Convincing someone to be a PC gamer.

Of course, I explained many of the advantages that the PC provides over consoles. Anti-aliasing, 60FPS, mods, cheaper games etc.

Honestly, you sound really annoying. If he's lost interest in console games, I doubt it's got anything to do with the aliasing, framerate or lack of mods. And there's plenty of bargains available on console games at retail.

Aside from many more indie games (of which the best are likely to be ported to PS4 anyway) and improved visuals, there's little difference in PC gaming compared to console gaming that is going to make him suddenly think he's been missing out. Let him enjoy his mobile games in peace.

There is the deepest of ironies in someone on a message board trying to convince a stranger that they shouldn't be convincing people of things because "life is too short."

It is only ironic because you don't know the meaning of irony. In any case, i am not trying to convince him or her, at the end of the day OP is going to do whatever he/she wants.

He ask for our input and I gave mine. But like I said, you don't know the meaning of irony, so it doesnt really matter now does it.

There are four main reasons why someone would want to play games on PC: convenience, graphics, controls and unique games. If your friend has lost interest in playing console games, I don't think that the first three will apply to him. So show him the kinds of games that are home only to PC. Namely, these will be strategy, management, flight sim and crpg games. If these don't interest him, then your friend probably isn't cut out for PC gaming.

Dude sounds like he's burned out on games in-general. If the freedom of choice that the PC platform doesn't interest him, then it doesn't interest him. No point to proselytize like PC gaming is some fucking religion. Go ahead and show him your highest fidelity shit. If that doesn't register, the interest just might not be there.

Of course I'm going to leave him alone if he isn't interested. But as of now, he is, hence his agreement to come over and see what I have to offer. If he doesn't think that PC gaming is worth his time and money, then that's that. The end.

But this thread makes it sound like I put a gun to his head and threatened him to come over to my house. That just isn't the case and I'm tired of repeating it.

What is it about PC gaming that you think will entice him? That's what I'm wondering.

More powerful hardware doesn't seem like a good reason.

Don't just show him a fps. People that aren't use to using a keyboard and mouse for gaming will have a hard time. It might put him off.

Show him a game he's played before on console. Turn up the graphics and let him see the difference. Also show him indie games. Mention prices.

Then show him genres he's never played.

If all else fails

Graphics must mean a lot to someone who left console gaming for mobile.

I think people just think your crazy for thinking that PC might be a solution to get someone back into gaming that switched from console to mobile.

All the power to you though.

Was his response "Fiiiiiiine, I'll come over and look at your PC games. Gosh."? :P

I bet a dollar he pulls out his phone at least once while visiting. lol

This reminds me of that OT thread where OP was talking about playing Nintendo games in front of some girl or something.

Anyways, I thought you were going to say something different in regards to the difficulty involved in convincing someone to switch to PC. What people don't understand is that the Wii U + PC combo is the best, and if you try and say something like, "All you're doing is playing multiplatform titles on a gimped platform." They're just going to call you an elitist and move on, even though that in itself, whether they know it or not, is basically telling you that you're on the superior platform.

It's difficult to tell someone why they should do something that will be better for them in the long run without telling them the positives about it.

Absolutely hate wherever this PC elitist hatred came from. Probably someone who never owned Legos as a kid and accidentally his entire computer while trying to build it.

Edit: I moved over to PC gaming because I was tired of having to repeatedly send Microsoft my Xbox 360 for repairs and buying entire replacement consoles rather than just parts to replace broken parts, all my IRL friends stopped playing on Xbox Live, and because Bungie started to suck.

Ended up replacing my 60hz monitor with a 144hz monitor recently when I went over to a friend's house and saw Wildstar at a glorious 120fps and needed it.

I've been avoiding visiting my friend who has a G-sync monitor.

Put Ryse on Ultra settings, 4k downsample, and hand him a 360 controller.

Then go the exact opposite and let him play an 8bit style Indie game, lol.

Hit both ends of the spectrum.

Hardware dependant, of course.

I personally couldn't care less what people choose.

It comes from people like you lol

There's nothing wrong with mobile games.

What else is there besides price, more games, and in different genres?

Mouse and keyboard being superior for aiming/moving in first person, but that takes time to get comfortable with.

That's great and all, but that doesn't mean mobile gamers care about 60fps and graphical capabilities.

