Considering a Vita - which model should I get?

Doesn't really matter, either is fine.

I do prefer the 2000 myself though. Battery is better, system is a bit lighter and feels a bit more comfortable. Don't see the LCD screen as a downgrade either, even though I have no problems at all with the issues some people have with the OLED screen tech either.

I picked up 3 OLED versions in case they stop making them...I haven't ruled out v2 though.

Same here, but I also picked up a 2000 and ever since I've been using that one exclusively.

I'd say the Slim. I haven't tried it out myself but it seems to be an improvement in most areas, such as the battery life, shoulder buttons, PS/Start/Select buttons, less annoying rear touchpad and some sort of generic USB port for charging and transfering.
Yeah it has an LCD screen, but I personally don't think that the OLED screen is as good as people make it out to be, and the OLED has some annoying permanent vertical lines that's apparent almost all the time, and ink-ish marks when the screen is black.

The Slim is by far the superior product. The battery is better, the speakers are louder and the LED indicators are much improved. It's also a significantly more pleasant device to hold due to the reduced size and smaller rear touchpad (which is an absolute godsend if you use remote play). I even prefer the screen since it's sharper, has a more natural colour reproduction and doesn't have the mura effect.

2000 model.
Holding the slim version feels so good.
Can't believe that I stuck with my OLED for months while I can experience true handheld gaming on the slim earlier.

I have a slim and really enjoy it. I'd ignore the OLED hyperbole. The LED screen is vivid and does the job well. The slim also charges via USB while the 1000 takes the proprietary cable. It's light, and the battery life is excellent. The extra 1GB means nothing since you'll want a bigger memory card anyway, and it will only recognize the inserted one.

If those qualities sound good to you, go with the newer model. Don't forget that memory cards are still expensive, so figure what games you'll be playing with it to consider its final and true cost to you.

Own both and bought 2 64GB memory cards for each. Thought I wasn't going to like the PS vita 2000 downgraded screen but its definitely lighter and a big improvement over the OLED. Buy a glass protector for the 2000 as it seems that its not the same material as the PS 1000 touch screen

If you can get a 1000 model for cheap, go with that. Otherwise go with the 2000.

I had the white 1000 model that I loved over a year plus, but now that I have the 2000, I'm not going back.

The 2000 model is lighter, thinner, easier to hold, has better buttons, uses micro USB instead of a proprietary cable, and has better battery life. The improvements to the 2000 outweigh dat OLED of the 1000.

I recently purchased a Vita last week when I finally managed to track down one at a Walmart. Target and Best Buy were out of stock for some reason.

I got the Borderlands 2 bundle version since Wifi was good enough for me and the 8 GB card is good enough for now until I get a bigger one.

Having held it in my hands I have to say I am digging it and it feels nice in my hands. Plus the LCD screen looked quite nice to me when I was playing "Stick It To The Man" streamed from my PS4.

I would say go with the newer version since the screen still looks great, longer battery life, micro-usb for recharge, and can get a 8 GB card to use temporarily or as a back up if you can find that bundle.

OLED. I have both and bought the OLED because I wasn't happy with the slim's screen. I think the Slim is better to hold due to the weight and form factor, but if you buy a cheap grip (I would have anyway for whatever model) the OLED is infinitely easier and more comfy to hold. Grips can be just a few bucks on Amazon.

The battery isn't as good as the Slim, but that winds up being the only pro of the slim vs OLED when coupled with a grip. The 1GB on board the Slim is useless once you put in a memory card.

That's just my 2 cents. I love the OLED Vita.

Definitely the OLED.

I tried a friend's LCD console and the screen quality was so horrible that I could never see myself getting one personally.

If I had to replace both of my Vitas, I would do it with 1000 models.

Japan is manufacturing more red and blue 1k models so you might be able to import for around $200 if you can't find new ones locally.

OLED is nice to have, but for now, you might want to get the cheaper one.

And from the amount of money that you saved, use it to get a 64GB memory card.

