Couple has Zelda themed wedding

What's will all the animosity regarding how SOMEONE ELSE conducts their wedding? I don't understand that. If that's how they wanted to celebrate their wedding, then who the fuck are we to say that's wrong?

The only thing that is embarrassing here is most of GAF's reaction to this.
Because it's a black spot on our collective culture.

In this topic members of GAF try to prove they're not nerdy by calling other people nerdy which in turn makes them look like they're trying too hard to seem "cool" and is now not only nerdy but also an ass.

it doesn't make sense on the surface, but see this:

it makes nerds feel good to know someone else out there might be nerdier and more socially inept than they are, and thus joining in and holding hands to attack such an outcast is cathartic. Ironically, these two nerds at this Zelda wedding are now getting laid which creeps them up the social ladder a tad, which is more than can be said for a lot of the individuals laughing at them.

It still is definitely amusing 'cause it's funny to see tradition so turned on its head for a videogame, and the WAY they did it is fucking tacky... they could have done better things with a Zelda theme! But if it makes them happy, what do I care? That's all that matters when it comes to a wedding, how one personally views its success.

The "Classy" Zelda wedding for kotaku.com

Fixed.

Why do they always have to look the stereotype. Why doesn't this ever happen with beautiful people?

Because beautiful people have social skills and know that a normal wedding will still be special while avoiding the attendees laughing behind their hands at you.

I don't think there is anything wrong with a Zelda themed wedding in general, but that was just horrid. It just seemed like everything was really half-assed. :-/

Tried to get my wife to do this, but she refused to dye her hair blue and sit naked by a lakeside.

Well, she could have just, you know, dressed like Althena. And you could have been a Dragonmaster, or something. :-P

In their defense it was extremely subtle for the most part. Dare I say it was an esoteric wedding of sorts. If you got it you got it if you didnt it was still a normal enough looking wedding.

Poorly designed invitations though.

Two people who love each other celebrate their love through a medium and theme they both equally love and share.

Bitter, lonely gaf strikes again!

A friend of mine's wedding had the bride come down the aisle to an acoustic guitar version of the Lullaby from Zelda. There were maybe three people in attendance who recognized the music and we all kind of rolled our eyes a little, but it was nicely played by the guitarist and the other attendees thought it was a beautiful tune.

Too bad the groom kind of ruined it later by telling people where the tune was from, which caused the entire event hall full of people to roll their eyes simultaneously.

I'm actually kind of jealous of the guy. He is who he is and he isn't ashamed of it. He doesn't even entertain the notion of being ashamed. He's got a beautiful wife and a cute daughter and he never had to fake who he was even once. Lucky guy.

Who are you guys to judge to how they want to conduct their wedding? Would I ever do that? No. But they seemed happy and in love and not all of us can say that. All power to them imo.

Exactly. Glad to see I'm not the only one who sees it that way. I wouldn't do it though. :lol

That's not anyless dumb than dressing up everything in white, especially when the tradition that comes from is incredibly stupid and often outdated.

Video game mythology is more interesting to some than religious mythology. At least it breaks up the monotony.

i love it when a thread reveals more greatness than "collective culture" type bullshit.

Props for them doing something that was obviously important to the two of them. The cake was obviously home made, but hell, wedding cakes are serious expenses.

My wife got pissed off at our wedding when I was putting the ring on her finger and it wasn't being very cooperative, and in my nervousness I let the sound effect for time running out in Super Mario Brothers slip out. Thankfully nobody but her heard me. I still get grief on that one.

Thankfully that was all completely eclipsed by the arrogant, cocksure rabbi who thought he was such hot shit when we met him before the wedding, who was an absolute nervous wreck during the ceremony when he nearly spilled wine on my wife's dress because his hands were shaking so badly, and COMPLETELY forgot to include the translations into Japanese that my brothers and hers had done the night before so that both of our families could appreciate the ceremony.

Talking about game themed weddings- my dad's secretary had an interesting one. It was actually two ceremonies. The first was your usual, normal, traditional wedding. The second was a D & D one- in character, in costume, with wedding guests attending, and the DM the same priest who had performed the ceremony. At least they warned everyone ahead of time (they did this at the hall after the meal). All they wanted were RPG books for wedding gifts. She was kinda cute even.

More subtlety could have made a world of difference. They felt proud not being 'normal' and just did it without thinking twice. I just hope for their sake this realization doesn't hit them later in their lives.