Perhaps he is fine with mobile and doesn't feel like spending hundreds on a PC.

The advantage of PC gaming is technical, you're still playing the same game. I can't possibly imagine what could convince someone to give up that sort of games on console unless he only plays the annual blockbuster, but you're not going to bring him back by introducing the same kind of games he plays.

It's pretty telling if he chooses to be a mobile phone gamer over console/pc.

Well PC gaming is better than console gaming and much better than mobile gaming. You'd be doing him a huge favor. Good luck OP.

It comes from people like you lol

There's nothing wrong with mobile games.
I didn't attack mobile games. I was attacking console gamers who play nothing but multiplatform titles.

I don't see a problem with playing mobile games. But are these types of things on the same level? Like, do people like OP's friend really sit in their home and play mobile games as a hobby? If I'm mobile gaming, it's because I'm not at home.

I've been waiting years for Majora's Mask on the 3DS, but I'll be damned if I'm going to be playing it in my house while my computer's sitting here.

I don't think his friend is a console gamer. Does it not state right in the OP that he gave up consoles for mobile?
A lot of people are going to make the assumption that OP's friend is a console gamer, because mobile vs PC is never a thing.

It doesn't even make any sense.

Yes they are at the same level. That might make you mad, but games aren't really that amazing. It isn't like mobile is 50 shades low quality smut, and PC is Shakespeare. One isn't clearly far above the other. I have gotten just as much enjoyment out of Puzzle and Dragon as I have from Dota2.

If you can't beat them, join them.

Swallow your pride and get a console!
A PC only gamer chronicling his journey to buy a WiiU and discovering the charm of Nintendo games for the first time, even with shit technical specs and few games to play.

I could see it! It'd be an Eddie Murphy's Living in America type deal.

He went from PS3 to a phone. I seriously doubt he gives a shit about maxed out graphics.

You make it sound like the PS3 had maxed out graphics lol. The PS3 is arguably the worst console from the past 15 years. It was extremely overpriced, the controller was meh and the system/service itself was a mess. The only good thing about it was the Japanese support. And not everyone is into those type of games. Its not surprising at all that a PS3 only owner from last gen would give up on console gaming all together and move to mobile. Especially considering how big mobile has gotten in recent years. Android and IOS didn't even exist when the PS3 first released. Look at them now.

PC is nothing like console gaming or mobile. Its a whole different universe. Its nothing like PS3. Whether or not someone played on a PS3 before in their life should not have any effect on introducing them to PC gaming.

Yeah, but I like playing my games for more than 15 minutes at a time.

You realize you're not in OT right now, right? Like. Over here. We buy our video games.

You included it after my post. Nice stealth edit though.

And no, PC gaming is not much better than mobile.
I don't think I can be in this thread.

I'm going to get myself in trouble.

Edit: I'm just going to go ahead and say that where mobile gaming has something shitty like a f2p SimCity game where the gameplay is you waiting for a timer to go down, PC gaming has the actual game.

Mobile gaming is the platform that managed to take something genius like One Finger Death Punch and turn it into a crappy F2P game with IAPs everywhere.

I think people just think your crazy for thinking that PC might be a solution to get someone back into gaming that switched from console to mobile.

All the power to you though.

I don't think mobile gaming is a 'problem'. I'm only showcasing what PC gaming is like, not to stop him from enjoying his tablet games, which I'm very sure he can keep on playing even if he decides to get a PC.

If he's fallen out of gaming then I'm not sure showing him 60fps, AA etc is going to change anything. "Oooh that looks nice" *goes back to playing Angry Birds* Nor does needing to spend a small fortune to get them running well or having to upgrade it again in a years time when the next big game he wants comes out, to get it running smooth as butter.

He needs to be shown games he's perhaps interested in that could drag him back into gaming. What is he into? Genres he's mainly into? What games have come out in the time that he may have missed that he'd perhaps like? What hidden gems is there he'd like? Are there any games that are better on PC/console than mobile? And that doesn't necessarily mean having to buy a gaming PC to do it either. I mean it's fair enough that you want him to be able to do things you enjoy and therefore talk and perhaps play together, but trying to get him a buy PC just because you think he needs one isn't the right way IMO. In all honesty a console would probably be more suited to him where it's very pick up and play without the need of thinking of upgrading again in a year or 2. But it depends at the end of the day what he likes to play and the easiest way for him to play it. Which right now seems to be mobile.

