CRAZY Accident on I-95 in Baltimore

Got to love GAF sometimes.

Yes, I bet you all would have made a miraculous leap over the 3-story gap between the elevated highways, only to stop the oncoming waves of 70.000lbs trucks on an icy road with your bare freaking hands.

Dude called 911 before he filmed this and called 911 again right after. He clearly says so in this video.
Also, rule one of first aid is to not get your own ass in danger, by the way.

Don't forget their 10 inch cock.

This kind of shit is exactly why I moved out of Michigan for warmer weather. I was almost killed during one of my last winters there by a truck that slid into the back of my car while on my way to work. Snow is cute and fun to play with and skate on as a kid, but as soon as you become an adult it becomes a nightmare to commute anywhere..I hope the trucker that exploded is ok jesus bro.

Does anyone else think it kinda looks like the tanker driver purposefully tried to put his tank into the gap?

I'm sure he lost control the minute he hit that ice. I don't think he somehow aimed for a gap. That shit happens so fast you'd die before you could even blink an eye.

This fucking thread. Seriously. It's like some of you lack even the most basic of comprehension or understanding of the situation and - with you your palms all sweaty, your hands trembling, and your heart racing at the chance to post your faux outrage - didn't even bother to watch the entire video. You all are true heroes. Real human beans.

As for the video, this is horrifying. Poor people. This is why I am always cautious when winter comes. Any sign of rain or snow, I am in automatic defense driving mode. We are driving 1 to 3 tons of machinery at high speeds. The force at even 10 mph is strong enough to seriously hurt someone. Fuck that.

I could've saved them all....wtf was this guy doing..

You would have leapt across a 10 foot wide, 20 foot deep gap onto an icy road to single-handedly stop a tanker truck you didn't know was coming before it exploded 3 seconds later? I tip my imaginary hat to your theoretical heroism, sir.

Don't forget - in the dark.

On an interstate highway? No they absolutely do not. If big trucks just started slowing down at every bridge because it's 32 degrees there would be many more accidents and problems than are caused by icing. It's cold way more often than it is icy.
You dont think smart cars will be smart enough to share road conditions with smart cars behind them? Or that roadside sensors would keep that info to themselves?

We got some Superman 64 speedrunners up in this thread

For those interested it would have been right around : here
Looks like my original guess for where it happened was right. It looked like I-95 somewhere near the b-more pineapple.

I think he was being sarcastic. As for me...yeah. I'll do all that you just listed. Cause I am a Gaffer. I'll jump over there, flying on my ten incher.

Apparently there are more Kryptonians lurking on GAF that I previously realized, sarcastic or not, given some of the other posts in this thread.

If all cars were automated it's not an issue. But that won't be the case for quite awhile.

You really thing an AI will do better in bad weather? With black ice? Because I seriously doubt it. That's one of the major challenges of having a self driving car- winter weather is difficult to navigate. Or even heavy rain. If the traffic conditions shifted abruptly, the AI is probably going to have the exact same thing happen.
With the right tech, sure. We have to be willing to do more. Connected cars that warn each other for slippery conditions based on GPS location? Machines picking up slippage? Easy access to regional weather forecasts? Quicker monitoring of gradation.

You remove the human input and i assume you'll get better control of speeds. I speed due to fatigue and frustration, all human emotions. How many of these guys where speeding home from work due to excessive hours?

It's not a slam dunk but there are a lot of human inputs that led to this that science and good tech will help. Smart roads. Roads that can warn you of upcoming crashes. I have an app that does this now based on user input. Hell, imagine what waze would be like with people able to focus on not driving.

If it recently rained and it's freezing conditions, you could control the speed. Put hard limits on cars. People don't need to deal with driving, in the future, so they may not care to arrive 10-20 minutes late. They aren't honking at each other or cursing at each other. It would be similar to sitting in traffic in a cab or limo. Almost infinitely better, emotionally, compared to actually driving.

We aren't there now but i believe good tech will solve this.

I don't understand why all the cars are still driving into the smoke? It's like, stop driving.

Some are sliding (the FedEx truck in particular), but I think others thought it was a better idea to get through than to stop in the middle of the highway and have someone rear-end you, which is exactly what happened at the end when another semi crashed into the one stopped in front.

One driver thought he could get around it and well... make a bad call considering there was likely some obstructions necessitating the 911 call before the tanker crash.

The others just likely slid on the same pretense of anyone else caught in this ugly mess (driving highway speeds, didn't know there was ice, and just flat out slid).

*footage of horrific crash and explosion*

"What's wrong with this guy's accent?"

"I analyzed his voice and it sounded like he wasn't even upset."

"He should have put down the phone and single-handedly stopped this entire thing. Scum."

Trump bringing out people's true colors.

If you watch the video, you'll see that he saw the tanker before it went up in flames and did nothing.
humans don't poses SUPER JUMP as a super power, there is no humanly way he could cross over to the opposing lanes because they are ELEVATED!!!! and seperated by an open gap where you would fall 50 feet to 100 feet below

it is the 2nd time that you imply that he "could" help which is physically impossible unless you can fly or super jump

and if you say that that jump is "possible", good luck getting traction or momentum with that ice

Notice how he has yet to actually state what the people on the other side of a bridge could have done, and subsequently ignored all posts taking him to task about that.

Seriously, I don't get how much of a fucking asshole you have to be to either troll the deaths and injuries of real people or to blame innocent bystanders for not being the Avengers.

If Baltimore had anything like Missouri had last night there is really nothing that could be done. I was stuck on Hwy 270N for 3 hours last night and even at low speeds people were crashing. Hell I could barely walk in a parking lot. It's supposed to be 4 F here tonight with more freezing rain and sleet. I don't look forward to the commute home.

PLEASE be careful driving home.

That's insane.

And fuck the people hating on the guy. He called 911 before and after the recording and he wasn't the only one there. Geez

and if he could have made to the other side to help, he would be putting his life in danger with the non-stop incoming traffic, especially the big dump trucks.

those trucks care more about making their deliveries than actually being safe

If enough people got into the other lane they could have formed a human speed bump.
pretty much!

The guy filming this performed a civil service by filming this in its entirety. Not just for everyone's education, but also for the legal procedures that will follow this disaster.

What would the legal procedures even be in an accident like this, and by that I mean who if anyone could be held liable; the insurance companies, you mean?

Everyone who crashed was driving too fast for conditions. Uncomfortable fact and GAF won't admit it but generously speaking 80% of American drivers should never have passed the test.

Freeway is basically people on the phone driving like shit.

In Dallas we get a lot of ice instead of snow. Shit like this happens a lot. Thoughts are with the families of the dead. Got what a shitty way to go.

Gotta love internet forum members sitting at their computers typing about how much better they would have handled this horrific situation.

Yeah, the urge people have to shit on other people in situations they've never been in themselves is disturbing. It used to just be celebrities, but no it's anyone with a face (not even a face in this case) on the internet.
Because he was the only one in that traffic jam with a cellphone, right?

Also, if it's anything like Toronto, I'm pretty sure the people monitoring the traffic cameras would have noticed a GIANT FIREBALL and dispatched emergency services right away.

That's a good avatar

Defensive driving is safe driving. In case of low visibility, pull over to the side of the road until the fog has rolled through. In slick weather conditions, reduce your speed to 45mph and go soft on your breaks.

I live like 10 minutes away from this part of the highway and has gone through there so many times. It gets really dark in that area at night and curves right which decreases in elevation as you get closer to the city.

RIP on the tanker driver, roads were real bad this morning.
