Oh yeah i was only adding to what you said to have a bigger vision of how it work. That actually sounds like it could be great. I misspoke earlier, I was just trying to explain how RPG elements can function without a traditional XP bar. Didn't mean to claim that's officially how the mechanics work.
Level scaling is the worst thing to plague the RPG genre in recent years, and in fact makes many games that are labelled as RPG's stop feeling like an RPG.
I would not call my taste great, but thanks for the trust buddyGymWolf has been very active in this thread. Can't blame when the man has great taste for games. We can only hope Crimson Desert delivers.
Not gonna lie that sound a bit dreadful to me but i don't like the xenoblades games so...I'll have to see how it all comes together. I was expecting this to be more like Xenoblade Chronicles X, sort of an offline MMO thing.
It's more like RDR2, you can unlock more health, more stamina, perks from finding talisman, longer bullet time, etc.I don't want level scaling. I want to progress through zones that have level ranges. All while my character becomes more powerful through a traditional JRPG-like leveling system.
That was my expectation at least. Hearing it's not that put the brakes on my hype for now. Maybe the game surprises me in spite of not being that, but I won't know until I read reviews and see more gameplay videos.
These weapons have already been shown in trailers.Last one is the more exciting to me, finding tech that turn a weapon into a traversal method or that add cool special effects to weapons? I would cream myself if that is real...these are the type of rewards that make exploration worthy.
And the broken bridge thing aswell.
So you think everything in my spoiler is true? Even hunting sea monsters with a ship? These weapons have already been shown in trailers.
The sword with the blue spirit knight and the spear to launch from the ground for traversal.
This whole leak has been known for 2 months.
And after seeing the features trailers, where a lot of those life features were confirmed, I have no doubt it's true now.
So you think everything in my spoiler is true? Even hunting sea monsters with a ship?
Actually, no. I missed it because I was getting quoted by multiple people.Did you read my other post about progression? I think it sound more fun than just getting xp and levelling up but i understand other people have different taste.
Yeah i know it exist in that game, but sometimes i join the "too good to be true" crowd so it still sound absurd for a game to have all this stuff even if i should not be surprised at this point. This is a system that exists in Black Desert Online, but it has not yet been officially confirmed.
Skill seems very varied...Actually, no. I missed it because I was getting quoted by multiple people.
The blacksmith sounds good.
What are "skills" in this game? Are there active ones and passive ones? (e.g., sword thrust, multi-slash, strength boost, defense boost, etc.)
If the game has a passive progression curve like Breath of the Wild and its sequel then I will not like the it. I did not enjoy those games.
Probably. So you think everything in my spoiler is true? Even hunting sea monsters with a ship?
Yeah i share some of these doubts, somewhere on reddit i read that the game has both legacy dungeons and small dungeons but take it as a grain of salt, they have been pretty secretive with dungeons in general but tbh, this game doesn't strike me as a dungeon heavy game like elden ring but i could be wrong.Probably.
They must be keeping that for the launch trailer.
I also hope for underwater exploration. We can already swim but underwater has not been confirmed.
My only doubts about the game is story, how large the big dungeons will be (Zelda shrine in scope ? Or more like Elden Ring or true temples like in OoT ?), and if progression systems will be good, with good rewards for exploration (not like BotW and TotK I hope).
Also the game won't have a difficulty settings, so I am a bit worried about the game being too easy. I need a bit of challenge and it could ruin the entire game if there's not.
At this point I'm just waiting for an official confirmation that the game is being directed by Peter Molyneux.
Minor upgrades to health, stamina and gear through exploration vs something like Dragon's Dogma and Elden Ring where progression is dependent on fighting enemies to grow stronger. What do you mean with passive progression?
The thought of overgearing for tough encounters is always a plus for me. Sometimes mechanics don't always click for me on boss fights, and coming back when you're stronger is the way to go.Minor upgrades to health, stamina and gear through exploration vs something like Dragon's Dogma and Elden Ring where progression is dependent on fighting enemies to grow stronger.
Umm it is already confirmed that bosses gave you new skills and loot.Minor upgrades to health, stamina and gear through exploration vs something like Dragon's Dogma and Elden Ring where progression is dependent on fighting enemies to grow stronger.