Well, the problem that I have with it isn't the fact that they're breaking the traditional aspect of marriage, but rather that THEY BASED THEIR WEDDING, possibly the most important/memorable moment in either of their lives, AROUND A FUCKING VIDEO GAME. Do you really want one of the happiest, most important moments of your life to center around Zelda?
You don't know the background of how they met (neither do I) The Legend of Zelda could have been what brought them together (or closer) in the first place. Thus very important to them.

While i do see this as geeky, everyone that was there seemed to be having a good time and they didn't go overboard with it. I really expected it to be overly done since there was a thread about it, but it was actually nicely done.

Do you regularly accompany things you do with video game sound effects?

Nice. Im glad they did it and said fuck what everyone else wants/thinks. Seriously, if you don't make yourselves happy, good luck on waiting for the next person to. They get a thumbs up from me.

The mildest story I can tell about a college roommate of mine, a computer science major, was that he would loudly sing the Final Fantasy Victory Fanfare whenever he finished a mathematics problem. It's a thing, I guess.

A good friend of mine had Final Fantasy music for his wedding. This Zelda wedding goes quite a bit further it seems.
Oh wow me too. We played Edward's theme from FF4 for my wedding because here comes the bride is a shit song.
Sadly this is about the ONLY thing in our wedding we got that we wanted in it.

I just don't get the "themed" part of it. It's a wedding not a roller coaster ride. Someone should do a Michael Jordan themed wedding, now that I would appreciate.

I went to a Disney wedding theme!!
I like it so much, but... it was a light theme...

only at dinner we hear live disney balland songs
cake with mickey and mimi
and also.... after the wedding at church... fireworks with disney's music!!

they got married on 7, 07, 2007! lol!!

Themed weddings in general are fucking terrible and should never happen.
As much as I love the Zelda series, even I would never have gone so far as to theme my entire wedding with it; especially down to the music. My wife knows I'm a gamer so we had a grooms' cake that was Mario themed, but that was it. The rest of the wedding decorations and so on were normal.

I don't know, maybe I'm just a lesser geek, but a wedding is one of those things you shouldn't turn into a spectacle/freakish display of fandom. *shrug* If they enjoyed it and everyone had fun, good for them. It's just not something I would have done.

Eh, I wouldn't do it, but if they had a fuckton of fun having a Zelda wedding, then awesome. I want my wedding to be somewhere between traditional and nontraditional. And I want it to be as memorable as hell. It definitely won't be some kind of blatant theme though :P

This would have been tasteful enough, considering it was a video game theme, if it weren't for the music, IMO.

Who cares though? It's not your wedding. I wouldn't be caught dead doing a Zelda wedding, but fuck tradition and expectations. Fuck anybody trying to push them. A wedding is supposed to be, at least in my opinion, a day of expressing love and devotion between two people who feel they've each met their life mate.

I might roll my eyes at some of the ideas and executions of weddings like this, but my opinion doesn't mean shit because in the end if they are happy doing it then that's all that matters.

Two of my friends got married last year and had the best wedding I ever went to. No church or chapel, and instead a french restaurant. No lengthy reception, but instead about 3 minutes (literally) of breif talking and paper signing. White dress? Nope, black and classy. Speeches? Nothing but a very brief thank you. Traditional wedding music? Nowhere to be found, instead a mixed CD of their favourite stuff.

Weddings are about the bride and groom. No-one else. It's their day, their love, and their creation. Let them do whatever the fuck they want, even if it's so bad it will make you throw up, because it's nobody's day but theirs.

In my country you will be laughed at and embarrassed forever... a wedding, a celebration of true love between two individuals... and you decide to ruin it sticking videogames in there? omg. wtf. ffs. smh.

A celebration of love? Marriage is more like a business joint rather than a so-called celebration of love. Freaking moralists.

Anyway, I cringed, but hey, if it made them happy, good for them.

Zelda wedding was silly, I lol a few times like music queues and the bridesmaid necklaces. Surely some of them were non gamers and like WTF is this? I love the Link cupcake formation.

BUT

this stole the thread :D :

If the bride and groom both wanted it and are happy with it, who gives a shit what anyone else thinks, particularly a bunch of self-hating video game nerds on GAF?

This reminds me that if I ever get married to think up a theme more awesome than fucking video games. Seems like a cliche in this generation.

I love using those Mario keychains which make different sound effects from SMB. It's so effective.

Jump, Die, etc. Useful in all situations!
