I like cream soda. It's not common at most restaurants around here, though. As far as grocery store brands, go, IBC is pretty good and common. I like Thomas Kemper more, though. There's a local Italian restaurant that also serves its own Italian cream soda that's pretty good. Not all cream sodas are equal, though. Safeway sells both IBC and Henry Weinhard. The HW is nasty in comparison, imo.

I don't drink soda or carbonated sugar drinks of any kind anymore, but I definitely used to enjoy cream soda. It was one of my favorite types of soda.

I don't know that I have a favorite flavor of soda, but Creme Soda, Root Beer and Dr. Pepper/Cherry Dr. Pepper are definitely the only competitor's in the running.

I don't think I've ever encounted cream soda in the wilds of eating out...unless Crackerbarrel has one? Been years and I vaguely recall them having some sort of bottled drink that was Orange and an old chum from Philly being obsessed with down here in GA.

To you, good sir, might I recommend picking up a small glass 6 pack of White Rock Ginger Ale? Had it for the first time last night, have no desire to ever seek out Canada Dry/Schweppes again.

Root beer...am I the only one that thinks it sometimes somehow tastes like Marshmallows, then good for a little bit, but if you try to sip it too fast you get this funny feeling that if you continue at that pace you'll vomit real soon?

It's possible you had a crappy brand/s. Boylan's cream soda tastes very good. Cane sugar + glass bottles. I've tried cheaper brands that tasted vile and made me throw away most of the drink.

I too stand by Boylan's Cream Soda. I grew up on crappy off brand Cream Soda's like Safeway's Select brand, those are horrible! You should give the good stuff recommended in this thread a try.

As for root beer, Barq's is not to my liking.. A&W is okay.. but I believe I have yet to find the perfect one.

Sprecher is insanely good. The only place I've ever found it though is at a pharmacy that is pretty far out of my way.

Boylan's tastes pretty similar, and is also sold in bottles at Jason's Deli if you happen to have one close by.

A&W and Jones don't even compare...

"Big K" cream soda, like most flavors of generic soda, is pretty nasty. Henry Weinhardt's is delicious. They make good root beer too.

Never tried birch beer.

Anyone badmouthing Cream Soda or Root Beer need to understand that properly made, both of these are actually brewed, like beer. If you are judging a brand that is made from a mix like a modern soda, then you are not drinking a true Cream Soda or Root Beer. They are old traditions with a lot of variety from one brand to the next, just like regular beer.

Like some have said, it all depends on the quality of cream soda you get. Word of advice, stay the f away from A&W root beer float bottled soda, shit is vile.

Isn't it really unusual in Europe? Never seen it here in Sweden other than at stores that has imported american foods.

Anyway, Cream Soda is friggin great though, love it to pieces! I usually bring a couple with me back home to Sweden after each visit to America just to have a for special occasions.

I think root beer is pretty uncommon in Europe too. Most of the German's I've met have said it tastes like toothpaste.