Same, hype up people on this game man. This alone is better than anything most AAA companies have been producing in the last decade. I got to play the Gamescom demo, it had things to tweak and some janky but it already showed a lot of promise. And I want this to succeed just to show Capcom that they should have given more love to Dragon's Dogma as an IP.I would not call my taste great, but thanks for the trust buddy
When i'm passionate about a game i try to make everyone as passionate as me and i'm having a dead day at work so i have time to spare.
I'd not be suprised if defeating regular enemies gives you some of the resources needed to upgrade your gear.Umm it is already confirmed that bosses gave you new skills and loot.
Not sure what you get by beating small enemies since there is no xp, but i guess you fight many small ememies during exploration to reach a point with slmething interesting in it or to solve a sidequest so even if you don't get xp from them, you still get new stuff for defeating them, just not xp for every single one you kill.
The stats improvement are only related to finding artifacts or improving gear at the blacksmith but there is much more to do to get stronger
Article: Even most enemies are made to drop materials, rather than completed gear to encourage seeking out hidden gear or even crafting our own. All of our weapons are free from the curse of durability that also tends to come with many open world games, as a way to limit the strongest gear.
Dude share some thoughts! How was the combat feel? For reference I love that in Dragon's Dogma, which imo has the best combat in any open-world game.I got to play the Gamescom demo,
Oh man don't give me hopes. And I want this to succeed just to show Capcom that they should have given more love to Dragon's Dogma as an IP.
Thank god for that. All of our weapons are free from the curse of durability
Skill seems very varied...
Elementals moves for bows and sword and martial arts, like adding explosions or ice or thunder effects to some moves (with physics so thunder work better in water etc.)
Straight up new moves like 100 hokuto punches, wrestling moves, new combos for weapons, body slams from high place, briefly summoning the ghost of a boss for a supermove etc.
Life stuff like fishing etc.
Traversal methods like the mantle, being able to use the grappling hook on combat or traversal or the palm strikes to get in high places
And more stuff that i'm forgetting.
It looks vastly more meaty and varied than zelda progression with the breakable loot and heros abilities with cooldown or generic armours with +attack that you can get from food.
And most important, unlike the new zeldas, you don't get ALL the cool abilities after a 3 hours tutorial level, you get cool stuff even close to endgame between mechs and dragons and stuff you get from bosses.
What do you mean with passive progression? Like just stat progression? It doesn't seems the case here.
P.s. you have 2 alternative characters with their weapons skills etc. Just to add variety.
Idk how much the relase build will be different but the combat is not bad, but the feedback wasn't to the same degree as DD. It has some oomph but things that were annoying were the impact frames on some moves were just too much that the game looked like it came to a halt for a split-second. The other thing, but has been already addressed by Pearl Abyss, is the amount of particles everywhere. It was just too much and this is a recurring topic brought up by everyone who tested the game, and gladly, it is tweakable in the settings from the latest interviews.Dude share some thoughts! Hell yeah thanks man, that's music to my ears. I don't mind a bit too much of hitstop, and having so many possibilities in combat sounds super fun to me even if it might be a bit confusing during the first few hours.Idk how much the relase build will be different but the combat is not bad, but the feedback wasn't to the same degree as DD. I wouldn't say it is a direct competiton to DD's combat, but it has its own flavour. A few tweaks here and there and it will feel great overall. The thing that will get some people filtered are the controls and the amount of commands and actions you can do in combat, from grappling moves, to weapon switching, to then using a few different weapon skills, and finally, throwing a few magic spells here and there. It can be overwhelming the amount of freedom will get with the combat, but that was because the build had already a bunch of skills and weapons unlocked by default. I expect the final build to be considerably better and smoother.
As someone who is an AVID fan of Dragon's Dogma combat, this is different but a certified banger nonetheless.
The controls scheme have been changed from the demo, they said that controls continued to evolve for all this time...Idk how much the relase build will be different but the combat is not bad, but the feedback wasn't to the same degree as DD. In the demo they threw people in the middle of an already advanced character with a lot of moves unlocked, you are gonna get all that shit gradually in the final game.Hell yeah thanks man, that's music to my ears. Damn I'm getting hyped.
