make sweeping generalizations about conservatives). It's really pathetic to read when you step away from it like I try to do. People here seem so convinved that they are right about everything and all their beliefs rarely pan out.

I think this is overly simplified, but it's mostly true, especially the bolded part. Granted a middle class white individual is going to be better positioned to make wise decisions than an inner-city minority raised in a crime-ridden area, but it's still possible.

Also, I know plenty of extremely hard-working individuals that refuse to take on more responsibility. I have a family friend who works in a factory making very little, but enough to get by. He works extremely hard, and has been offered higher positions, but he doesn't take them because it would require him to work a night shift. This obviously isn't a wise decision from a career perspective, it's obviously limiting his potential.
 
Again, I'm a liberal but I find it genuinely upsetting that people like speculawyer actually believe the stuff they're posting. It makes me wonder just how limited and sheltered their life experiences have been. Having grown up with conservative Christians and seeing the myriad of opinions and attitudes and social status of these people makes it plainly obvious that speculawyer is speculating out his ass.

Correct again. If the majority of humans are so fucking stupid and naive as they are well, yeah, I kind of dislike most of them. At least I leave in the real world and make the right decisions based on reality, I'm not some moron who votes agaist his own personal gain or an ignoramus who doesn't know how the world works and what the fuck happens around him while he lives happy in his fantasy world the media and society built for him. If you want to call me a misanthropist with superiority complex go ahead it's not that far from the truth. On the other hand I have all the reasons to be one.

edit: a page or so back you said that conservative politicians are making the rich richer and the poor poorer. It's always been my understanding that rural, middle-class people tend to vote conservative because they want lower taxes and less government involvement in *whatever*. Isn't this correct?

I really don't mean this as a dig, I'm just genuinly curious. You say you think the majority of humans are naive and ignorant, and that you live in reality. What makes you think you're not the naive, ignorant individual in this equation? What makes you think you know what's best for Joe Redneck? What exactly have you accomplished that makes you project such an aura of smugness?

When you lower taxes the rich always benefit since these taxes are used mainly to help the ones who don't have enough money for private education health care and other social care programs (yes middle class needs these too) and most of them are funded by the taxes of the rich. Of course the matter is too complicated for those morons to understand, they just understand the "tax cuts" and the fairy tale they've been fed for years and then they wonder why their money are flying off their pockets. Guess what morons when you have to pay for school, college for your kid, health care in you don't have an HMO or because your HMO screwed you when you have to help financially a member of your family because he/she is unemployed etc etc you're paying triple these tax cuts. Not to mention the deficit created by the tax cuts their children and grandchildren are going to pay.

It's like that McCain and Hilary summer gas tax cut bullshit stunt to imprees the idiots. The money for the tax cut are indirectly getting out of their pockets but they're just to stupid to realize it.

Because I've read enough about economy, social structure etc and have proof from socialistic Scandinavian countries whose life quality is much much better compared to countries like USA to know that I'm right. Plus my country is a great place to study idiots since it's full of them and I know for a fact how oblivious, ignorant and detached from reality they are. Their lives revolve around their tiny little world where sex, empty relationships their little community and a few friends are everything that they know. Everything else is being fed to them by the media and society which they receive gladly without questions or doubts.

There is a wealth of scientific, verifiable, and reproducible evidence that Joe Redneck is far too ignorant to possibly have an informed opinion on politics and world affairs. 88% of Americans 18-24 years old could not find Afghanistan on a map in 2006 according to a National Geographic study. Call GAF elitist, but I bet every single person posting in this thread could accomplish that task.
