COUNTDOWN TO MGS4: The Official MGS Series Playthrough (Part Deux)

Both endings are so amazing. I especially love the last hour or so of MGS2. So many mindfucks all the way until after the credits.

Very same. I think the first codec part after raiden and solidus are on the roof is pure genius. I even showed this to a friend today that has never played any MGS game and they were interested in playing through it based on that part alone.

I realize people are all playing though #4 right now, but for me, it won't be for a couple more weeks. So in the meantime I just finished MGS3 and will move on to Portable Ops.

MGS3 was... depressing. The ending was so... sad. In the early trailers for MGS4, whoever it was saying it says that the world has become what Big Boss has envisioned... and the way the got to that POV... as displayed here... was just so well done.

The gameplay... I have a feeling it'd be better on a second playthrough. It took me so long to get used to CQC, and for the most part I felt naked without the radar. I got a lot more alerts and kills than I would have liked. But around Graniny Gorki I started to feel better with it, and mostly had a great time, especially in Grozynj Grad. That was just excellent, polished, well done gaming.

It'd be hard for me to say which of the 3 is the best... MGS1's gameplay was too archaic for me to fully enjoy but I liked the story and characters. MGS2 was mindblowingly awesome. MGS3 was a punch in the gut story-wise and had a gorgeous and ridiculous game world.

I know one thing, the "Snake Eater" song rules. I love how they did it.

Hm. 2.5 hours and 4.5 hours for first playthrough of MG1 and MG2? Maybe I will play them. Considering the damn MGS4 bundle is out of stock everywhere anyway.

Wow, it took me 7 hours to beat MG2.

Alright so I just wanted to extend my thanks to bebpo for creating this thread. In the weeks leading up I slowly worked my way through the 3 Metal Gear Solid games until I beat MGS1 and 2 the night before MGS4 came out.

It was totally worth it. Going in fresh off the previous games made it a much more complete experience, and Act 4 just blew my mind completely.

THANK YOU BEBPO! :)

Just finished my playthrough of Snake Eater, finishing my playthough of #1-3. My thoughts....

Metal Gear Solid - Love this game. LOVE IT. Great story, characters, bosses and gameplay (but I've never had a problem with MGS' gameplay). Easily the bets PSX game ever, and it deserves a spot in the top 5 best games of all time.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty - Really liked this one, not as great as MGS1, honestly. The bosses were absolutely horrible compared to MGS1, and the swimming section was horrible. I had absolutely no problem with switching from Snake to Raiden, and since this was my third time playing it, I skipped through all of Rose's BS. Also, Snake has the best ass in videogame character HISTORY! I want to touch it.
*P.S. - WHO THE FUCK DESIGNED THE SWORD CONTROLS? WTF?

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater - While I loved everything in this game, something just felt weird. No radar (Those sensors and the directional mic just didn't work for me)! The characters felt really weird and lackluster, too. The most exciting person in this game was EVA, really. Other than that great game!

IMO, MGS1>MGS3>MGS2.

NOW TO MGS4!!!!!!!!11111111

I popped in MGS3 today and it is a little hard to play. Switching camo (even on the PS3 where the loading is not a problem) is irksome, and the third person camera is pulled in a little too close or my liking. Also, there are no on screen prompts for context sensitive actions! It's strange!

I also feel so weird without a proper aiming reticle.

I wish they'd remake it with MGS 4's control scheme :(

what's wrong with the sword controls? i think it works pretty good. and it's easy to pull stuff off, though there aren't many moves with the sword.