Very true!In the demo they threw people in the middle of an already advanced character with a lot of moves unlocked, you are gonna get all that shit gradually in the final game.
Demos can be a double edged sword in games with many systems.
I personally might not be feeling wellVery true!
I think I might get the 20th and 23rd off work.![]()
Yeah but when we evoke legacy dungeons, some people picture Elden Ring scope. But legacy dungeons could also be the size of the shrines in Zelda… and small dungeons even smaller.Yeah i share some of these doubts, somewhere on reddit i read that the game has both legacy dungeons and small dungeons but take it as a grain of salt, they have been pretty secretive with dungeons in general but tbh, this game doesn't strike me as a dungeon heavy game like elden ring but i could be wrong.
Where has it said anywhere that there's a villian behind the artifacts? All they said in the deep dives is that they're objects from The Abyss that fell to Pywel. No rebuilding the greymayne is just the incipit of the story, the focus should be on these magic artifacts falling from the sky abyss that give powers to people and the story should be about that and the villain behind these artifacts or something like that.
I mean, i think it's implied, isn't not? i doubt the story doesn't have a main villain that is related to these artifacts.Where has it said anywhere that there's a villian behind the artifacts? All they said in the deep dives is that they're objects from The Abyss that fell to Pywel.
I think you could be spot on.Yeah but when we evoke legacy dungeons, some people picture Elden Ring scope. But legacy dungeons could also be the size of the shrines in Zelda… and small dungeons even smaller.
In an interview, Will Powers said there was some kind of dungeons but specify that he didn't want to really say it because there's a lot of expectations coming with that term.
I personally think that the dungeons will be in the middle ground in terms of size, but I don't expect very intricate level design or big castle dungeons a la Elden Ring.
Most of the castles we've seen are cities, or siege battle.
I bet those big towers are legacy dungeons, and the abyss islands are the shrines.
We'll also have seen a lot of ruins in the plains, in the mountains, but it remains unknown if we can hope for « dungeons » characteristics in those.
At least, the game will be varied and will have a lot of interiors (I'm sure almost all the houses and building are enterable), which was another miss in the last Zelda games.
It's possible there's going to be a Sauron type figure, but I don't know, currently with their focus on big faction type encounters I'm more inclined to think it's just going to end up being another faction in the story.I mean, i think it's implied, isn't not? i doubt the story doesn't have a main villain that is related to these artifacts.
To quote the deep dive:
hostile forces roam the land, and high above, in the realm known as the abyss, a growing mystical inbalance, threatens to push the world into chaos.
I think there is someone or something causing the inbalance.
Another bit from an npcs talking to kliff:
The abyss holds what the world itself can't contain, which is why they plot to open the gate.
So at the very least we have an evil faction trying to fuck shit up (or a single dude that indentify as they\them)
Didn't we saw like a magic villain that didn't looked human in the deep dives? It's possible there's going to be a Sauron type figure, but I don't know, currently with their focus on big faction type encounters I'm more inclined to think it's just going to end up being another faction in the story.
Those were just boss enemy encounters, one was an enemy that split into 3, another was a mob boss called the "Reed Devil" that I believe they said you fight during a side quest.Didn't we saw like a magic villain that didn't looked human in the deep dives?
I vaguely remember a flying dude with a mask flyind around kliff in a cutscene...
I hope we have something more than just human factions in such a fantasy ass game.
I'm rewatching the deep dives to see if i can find him, it looked like more than a boss to me...Those were just boss enemy encounters, one was an enemy that split into 3, another was a mob boss called the "Reed Devil" that I believe they said you fight during a side quest.
We already knew this, but I haven't seen it yet. Elemental arrows reacting to water. You can even stand on the ice you create.
I loved it in The Last of Us Part 2 when I'd use a melee weapon and it would break after a few attacks. You can't beat realism.Thank god for that.
Random enemies also drop gear. It's common gear it seems. You'll see a piece of equipment leave the body of the enemy right after being killed, wether it's a helmet or a chest armor. And sometimes you'll loot the equipment on the body, classic way.I'd not be suprised if defeating regular enemies gives you some of the resources needed to upgrade your gear.
Edit:
Seems to be the case.
