Crimes against gamers this gen and past.

OtherM. Anyone responsible for this mess should be prosecuted.

Also, RROD on 360 consoles. Microsoft literally scammed every single gamer with an auto destructive console, forcing most users to buy the console multiple times (for their games to not become useless). Thus, increasing their hardware sales significantly.

Mega Man Legends 3.

"Hey guys WE'RE MAKING THE GAME!"

"Ok well, we're making a demo and gauging interest in a full game based on that."

"Ok well, it's actually a paid demo, you have to buy a demo or else we won't get to make the full game."

"Actually nevermind, we won't even sell you a demo. Fuck Mega Man Legends 3 and fuck all of you."

Silent Hill HD

Just about everything is wrong with it. They knew it was broken well before it even came out. (tomm hulett included) The first patch(released one day after it came out) was in development well before anybody got to play it and it did absolutely nothing.

From the voice actor controversy to the shitty state it launched in and remains to up to this very day, the Silent Hill HD Collection was nothing but a debacle. It's like Konami was TRYING to kill the franchise this gen.

FFXIII - I get the 'new FF', opening the package with reminiscences of FFVII. Three hours later? What the actual fuck???

ME3 ending: Again, what the actual fuck???

Xbox with paid services like Netflix behind the XBLG paywall.

Speaking of Nintendo that 1st 3ds price drop kinda stung. Vita still stings and I kinda wish super street fighter hd remix kept its original look but it was great nonetheless.

Pretty sure that's just Ovlivion and Skyrim and I don't remember Oblivion running especially like ass on PS3.
Have you ever played a game like Pokemon or Final Fantasy and forgotten to save? Hated the prospect of going back and re-doing everything you just did so much that you just drop the game entirely for a while?

I was playing Fallout 3 on PS3, ready to clock in my 300th hour on that save. I was overlooking that one factory that's surrounded by cliffs, with a super mutant behemoth caged in out front. Saw a patrolling guard and decided to snipe him. Kill cam time!

As the bullet was on route to the victim, my PS3 froze.

I thought it was just a freeze so I let the system sit for a few minutes - maybe it would wear off, as it had before?

After resetting the system an hour later I find that my entire hard drive is corrupted and I lost every single save game I had on the system.

Fuck Bethesda

Fuck Bethesda

Yeah.....I would...just...wow.

I forgot some of the FO3 and NV bugs - some of which made it impossible to beat the game if you didn't have a good save.

Oh yeah, forgot- Nintendo's friend code system (thank god it's been drastically changed from what it was), and their lack of unified online accounts.

The existence of Metroid: Other M

Square Enix not bringing over Type-0, and leaving some of their best PSP games off of PSN (Crisis Core, Birth by Sleep, etc.)

RAGE being a great game until you realized that you were playing the final level and that anticlimactic ending... (and it was in development for a long time. How did it ship like it did?)

Tin Giant's Ratchet & Clank: FFA port

Paid games on iOS switching to freemium models, giving the shaft to those who bought the game prior.

Metroid: Other M
Final Fantasy XIII
DLC
EA thinking it's a good idea to have a F2P model with a game that isn't F2P like Dead Space
EA in general (thinking about Sim City and other crap)
on disk DLC
Square Enix.... I was going to list everything they do, but everything they do is crap and I'm sure most of GAF is aware of it.

The shit that Microsoft has tried to pull off with the XboxOne. They have allowed us to peek at what would a Microsoft controlled videogame market would look like, and it was freaking terrifying. I have never feel strongly either for or against Microsoft, but after that I cannot be buying their games while being conscious that by doing it so, I would be nudging the market towards an anti-consumer future.

-putting bars to fill in so many games to do some dull and pointless activities to extend the game
-mechanics in F2P cynically designed to exploit the player (and his/her credit card)
-shitty DRM clients (GFWL, Uplay, Steam, etc.)

surprised no one mentioned Crackdown 2... what a sham that game was. Same map, minor tweaks, barely any changes to gameplay. Total joke and a crime.

You guys, and I can't stress this enough

get over it

You'd think that a forum of people who largely understand how different PS3 and 360 architectures are from both their predecessors and their successors would understand that hardware emulation isn't simple and inbuilt console hardware simply for the sake of backwards compatibility drives up the price of consoles.