Cute. I've bought several games on mobile. Some I've even played for more than 15 minutes :0

Okay stay in your state of denial. Idc. It's all about OP.

If it helps you feel better I still play games on Steam. I just don't think games like Dota2 and This War of Mine are any better than some mobile offerings.

Mobile gaming is the platform that managed to take something genius like One Finger Death Punch and turn it into a crappy F2P game with IAPs everywhere.

And Evolve on PC has day 1 DLC.

And PC also has a problem with early access games. Just look at the development hell of games like Starbound. Every platform has terrible business practices. Oh and plenty of games on mobile lack IAP.

I play certain games on PC btw. I'm not saying mobile is better than PC. That'd be asinine. But so is the reverse.

And no, PC gaming is not much better than mobile.

This debate is stupid and where PC gamers get the elitist tags.

Everyone has different tastes, and needs. Claiming "PC is the best" espeically in regards to someone who likely plays 99 cent games on his mobile device is stupid.

Thats like going into a preschool with a bunch of kids playing on there think pads and calling them all idiots and trying to convince them to play on a DS.

"hey grandma, why would you play that stupid talking Tom game on your iPad, PC gaming is way better! "

You have to be pretty stupid to go console only.

Get over yourself.

My computer is a 4 year old MacBook Pro that does everything I need, like managing my huge photo library and doing graphic design and web editing, perfectly well. I don't feel like maintaining a separate PC just for gaming.

That said, I have a nice little Steam collection. Mostly indies.

Dude since I called him out for being a troll and stopped talking to him. He took the time to pull you in. Don't get banned for his garbage.

The OP needs to find out why his friend left behind gaming on a stationary device hooked to his TV for a device that he can carry in his pocket while he leaves his home. Is it just for mobility? Is it because he's not much into gaming anymore, but will play the occasional F2P mobile game when he's bored? This needs to be known because as of now it sounds unrealistic that his friend would be so amazed by cranking up PC graphics when his phone is good enough to quit console gaming. I mean, PS4 is a graphical leap over PS3 so why doesn't he care about that?

*Raises hand*

Seriously, chilling in bed or my recliner and playing on my iPad for an hour or two is great. A lot of games with enough depth and content to play for a few hours, or stuff like Device 6 that you want to focus and be immersed. You don't play games like that on the bus

Mobile gaming has a lot of more hardcore offerings than you might think. Not even counting the ports like FTL, XCOM, Papers Please, KOTOR, etc

You already basically revealed that you pirate? Why else would you use it as a positive point to join PC gaming?

I don't even PC gaming, strictly PS4.

And like I've said- joking, I was poking at PC gaming. I didn't think it was that serious so I back down before things go south. Reassure I won't do that again.

Awwwww yeah. Device 6 was awesome. And FTL on ipad was great. Perfect for playing while waiting for classes to start.

I think I prefer Paper's Please on PC though. But that's probably because I got used to that control scheme since I played it when it was back in alpha/beta.

Mobile gaming is the platform that managed to take something genius like One Finger Death Punch and turn it into a crappy F2P game with IAPs everywhere.
Don't remind me. I had been asking for months, hell I was the person who started the Steam discussion asking for a mobile version. It's the kind of game that's perfect for the platform, and they had to fuck it up like that

But that doesn't diminish the myriad of other great ports like FTL, Baldur's Gate, King of Dragon Pass, and others or the countless exclusive games that make IOS a viable platform. And it's only going to get better, since we're getting stuff like Prison Architect and Rex Rocket and Sid Meier's Starships, and there has been talk of iPad versions of Sunless Sea and Darkest Dungeon

OP do you really want your friend interact to with you like some of the people in this thread interact with each other ?

Just leave him be man

It doesn't matter what his friend did in the past or why he did it. PC gaming is different. I don't know why you're bringing up PS3 or graphics. OP said his friend never gave PC a fair shot. In other words his friend knows nothing about PC gaming.

Mobile/PS3 =/= PC gaming. Service is different, games are different. Everything is different. I don't know why you're bringing them up. What does any of that have to do with introducing someone to PC gaming?
