corgi or shiba

Corgi-St. Bernard mix:

Saw one of these last weekend and I can't stop thinking about it.

Corgies without a doubt.
Shibas are just meme dogs, and the meme isn't relevant anymore there's no reason to own one ever.

current tally:

corgi: 63

shiba: 40

votes thrown away write-ins: 19

#s slightly off because it's hard to tell with some posts

wasn't actually considering a dog (would like one but don't have the stamina/time to care for it, plus am likely moving out of state within the next two years)

Though you can always spring for the super cool Swedish Vallhund, which is like the most amazing mix of Corgi and Northern Dog you can think of.

Correct answer is Swedish Valhund

i like the look of this breed

I really don't understand where this Shiba's are monster dogs/hyper/untrainable thing is coming from. My Shiba is incredibly obedient. Also, they might be a meme, but that doesn't mean they aren't stellar companions IRL.

I grew up with one of these. Lovely dogs.

The dogs at your local shelter

This is the real answer though. Forget designer breeds and go and see the lovely mutts in need of re-homing in your local area.

CATS!

No but seriously, I think I like Corgis more. Both are extremely cute, though. I say that as being someone that doesn't like most dog breeds.

If I had to, Corgi, but I'd love a Malamute. Wife is too afraid of big dogs though, so we'll stick to small-medium breed rescues.

People get too hung up on it having to be a certain breed. This is my rescue, Chewie, that everyone thinks is some Corgi mix.

He's a Pomeranian, Yorkie & Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever mix.. or Porkie Duck for short.

I'm biased because I have a corgi. They are an amazing breed: loyal, kind, funny, and full of love. They do have hip issues though. Mine currently has Degentitive Disc Disease. The poor guy is losing nerve in his left leg and will be paralyzed soon in that leg.

Other than that they are a wonderful companion. They will outsmart you though so good luck!

I have a Shiba Inu and a Cat, and I love them dearly.

But I do want to add to the sentiment to adopt.

My mom rescued a 7 year old (at the time) Shiba Inu and German Sheppard mix and she's by far the most intelligent, obedient, and loyal dog I've ever seen around my family.

Owned by Shibas for 11 years now. They're hands down the most unique dog breed I've ever been around.

One of those things you can't properly explain and just have to experience.

From people who get one because it's that meme dog from the Internet LOL without bothering to take the time to actually learn about the breed and what it takes to train and care for a dog. This inevitably leads to their adorable little furballs growing up into unmanageable problem dogs, at which point these ignorant shitheads go online to complain about how Shibas are untrainable little monsters.

As far as shibas, I've lived with one for 3 years now and my GF and I have fostered 2 others in this time frame. They've actually all been pretty different. The two fosters did not have that aloof "is this a cat?" quality to them. They were younger though. Our shiba is 9 years old and she's slow and likes to go off and sleep on her own a lot. Our shiba is very fluffy and a shedder, and other two had more coarse hair that did not seem to shed as much. I'm guessing they shed during certain seasons though so maybe we missed that with the fosters.

Corgis are cuter

Real answer though, just go down to your local rescue center and get the first dumb doggo you fall in love with.

Corgi mixes are just corgis in disguise as another dog.

I see carpet and leather couch. How are you managing all the furs by the shiba and cat?

Also, I vote shiba :D

The Shiba shedding a lot right now. Maybe it has something to do with it being 100+ degrees; the cat doesn't shed too terribly much.

Mine aren't very obedient. They were easy to train and they know commands but whether they follow them or not depends on if they feel like it. They aren't hyper though. Mine just sleep all day.
My one dog will not answer to "come" unless he is on a lead. He will instantly come if I yell "pork chop" though so I use that in emergencies. If you ever see a woman running around screaming "pork chop", it's probably me chasing a Shiba.
