Crazy Theory re: Wii U Virtual Console games release timing

I'm amazed that Nintendo managed to create a stealth Ambassador's program for early Wii U buyers and no one's pointed it out yet.
If it was on ambassador level we would have snes SMW, and Donkey Kong country, Link to the past for 30cent too. If its ambassador the fucked up cause I already have balloon fight on my 3DS from that ambassador for free

Maybe they're saving those for the holidays next year. It seems to be set up as an incentive to buy a Wii U as soon as possible so you can get as many cheap games as possible. It'd be smart for them to save the big guns for when there's going to be heavier competition and demand.

Back to the topic, I vaguely remember Nintendo launching Super Metroid on the Wii virtual console to coincide with the release of Metroid Prime 3, so I think there's definitely an established pattern of Nintendo using virtual console games to promote new releases.

I'm too lazy to do the research, but I'd like to see what Virtual Console releases have been during E3 for the past six years.

Is there anything that indicates that Retro is working on a new Metroid title? Or where does that rumor come from?

It's just speculation. We don't know what Retro is working on and they've made Metroid in the past. As OP pointed out, Super Metroid is kind of an outlier in terms of quality on the trial virtual console games list. I don't think it's crazy at all.

Wouldn't it make more sense for Nintendo to start the sale for such a title during E3, rather than ending it? That way they can take advantage of the hype built by any such announcement? I don't see how selling Super Metroid for a month before E3 builds any hype without knowing if anything will be announced.

Also the fallacy with your, admittedly, crazy theory is that it would have been applied for any game they sold during that time period.

Aren't there other rumors that Retro is working on an online FPS based on their job listings? Metroid would definitely be the franchise for that, considering how much Nintendo hates launching new IPs.

Well, as long as the sale is still going on during the announcement people can go and get Super Metroid for the discount after hearing about the new game. But it is kind of weird that it ends right at the end of E3. You'd think they'd give people at least a couple days.

More like Metroid Prime reborn in HD!

They told their investors they'd sell >20m games before April, they just didn't point out they would be 30¢.

Ah ok, i see, thanks. I've seen the speculation about Metroid WiiU earlier too, so i was wondering if there was any hold to it or just lose speculation.

Thanks. Not exactly an amazing group of titles. Haha at 2011.

I think that the OP is closer than we may realize. Glancing at this list, I think we're looking at the big secret iPs/Remakes that Nintendo intends to release on WII U through the rest of the year and Q1.

Balloon Fight = NintendoLand game

and Super Metroid might be the hint at the announcement of the new 3D metroid game at E3.

I also suspect that each of the other titles will be coming out too, including Punch Out, Kirby, etc.

Nintendo be tricky, yo.

No.

They are just nintendo classics. That's it.

Hell most of them were already in Nintendo Land. It doesn't mean a thing.

Don't do this to yourselves GAF :c

A new Metroid game? I'd like that. I hope it's not from Retro though, if only because I'd like to believe they're resurrecting some other franchise or working on a new IP.
