I'm not sold on Nekkoala being an early Pokemon quite yet. Minccino looked like an early Poke too and was revealed relatively early on but it ended up not appearing until around the fourth gym.

Nekkoala and Iwanko both look cute. I'd imagine (although probably wrong) that Nekkoala picks up a 2nd type upon evolution, like Bidoof or Diggersby. Watch the English names be something awkward like Pupebble (Puppy + Pebble) and Koallaby (Koala + lullaby).

these are far from simple since you get subtle things like doge's rock collar

I feel "these are like Gen 1 designs" is an insult than anything else really, and no not because "muh genwun shit". It means that they're not taking advantage of the tech to do intricate details.

Maybe the dog will go the Diggersby route and actually have a decent niche with the right ability?
