CPS3 Encryption broken by the mame team! O_O

Competative arcade games (i.e games where a high score or a 2 round win is a big deal) that I own at home are the first things I look for when I head into any reasonably well kept arcade. Which luckily there are a bunch of where I live (London).

It should be fine. SH2 has been nicely emulated... just be worried about the optimization of the SH2

Try running GunBird 2, or any other SH2 games and see how they run. That might give you an idea.

Excellent news. And great work by the team. I have no interest in playing them seeing as even when they were released I didn't like them. But it's very important for the emulation and archiving community.

More progress, this time by the very smart emulator developer ElSemi of Sega Model 2 emulator and Nebula fame!

At this rate we'll be playing CPS3 games on our PCs soon!

Not perfect graphics wise but plays full speed on my Core 2 Duo PC with the multi CPU version of the emu.

Also, a CPS3 FAQ translated from a spanish website.

1. EMULATED GAMES

- JoJo's Venture
- JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
- Street Fighter III: New Generation
- Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact
- Street Fighter III: Third Strike
- Warzard / Red Earth

2. EMULATOR STATUS
- CPU: Emulated.
- Graphics: Can only display 8x8 tiles with correct colors.
- Sound: Emulated.
- Controls: Emulated.
- CDROM: Partially emulated. At the moment games only run in NOCD mode.

3. FAQ
Q: At what speed to the game run?
A: With 3.2 GhZ I can currently get a speed of 400/450 FPS with SFIII: Third Strike.

Q: What romsets are used by the emulator?
A: Official MAME sets.

Q: Does the emu run in Windows Vista?
A: Yes, perfectly.

Q: Will this be a new emulator, on included in Nebula?
A: Undisclosed.

Q: when will it be released?
A: When it's working fine and the author deems it appropriate.

Q: But are the games currently working, for real?
A: Yes, but you can't see almost anything on the screen/

Q: Can you give me links to ROMs and CHDs?
A: No, nothing of that here.

Q: And links to the emulator? I want to be a beta tester.
A: Nope, neither. :-)

Q: Are we going to get an Xbox port?
A: Elsemi says: I don't think the Xbox can handle it.

**** yeah!! Every time this thread is bumped I get excited. Let this be a lesson to you Capcom! Once I taste first-hand how shitty Red Earth is, fat chance getting me to buy a full-priced PS2 release.

so i just downloaded nebula m2...whats wrong with these emu guys? they have the dumbest instructions ever. it's like they completely forget humans will be using their software, and not advanced coders who reverse-engineer dsp chips. the instructions for the rom directory are especially asinine.

i think they do that to weed out the people who can't figure it out...

I think this was kind of hinted at in another post, but the real excitement isnt really being able to play it online or whatever, its that ARCADE PERFECT 3s is SAVED. I have met so many people whose 3s boards batteries have died, and it was really only a matter of time before they all bit the dust. DC is not arcade perfect, neither is Xbox and PS2 even though its pretty close.

The cracking of the encryption also means that they might be able to resuscitate old, dead CPS3 carts that have long since suicided.

But emu/MAME stuff here at GAF is kind of like Fight Club, and we all know what the first rule of fight club is.

PartyCrashing = 00s, FightClubs so, so 90s ... :lol

Here in the Uk we have an occasional exhibition of arcade machines called Game On which had a MAME cabinet this year with loads of really obscure things on it.

There is a big difference between abandon-ware emulation and cracking things that still make companies money - but I really know so little about modern arcade games that i've no idea which category this falls into. Do people really still care this much about Streetfighter?

If the batteries are dying and potentially rendering lots of cool games lost forever then I say rescue away.

YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!! (x infinty)

How glorious is the day. I cannot wait until we can have secret under-the-radar GAF tourneys in TS!

Good to know, I was wondering about that. My buddy has like 3 dead carts he would probably want working again. :lol

Sprites..

This is the first shot of some sprites with meaningful tiles. Everything is in the wrong place and upside down at the moment, but you can see where this is heading.

I'll correct myself, it will be ready for the end of July!!!

The CPS3 is not a very powerful system. I'm sure that a Duron 1.5 ghz with 512MB of ram will be able to run the system.

do you guys think this will run fairly well in my macbook? intel 2gig core duo with 1 gig ram but onboard vid card.
Essentially the same arcade board ran nearly 100% on the Xbox (I'd say 80% but it hit 100% at times)

That's a 733MHz, 64MB system

CPS3 uses 256MB RAM maximum so i'd say have 384MB free for your games

gaf fight club? i would so be down for that....

Jeez, every day when this thread is bumped despite seeing the leaps they're making daily, I'm always surprised by just how much they accomplish in one freaking day.

No way no way no way. Surreal timegap. Hype multiplied by unmentionable factor. How is this possible @_@?

*praises whoever is doing this!*

Edit: Hey, why does this have a different interface and why can't I find this picture on the official page? D:

Edit2: Phew, false alarm of it being fake ^-^ thanks guys!

God damn, this thread makes me so happy.

Seeing that sf3:double impact screen shot made me instantly want to parry that fireball, wait for a jump in, parry that too and strong fierce into shippu

god, i love me some 3s

wait, are two separate temas working on this?

Perhaps more, who knows. The problem is that Nebula is not open source, so unless they are cooperating the MAME devs will have to keep working on their own. But something tells me they are helping each other.

This is exactly the reason this entire thing is so awesome. This isn't just a hacked together emu. MAME is a documentation project. The fact that people could use MAME as a reference source to repair old boards and carts is terrific. It's why MAME is so great.

Haze said an Athlon XP 2400+ ran the game with no sprites at 85%. Once they get the rest of the game emulated, I have a suspicion that this thing will need some pretty good hardware to get to 100%.
