Crazy Ex Girlfriend Season 2 |OT| She's So Broken Inside

Man that Paula-Rebecca fight was brutal. Really well acted, too, especially on Paula's actress' part.

LoL at the stinger about losing virginity and Rebecca is only temporarily disturbed by that revelation

This season has been spectacular, and this episode was probably the highlight so far.

Few shows have the patience this show does, so that Rebecca-Paula meltdown was just so much more raw and powerful because it felt so earned. This episode just worked on every level, from the songs (Friendtopia!) to the supporting/guest actors (Surfshop girl!) to the parallel episode within an episode (Trent!).

Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend both reached series highs this week in my opinion. Wish they were still both on Monday nights together :-(

Holy shit this episode was amazeballs. Donna Lynn and Rachel murdered that scene, like the drug dealers in that house.

FYI it was written by Jack Dolgen who is one of the primary song writers.

Love this episode. Favorite parts:

  • Trent's blood stain on his back after his getting ready song.
  • She posted her suicide note on Facebook. Before they added the different like options. So people didn't know what to do.

I love how the camera longer on Josh burying himself in the packing peanuts.

The lighting inside of the house was odd. Some shots made it look like Rebecca was superimposed over the shot.

First half of the episode was super awkward in the not funny way. Almost creepy. Second half made up for it culminating in the super awkward and very funny Maya dance.

So this season isn't very good is it, nothing set up, random plot points keep pop-in up.
The triangle song was good though.

I don't know about "nothing set up" - it's been setting up a rift between Rebecca and Paula for the last little while until it blew up last night.

In the grand vision of the season so far, it's continuously highlighting Rebecca's bad qualities and decisions, and it has to amount to something, too.

"Forced friendships are bad" has been the main message of the last two episodes. One successful with Rebecca forcing Valencia to like her; and the other completely opposite with Rebecca forcing Paula to be part of her girl gurl group. Wouldn't surprise me if Valencia eventually turns on them.

Edit: and you know they're not done with Josh/Rebecca just yet either.

To be fair, I think Rebecca made a fair point about Paula not really giving her a chance especially with the abortion thing when she came to visit.

I think the season is exploring the consequences of Rebecca's influence on inhhabitants of West Covina even more. Greg already got his happy ending (sort of). Paula is attending law school, and while the jury is out on how the situation with her friendships/home/work/university will turn out, it's already a major change. Darryl is learning how to not be needy and got an unexpected friend out of it.

So far there were somewhat positive developements with Valencia and Heather, but that #gurlsquad can't last. I'm predicting that Rebecca will figuratively throw Valencia under the bus the moment a chance to be with Josh will present itself. But in the end Valencia and Heather will become real friends, since those two seem like unexpectedly great match (both direct and little unsensitive, but craving female friendship. Valencia's drive and business thinking could balance Heather's passive character quite well).

I've never felt like the show was directionless - and people always said that during first season. The writers are very careful with setting character arcs for all major players and I trust them completely.

Just watching now. "Sweet Vallet High meets 1984."
I was laughing too damn hard to be as horrified at that as I should be.

EDIT:
Just finished. Definitely one of the high points of the entire series. It was just a lot of things building to that explosive encounter between Paula and Rebecca, and they delivered hard with it. It was so painful to watch, but every second felt earned.

It was awesome seeing Trent again as well. The "Trent is Getting Ready Song" that was then capped with that stinger was just too much. I was crying from laughing so hard at the stinger. "Pay the toll..."

And Maya is doing it for me on many levels. I don't know whether to feel awkward for admitting that or not.

Lastly, it is always hilarious to see Karen. The sex toy demonstration was amazing.

That was an amazing 80s power ballad at the end.

But holy shit Rebecca and Valencia are fucking magical together.

The whole thing with Valencia and Rebecca, the cyber stalking song, the melody from "Feelin' Kinda Naughty" transitioning to "Good At Yoga", all of it was amazing. Poor Gravy though. The Paula/Rebecca power ballad at the end where I could swear the hair got bigger as it progressed, beautiful.

EDIT: Oh yeah and bringing back "bonkerballs", I appreciated that.

EDIT2: Research Me Obsessively - feat. Brittany Snow is already up.

So that's the last episode until January. Damn.

I was hoping for another Christmas song like last year's, which was amazing.

Disappointed that Santino is leaving but the show will be fine, that was another fantastic episode. I loved the introduction of Heather's parents and the whole "they were around the whole time" thing they did while Rebecca was completely unaware, just like us. Also Yael Grobglas guesting as the head of Miss Douche, this and what she's doing on Jane she has to be having a lot of fun. Those songs were great as they've been pretty damn solid so far all season.

Heather has gotten a lot less deadpan this season though.

EDIT: Or should I say, has left?

Haven't caught up for a few weeks but holy hell "It Was a Shit Show" was the send off Santino deserved: one of if not the best song of the entire series.

Think he means the season ends in February. Its fate is still up in the air. Although, with the show landing on lots of top 10 lists and Rachel Bloom getting another Golden Globe nom, I see it getting a third season.

I seriously hope it gets renewed for a third season, but I'm always nervous for shows I like until renewal is confirmed. I would literally sacrifice every other show I watch to ensure Crazy Ex-Girlfriend's renewal.

I think it, like Jane the Virgin are safe since despite not bringing in the ratings are kind of "prestige" shows for the network.

Isn't it also one of the few CBS-produced shows on the CW? I heard somewhere that they have to keep a certain number of those (versus the WB-produced shows like the Arrowverse ones).

Reminder (if it's actually needed) we getting two episodes Friday night since TVD isn't coming back until next week.

Yeah which is another reason why it's likely safe, CBS is already fairly well behind WB and with Reign ending and No Tomorrow unfortunately having no future, I think it plays into why I think it'll be safe despite the ratings and viewership numbers not being so hot even on a Friday.

Two very awesome pieces of information. Thank you very much.
