Crazy Taxi coming to iOS

Awesome - can't wait for apple to unveil the iPad mimi.

Wait.

Did I just hear The Offspring in that trailer? "All I Want" was missing in the HD versions, wasn't it?

If they solved the licensing issues for the iOS re-release I'm so going to buy it yet again. Crazy Taxi without YA YA YA YA YA just isn't the same.

If the track still isn't included, I fucking hate Sega for getting my hopes up with that trailer. :(

Oh I'm sure that'll play wonderfully. :\
Me too, I love racing games on iOS when they're tuned properly with super precise tilt steering like Real Racing 2!

It sure beats gamepads. Of course not as good as steering wheels. But it's not like those are portable.

I actually like tilt steering as well in some games.

Crazy Taxi, though, isn't such a game and would be atrocious with tilt steering. It's such a fast paced, twitch game that demands a lot from the player.

I suppose you could play the game at a low level on iOS and have some fun.

Precision is not something I worry about in Crazy Taxi games
Are you kidding? That's what Crazy Taxi is all about. You need WAY more precision with CT than you do in most actual driving games.

It actually is quite important. You don't wanna bounce off walls, "hit" your potential customer, constant collision with traffic etc., which will affect your time and high score, which this game is all about.

Tilt controls work pretty well in iOS racing games, actually. It's one of the genres that suffer the least from being on a touchscreen device.
I agree. Like I just said, tilt works really well for racing games...but Crazy Taxi is not a racing game.

I'm not even knocking iOS gaming here, rather, the idea that Crazy Taxi could be played properly on such a device. Some games just aren't meant for touch screens and motion sensors.

Also, working the accelerator in combination with the drive and reverse function plays a huge role.

I think it can be done with proper tuning, if they put the effort in. Which they may not. It's twitchy with an analog stick too.

Crazy Taxi is probably going to control like shit. If you never mastered Crazy Taxi, there's more than just hitting gas and steering. You have to do constant gear shifting if you want the best scores. I wonder if they'll change any mechanics to make it work for iOS

To play CT properly you need to be constantly hitting the gas, brake, forward, and reverse functions. You'll need to be able to quickly shift to reverse then shift to drive while simultaneously hitting the accelerator (with proper timing).

Basically, stopping and starting quickly along with very quick maneuvers are all very important and require multiple buttons to be used at one time. When mastered you could easily do laps around the city for some seriously high scores. I used to have so much damn fun doing this (both at the arcade and at home). Could keep playing on a couple quarters for a very long time.

If you play CT in a very casual fashion, though, I suppose it'll be fine. I'll probably still buy for novelty sake.

Sega's new re-releases of old games have been great recently, they seriously need to go back and redo Crazy Taxi with the original soundtrack and widescreen display, Sonic Adventure 1 too while you're at it. They also need to redo Sonic 1/2/3/Knuckles and get M2 to do the ports like they did with Golden Axe Trilogy & Streets of Rage Trilogy.

Yep, that is something you are constantly doing in Crazy Taxi and i'm not sure how well it will work on a touchscreen with no feedback on what you're pressing...

Yeah, Crazy Taxi is one of those games that I don't see working all that well on a touchscreen.

Maybe if they are super smart with controls and tweaking instead of going with the simple 1:1 virtual controls transition.

Wait, we could have had an HD version of Crazy Taxi with the original soundtrack? Like, the only thing preventing this was timing? I'm kind of salty if so.

And yeah, this is not a game that could be fully enjoyed through touch screen and motion controls.

So it's as crummy as the recent HD port with all the licensed music, KFC and Tower Records branding removed but with added shitty touch controls?

Said already, but if you've ever played this game with the intention of actually lasting more than 3 or 4 customers, you'd understand why controlling this with motion and touch isn't exactly the best idea.

I guess if all you want to do is muck around...

Maybe they could just add an infinite timer for that.

Maybe they're just trolling everyone and only licensed music for that lengthy eleven second trailer.

The way I see it is that it will be far from the ideal way to play the game, but at the same time I wouldn't mind grabbing it for a buck or two just to have it on my phone.

Nostalgia's a helluva drug?

Crazy Taxi iOS: Motion control driving? Motion control driving.

What they really need to do is work with Nintendo and open up a Dreamcast and Sega Saturn sections to the Virtual Console for Wii U and fill it with tons of great games just like they did for Genesis/Mega Drive and Master System.

Those (measly) three damn songs.
Weren't there four? Oddly, I can only remember "All I Want", "Them and Us" and "Way Down the Line", but I could've sworn there was a fourth.

IMDb is listing well more than just one more song, though; "Americana", "Ten in 2010", "Hear It" and "Inner Logic". Of those, I think "Ten in 2010" sounds the most familiar...