The OLED screen is incredibly mediocre and unless your entire experience of a device is based around the display's black levels, get a 2000.

Do you like the software library?

Because if you do, who cares? Which ever one you buy, you'll love (trust me) and you'll have nothing to compare it to.

I've got an OLED model but of I was buying one now, I'd go LCD no question... That doesn't mean I'll be selling my og vita to exchange with a new one though.

Having owned both, I personally feel the slim model is much, much nicer. Looks nicer, feels nicer. Colours are definitely more muted, but I don't find myself noticing it much.

If price is a priority though, I'd recommend going first gen - sure, it's clunkier and heavier, but you'll save a decent sum of money and still get the enjoyment. Win/win.

I have both and use them equally. I say go for the Slim. There are 'downgrades,' yes, but the upgrades more than make up for them.

2K series is a better imo.

You get better battery life, feels better in the hands, and is slimmer/lighter than the 1K series.

Price is a kinda weird right now since the 2K series outside of Japan is rare, and until they announce another bundle, the borderlands bundle is what you have to deal with.

Importing has it's pluses like better color verity but your going to spend a little more for it too, but honestly I think it's worth it if your in the market in getting a vita RIGHT NOW. With that said, you can play the "wait and see" game if Sony is going to make another bundle for the 2K, or re-stock on the borderlands bundle, but it's speculation at this point.

Ideally you don't want to spend more than $200 on the handled outside of some bundle or import, so if you can find it used for $160, then go for it.

Go for the one that best it's your price range.

My only comment on the matter would be to buy new... We need to keep the sales train high so support is justified. A 2nd hand purchase won't get that +1.

Are you going to use it without a grip? Then the 2k. If you're going to use it in a grip, then I don't see any advantage to the 2k. We have both at home. The OLED in the Datel Assist Grip is as comfy as a dual shock pad. The 2K on it's own is nicer to hold than the OLED, but it's still not as comfy as with an Assist Grip.

I agree. If you're using the Vita primarily at home or indoors then the 2000's improvements are pretty marginal if you like using a grip.

haven't ever held/seen an og vita. but i'll thrown in there that i've been really happy with this slim. shoulder buttons aint terrible, d-pad and buttons are excellent, thumbs work like they should but might need some grip caps. the frame of it feels nice and comfortable and it is feather light. the screen looks beautiful to me and the battery power is excellent. i've played all day and not even dropped to half bar. i love this lil dude.

I have 3 OLEDs and a Slim and I use the Slim all the time. There is barely a difference in terms of screen and the system overall feels way better. So I'd say Slim.

Only the original has dat oled that everyone is gushing about. I love it, but I have never tried the 2000 hands on

If you care about picture quality you should go with the Slim. OLED Vita has inaccurate color reproduction. I kinda regret that I've bought an OLED Vita.

I own a 1000, but seriously, if you can find one in any model... Get whichever one is available. (They are sold out everywhere around here)

Personally I'd go with the 1000 OLED model but both old and new have their merits.

If you're planning on using remote play for a PS4, after trying both, I thought the OLED looked better but there wasn't that much in it.

The battery life on the slim is probably it's best feature. From only 2-3 hours to around 4-5 on the slim is a vast improvement.

Whatever you choose make sure to buy a grip before playing at all. Without a suitable hand grip you'll find your hands aching/cramping after just a few minutes of play. Oh and make sure to get one with longer handles and the ability to charge while playing.

Vita = life

I would get the slim if I didn't already own an OLED one, the improvement probably outweigh the possible better screen but I would wait for a good bundle.

I am looking into getting vita as well, but I can't find one in stores, did they do a limited run of the new slim model or something?

OLED looks better in terms of colours. The LED one has better battery life and a 1 GB of memory pre-installed.

I have the OLED one and have no regrets with it.

So this thread sparked my curiosity of what the Vita's availability is at retailers.

Sold out everywhere! If you can find one at a decent price, jump on it.
