Counter-Strike: Global Offensive official site is live (kinda), beta starting today

Interesting to see how active they are on the Blog/Twitter compared to the Dota team.
 
I really dig Italy visually. I think there's a fair amount of colour, perhaps it's the fog that they're messing with which washes it out. Interiors are a bit lacking, and early. But maybe they're just waiting for heatmaps on that stuff. The only complaint I have is that there are so many crates about, some which seem too large to fit within the streets. It's a little lazy, not like every residential building is going to be taking deliveries.

That's another really nice touch. I was expecting a chicken killer achievement. It's like another little way to tell if someone's around a corner if the chicken runs off. Adds something to the gameplay, it's be interesting to see the AI of the chicken evolve based on creeping or running.
What do the numbers at the bottom-right of the screen mean? Ping and FPS I got, but the rest?
 
Was never a huge CS player, but I'm wondering why I suck so much in CS:GO compared to other FPS's. Any collected tips on how to play?

It's funny, I sit and do single shots with M4 with the reticule on them, no hits, I do burst shots and somehow get a headshot at range. Go full auto while near someone and they go full auto as well, 9/10 times they get a headshot, I don't, even when compensating for recoil.

Any other fps I can go anywhere from 1.5:1 to 2.5:1 in matches. I'm guessing CS has a much steeper learning curve than most FPS's and I just have to feel my way into the game.
 
Somehow my game has managed to screw itself over night. Every time I quick match or join a friend my game crashes to desktop without an error. Clientregistry.blob and verifying the game haven't done anything. Looks like I'm going to have to redownload and hope that fixes it.

Nvm, it's working fine now. Huh.

According to this guy, the blog is completely wrong because decal registration is messed up client side or something like that. All I know is that generally when I aim at someone's head in 1.6 with an AK i kill them, unlike CS:GO

If you are playing offline in your own server the decals should be accurate though. Not sure if they tested online or off, but I would think off. I am curious as to how inaccurate the decals actually are in 1.6 offline. B/c that video you posted looks like he loaded the map himself which would be offline...

Many people now are saying that the actual recoil is fine, the problem is the lack of screen shake and gun movement. The gun doesn't look like it has strong recoil compared to 1.6 so you assume it is shooting accurately.

This guy mapped out the recoil patterns in 1.6 and GO. Honestly they look pretty close.

What about Condition Zero?After all Global Offensive is essentially Condition Zero 2.

Not at all. Condition Zero was just essentially just a skin and model pack for CS 1.6. It had the exact same engine, weapons, damage, physics, etc...

Global Offensive is on the Source engine but it is based on the Portal 2 version of Source. Also, they didn't just take the exact same code from CS:S and update the models/maps. The movement, recoil, weapon damage, etc.. has all been rewritten. If you have played both it is obvious that it doesn't feel like CS:S.

Now Quick Match into Classic Map Cycle
- The map cycle is compose of Train, Nuke, Inferno, Dust, Dust 2, Italy, Office
- At the end of a match players will automatically cycle to a new map in the group
- New voting feature available to players via the in-game menu. Voting allows players to call a vote on the following:

- Change Map
- Swap Teams
- Scramble Team
- Restart Match

• Elite Team ID improvement - Changed keffiya/shemagh to white.
• ST6: team ID fix. - Trying a darker vest/pouch/helmet for distinct value pattern vs elite

General Bug Fixes:
• Fixed occasional crash when earning certain achievements
• Fixed occasional crashes for certain UI popups
• Fixed an assert relating to using a bone index that may not be valid
• Fixed "mp_restartgame 1" NOT setting back Arsenal Demolition game settings such as current weapon on round start.
• Demo mode values were not being reset, nor were players' items being reset. The mp_restartgame convar now causes all mode values to be reset and all players' weapons (primary, secondary and grenades) to be destroyed and reset to the proper defaults.
• Fixed achievements not being displayed properly when earned.
• Fixed asserts that occur when the triangle reticle tries to appear over a character that's head is partially visible. This was causing the reticle to possibly appear in an invalid location while this condition occurred.
• Fixed crash when invalid radar icons are de-referenced.
• Fixed bug where grenades bounced off of the windows in de_lake
• Fixed stutter while spectating a player in the process of ducking.
• Fixed an intermittent crash when attacking with a knife.
• Cleaned up unused sounds causing console spew.

This puppy seems to sound more and more like the true updated iteration Counter-Strike deserved, rather than that pile of wank called Source. I love their attention to detail and feedback, especially with movement, recoil etc. sometimes small but extremely important stuff.

I also love how they give props to the community members who helped with the tuning.
 
How does it feel? I'm not at home so I can't try out.

I haven't really been able to spend two much time with it (a few rounds on Office) but it feels just as sluggish as it was, to me. I'm not a turbo CS player though, but a friend who I play with kind of is, and he seemed to feel about the same.

CS:GO Still feels like crap to me. Had to install the other versions again to crap of it out my mouth. First day I didn't notice but the last time I played I hated the movement and netcode considering certain bugs on it. Until they fix the movement don't care about the new guns and grenades that add more dynamics the series really needed.

Playing office is nightmare when it comes to smooth jumps. I use to think source was garbage but I cannot rely on quick jumping out of the windows in the front area which is critical if you're playing ct.
 
I just got one too, Steam also showed me a message claiming it gave me extra copies, but I do not see these in my inventory.

Boo-urns. Mind you, I didn't think I'd get in with this wave seeing as I received a Dota 2 invite from Valve earlier in the week.

If anyone gets a friend pass with their invite I will gladly take it off your hands ')

Nevermind, restarted my Steam and it just appeared.
 
I found this impossible to play last night. The buy screen and team select screens have no mouse and no way to exit them. I tried typing. The chat box comes up but the keyboard is still in-game and audio options have no Apply button.
