Crackdown 1 vs 2

I recently got both of these games but I am trying to decide which one to play. Which one offers the most fun missions and superhero-like powers? I remember watching a friend play the first (I think) and I loved how fast his character was going and how he was jumping from building to building and climbing stuff all over the city.

e- Crackdown 1 it is! Thanks everyone.

1st is better all around. 2 offers more co-op possibilities, but whatever. Rushed out the door.

The first one is pretty good as a co-op and single player game
The second one requires co-op to be enjoyable

The first is far better in my opinion, I can't believe they took out the transforming cars, this was such a bad ass feature. I also hated the zombies in the second one!

I think Crackdown could have done with some level caps, by the time I was ready to play through the campaign, I'd levelled up too much and just romped through with no opposition.

I'd be up for Crackdown 3 but would prefer things to be balanced somehow.

Powers wise they are pretty much identical with the second adding a couple things, like the wing suit ability that let's you glide but I never thought it was that great of an ability.

A friend and I played through both recently again, they are fun in their own ways. The first is a little more focused with the bosses to defeat, agent cars upgrade as you level, points to take on the map so you can spawn, orbs are easier to collect generally. The second gets rid of the bosses and brings in the zombies, a lot less focused as you can generally do as you please and spawn where you want iirc, some extra abilities, helicopters, a literal fuckton more orbs to get, but it is the exact same city with some changes.

I think my friend and I enjoyed the first more generally, we spent hours in the stadium just rainy around in cars trying to do flips, or doing the races in the big trucks which could never drive up stairs properly. But that isn't to say the second isn't enjoyable, if you can get a friend to play with I would suggest playing through both, they can be a lot of fun.

For me that was one of the strong points of Crackdown. Go and stand where ever you want, how ever you want. Crackdown doesn't limit you in any way.

I liked Crackdown 1 more.

Transforming vehicles indicative of my driving skill? Fuck yeah.

Each encounter having at least some variety to it, rather than being lolzombies? Any day.

Better soundtrack? By far.

There's other reasons, but those come to mind first. That said, I did enjoy the PvP in CD2 despite it being pretty fucking dumb, and I liked the flight suit a whole lot too. I also wouldn't mind having that Space Marine-ass Agent as an option for my Agent. I was bummed they cut out the choices CD1 gave you, colors weren't a substitute for personality.

If you look at them in isolation the second one is probably a bit better, but as a sequel to the first it's terrible. If you play them in order then you're going to be disappointed by the second one. So I'd probably just play through the second. It lacks a bit of the charm, but personally I prefer the mechanics.

Were there a way to remove the fucking annoying zombies from the second game, I'd recommend that one.

As is, though...single/coop CD1 first, then check out the stupid-fun multiplayer in CD2.

Yeah, I kinda expected that some people would have really liked that. I just personally feel that since you have to level your character up to access certain areas anyway (for example, agility requirements) if the enemies were also integrated into that process then it would make for a more balanced experience.

I'm not typically into open world games and I like challenges, I don't get any great enjoyment from being all powerful in a game and I know lots of people do like open world games, but I can totally get that other people don't feel the same. I can also understand that too many restrictions would remove a lot of the game's identity.

So I guess I'd like something like Crackdown, but not exactly the same.

The first is the better game. Campaign works better. City feels nicer as it's less dark and destroyed. The freaks aren't as common which is generally nice, although the quarry in the second was awesome with hundreds of them. Transforming cars are awesome.

Second game has the better powers. Especially with the DLC. Wingsuit + Rocket Boots means you can fly. Never have to touch the ground.

Overall I prefer the first game. It just feels better made and more fun to mess around in.

Weird thing? People always talk about Crackdown 2 as introducing the freaks (zombies). Yet they are a reasonable story section in the first game. Just not as common and throughout the whole game as in the second.

Have you tried Prototype and Infamous?

If Infamous had co-op, I would recommend this....I think this is the only edge that Crackdown has over Infamous

Saints Row 4 is an excellent sequel to Crackdown.