You know, when I bought my first Gamecube a decade ago I had the option of selling my N64 to a friend to cover a quarter of that cost. I didn't, because I decided that I still valued my N64 games enough to keep the original hardware. To each his own, I understand that there are plenty of circumstances in which selling a video game console ain't shit in the grand scheme of things. I just don't find it reasonable to expect backwards compatibility in every console just because four home consoles in the last thirteen years boasted it (two of which suffered from hardware emulation woes or SKU shifts that ended backwards compatibility)

I agree. BC was just something started by Sony with the PS2 which used the PSX chip as an IO chip and the experiment proved to not be worth the effort when it required additional hardware. Plus only a tiny vocal, over-privileged minority thinks this matters. I wish they would design an BC add-on and sell it for a minimum profit just so everyone can see how un-fucking popular it is for what it costs.

I know I keep banging on about it but...the closure of Studio Liverpool.

Other crimes:

FFXIII - I bought my PS3 for this turd.

No show for TLG (hoping TGS redeems this)

Versus being in limbo for so long

the walking dead game. won tons of GOTY, i haven't played a version that isn't broke in some way.

PC has saves that just bring back characters you kill. ps3... stuttery... just got the vita one... even worse stuttery and pauses.

it's like playing a badly scratched psx game.

A lot of good ones mentioned already, but I would nominate Microsoft's 1st party over the last few years. They shit out the same 4 franchises on us again and again. They had way more variety of exclusives during the 1st 3 years. Sony gets a nod too for their crappy patching & install system. It shouldn't take me an hour to play a physical disk I just bought. When I can download & launch a game faster on Steam than install & update a PS3 game, makes me furious.

Limited install activations.
On disk DLCs.
EA thinking it's a good idea to have a F2P model with a game that isn't F2P like Dead Space
Yes, yes and yes.

Oh, I see. These are some crimes against gamers:

-Every game I wanted to come out, but didn't.
-Every game that came out, but I didn't want.
-Every purchasing decision that was unappealing to me.
I'd leave the second one out, but I was thinking the same.

The big big tragedy for me is the fact that the FPS is the No.1 most popular genre.

Big-Budget AAA games that aren't cover shooters or first-person shooters with a multiplayer mode can no longer exist because of it. Genres that don't fit the criteria are now "AA" and get lower budgets and bad reviews because of it. (I say bad, when i really mean 7/10, but apparently 7 is bad now).

I'd hate to see genres like the 3rd person action-adventure become relegated to something only indies can realistically develop (Uncharted is a 3rd person cover shooter, don't kid yourself).

Oh and Square Enix began work on a new 3rd-person single-player Legacy of Kain action-puzzle solving game. They canceled it after 3 years of work, and my bet is due to the reasons above.(it's being replaced with an exclusively multiplayer F2P game set in the LOK universe).

So please, stop buying shooters. Please, please, please stop. You cause other genres to die with every CoD/BF game you play.

Don't get me wrong, the next-gen could see a return to the era when any genre was AAA-viable (the PS2) but i'm not holding my breath.

RMAH - game balance of a long awaited title gleefully sacrificed on alter of the twin greed gremlins, Nickel & Dime. Moribund.

Breath of Fire VI
Lost Planet 3

I would call out the fighting games, but it also helped newcomers into the genre, whether I liked the systems and gameplay or not.

Fuck MVC3 and SFIV. How dare you dumb down my gaems! >:-(

Fuck Crapcom:

Also (general list):

DLC becoming the default delivery of a full game
FPS nearly eliminating the viability of other genres
Push A to win
GTA IV
Skyrim PS3
On-Disk DLC
EA NFL exclusivity
Shitty DRM
Fucking F2P
Gears of War 2 buggy multi-player
MOBILE SEQUELS TO OUR FAVORITE GAMES
and a shit-load of others I'm forgetting to mention

As much as I'd like to defend Bethesda (Skyrim is and will always be one of my favorite games from this gen), the PS3 debacle was unforgivable. And after all the shit we went through, the only thing we got was half-off DLC for a week. That's a fucking crime.
