Console fps: aim Assist or not

In a competitive shooter, definitely on. Turning it off shows how a gamepad is largely ill-suited for precision functions and you're also gonna be at a big disadvantage to others that have it on. Only very skilled players will be able to make up for that disadvantage and I'm not one of them!

Very much so.
I'm not the best at BF4 but my k/d usually same average 20 kills 20 deaths I die alot because I'm not a camper I just run & gun but I never use aim assist my first taste of the hate for it was CoD4 where you couldn't turn it fully off. To me using aim assist is like TC in a racing game.. Why bother

Console yes, defo on. PC no, never.

The precision of a stick is just not good enough for the average player to be competent. It takes a skilled player to get anywhere with it without aim assist.

Usually turn it off. When BF4 first launched it was really way sensitive. I think they toned it down though, but you basically had to have it on in close quarters.

I would prefer every game had it disabled, if you can't aim you will learn to aim.

I don't mind a bit of aim assist on consoles, it depends on the game really.

I'm new in this console shooter world and I suck, big time. I was thinking "do pros play with aim assist or not?" Or "is this a community divider? Where people that play without 'aim assist' shun those who do".
Please, do tell. As an ex PC shooter player(my gaming PC died and I have no means to replace it ATM) I feel like I should have turned it off (although I suck even more without it).
What about you? (I'm playing BF4 on PS4, for those who are wondering)

If you have access to a PS3/360 try playing Call of Jaruez: Gunslinger an arcadey SP FPS as I found it to be great for improving my aim.

Why do console gamers never address these issues to Sony and Microsoft?

Every console generation, Sony and Microsoft claim they "improved the controller!!", yet they still use the shitty analog sticks that aren't precise enough in tons of games...

The concept of a controller with analog sticks was invented when we didn't have First Person Shooters yet. I don't understand why nobody has ever questioned Sony and Microsoft about this.

I am pretty used to the little assist in the killzone games, so when i played destiny, shooting was really easy. I dunno overall, it does very game to game, but i tend to shut it off or down.

must be out of your mind if you think I'm gonna play an online shooter and turn aim assist off while everyone else has it on

I prefer none as I hate pretty much anything thats "automatic" even more so when its messing with my aim.

I'd be curious to see a controller user that with no aim assist aim precisely and quickly. I'm sure it's possible but I personally can't pull it off. I think the last multiplayer console shooter I played online was Halo 4 and aim assist was definitely enabled.

Eh, in COD it gets me killed more often than it helps.
specially when you are shooting at someone and another person moves across and the assist pulls you away.

Also when someone is very laggy it can actually push your aim away from the guy.

Aren't there always some level of aim assist in console FPS games? I mean, in contrast ot the PC version.

They usually feature larger hitboxes and some level of assist, even when on low/off. It would be frustrating if it didn't.

I go without whenever possible. Any PC FPS I play on my couch I use a gamepad with no aim assist and do fine. Sure, you're always at a disadvantage of not being able to wip your aim around as fast as with a mouse or be as pixel accurate with your shots but I accept that when couch FPSing. Any console version, or console exclusive, fps with the option I turn it off. I just don't like the idea of a game doing any of the work for me. I turn it off in third person shooters too, couldn't imagine playing with it on with MGS4, PW, MGS: GZ. I want to succeed and frag with my own skill.

I really don't like it. Whenever I play Halo (or Destiny) I run into enemies 'hijacking' my crosshairs them because the aim is so sticky. A guy will run around a corner, directly into my crosshairs, and drag my view with him for a while until I yank it back again. Plus I remember this one time playing Uncharted 2 multiplayer where a guy had run right next to a gas tank and I was trying to wrench my reticle off the guy to shoot the tank but the damn auto-aim wouldn't let me.

But then, I'm sure there are plenty of games with less invasive auto-aim that I've never even noticed at work.

They turned it off completely in Shadowfall. I love it, not to mention when it's off for everyone I feel it helps weed out those who can't play well without it.

Off, but I don't play much multiplayer FPS on console.
With On, I always feel that my shot don't go where I want I to go.

Funny enough I'm actually playing through TLoU right now on Easy but with Aim Assist off. I hate when they snap the reticule to the center body mass and you are constantly fighting the AI trying to get the reticule onto someone's head quickly.
