Consle features announced that did not become reality?

The N64 was supposed to have a modem.

It was called Randnet and it didn't exist.

Sony said that if you were struggling in a game, then a friend - who doesn't own the game - could take over your controller using streaming gameplay.

I'm still hoping for this one to happen. Hopefully if it does re-appear it wont just be on Playstation Now streaming games.
That one will require twitch and ustream to cooperate so who knows if and when we'll ever see it.

lol Sony is geting massacred in this thread.

Honestly deserve it though. They live off dribbling hype and hyperbole. I remember people saying how Home was going to be this massive online hub that was going to make Live look pitiful. Instead it just completely fizzled and got swept under the rug.

They announce so many features and capabilities and half the shit never sees the light of day.

Man I totally forgot about the thing with helping a friend on PS4 and that it predicts what you want to buy.
Same with suspend and Resume..

My memory's a bit fuzzy but wasn't the PS3 supposed to also function as a router?

I remember it was supposed to come with 3 Ethernet ports, 2 hdmi inputs, and six usb ports.

I can't find any mention of the router aspect, but I remember it was mentioned.

For example:

PS4: Suspend/Resume * I really miss this one *
XB1: Every console is a DevKit * This one not because I will developer on PC *

).

Your title implies that it never happened, there around 6-7 years for these features to be added, relax friend. We're only 7 months in the new gen, no one said they would be there on day 1. I don't really miss the suspend resume feature, it's nice on a portable but I don't turn on and off my console so often.

I tried to find in Google but the news back to 2013... after that Sony didn't talked about this feature anymore.
Pretty sure Shuhei Yoshida talked about it fairly recently. Post E3. Also about friends being able to play a part of your game if your stuck.

Whatever that third port is under the GameCube.
Xbox One friends list game sharing.
More console to PC gaming. Only a handful of titles do it.

...
Also what the hell was that 2nd HDMi port on the early PS3 prototype even for?

If I remember correctly it was so you could play a game across multiple screens, I think up to 3. I vaguely remember a screenshot of Gran Turismo 5 Concept or some form apparently demonstrating this aspect.

Xbone's matches are on the cloud, and you can play another game while the match is created.

And for that to work well, it would require another feature that also didn't make it (yet?): Games could resume state even if terminated, of course with greater loading than instant switching from an app.

That HDD/network adapter ended up being awesome for anyone tired of seeing PS2 DVD drives crapping out on them, as it allowed to softmod your PS2 to play all your games from a HDD.

You could softmod anyway with a memory card and a PS1 game, but yeah. HD Loader was just the best.

Technically possible with games that are actually apps.I believe Nutjitsu is the only such game right now, but I presume we'll be seeing more of them in the future (Threes seems to be taking the same approach).

Resident Evil Outbreak and SOCOM II (and three/combined assault?) had HDD support.

Street Fighter Alpha Collection also supported an install to the HDD to improve load times.

I was going to say the Dreamcast ethernet adapter. From what I recall in the day, in the states basically your only option was to import it, and it wasn't supported by anything anyway.

Phantasy Star Online. It was glorious. You may have been able to order it through their website, but I'm not sure.

I seem to recall there being some crazy announcement with the 3DS relating to keeping a DS game in a spare slot, or installed. But I can't find any reference to it.

I remember the PS3 having several HDMI and Ethernet ports, can't remember what the extra ports usage was for but Sony wanted to include it at first.

Xbox One's DRM policy thankfully did not become reality. That's one.

This was one of my biggest :(

The PS3 was going to be a router and a video capture device.

Anyone else remember that the Gameboy Advance was suppose to have "online" functions supported through Cell Phone adapters and/or modems? The thought of being able to play handhelds games online blew my mind back then... even though it never happened. Japan got some of those features with cell phone adapters on the Gameboy Color (nuts to think about something like that back in the late 90's) but us poor Americans never got anything like that.

Had to wait for the DS for that one.

Wait, my old PS3 phat had a HDMI out, why doesn't the one in that picture have one? Did the 20GB model come without HDMI?
Don't forget 4D graphics, 120fps and 2TFLOPS. Crazy times, crazy times.

They added it back to the 20gb before launch, but yeah there was a time when only the 60gb was going to have it

Um it's Conslé OP

But I'd really like MP3 support and that jump into a friend's game feature.

EDIT: Milo with Kinect was actually wildly creepy awesome SI
