Cronos: The New Dawn |OT| Survive The Future. Salvage The Past.

How can you dicktease yourself with a soundtrack thats supposedly this good.

THAT to me is a spoiler.
It's called edging, pussy

top gun deal with it GIF

Hospital area is a little overrated, wall enemies were annoying.
I'll resume later and end it.

Game is good and not disappoint. 👍

+
Cats
Atmosphere on point
Art direction is very cool
Story / lore is interesting
Soundtrack is great and fits
Gameplay favours smart gunplay and use of mechanics

+/-
Characters and enemies are ok, not amazing
Puzzles and exploration are the usual
Melee feels weak and weapons, upgrades or perks are the basic

It's a solid game, not a legendary achievement

I don't find the game itself difficult, but i can see people easily struggling a bit. I had to load an older save because i had no bullets to fight a certain boss and his area had almost none.
Enemy merge sometimes is not avoidable in the middle of chaos. Also they capped the upgrades. For example i can't choose to fully invest in suit's health if i want to.

Why did this need to be a video? "I like Dead Space a lot, Cronos is kinda like Dead Space, you should play it." What is this dude doing with his hair as well? Turn the camera off
He always does these type of videos after he finishes a game. Regarding his current hair and mustache... It was a charity goal so...yeah, its not always like this

I'm still on the intro with the Rorschach

But I have only one important question for the Pro Bros

Quality or Performance?

Also this game just feels already like it's going to be fucking amazing. Great set of options Bloober hooked up too.

Game Over. B rank and ending. Hard difficulty unlocks a funny skin but i'm not replaying it.
Well Well Well...

I enjoyed the game. Travelers don't forget that 🐈‍⬛ 🐈 safety is a priority!

Fucking game has crashed like 6 times in the first 90 minutes on my PC. I found some potential fixes online, but if they don't work I'm going to have to either give up or grab a PS5 or Switch 2 copy. Really digging what I played so far.

She is recording travel log so if she dies then successor who come after her can finish the mission…..it makes sense in context of the story.
Yeah, I don't know why this is hard for people to pick up. That SkillUp YouTuber said he didn't like how stiff the voice acting was without even considering it might be intentional.

They meant sound like machine thats focus on their mission, this so obvious.

This is basically 2B in NieR Automata sounded like at beginning of the game.

Just wrapped up the campaign. Awesome game and a must-play for every survival horror fan. It cements Bloober as an S-tier horror dev.

Combat is punchy, gory, and feels great to play. The difficulty is overblown - some mid to late-game encounters pose a challenge, but only a few times did I actually starve for ammo, mostly relying on the sword with charged headshots. The seeming lack of a dodge isn't an issue, as the game is tuned around it. The monster-merging mechanic is a nice gimmick but far less significant than it first appears, since it can be easily interrupted. And while it's great that there's mostly no monster respawn during backtracking, I never felt inclined to burn bodies after clearing the way forward.

The harsh inventory limit was never an issue for me wither, mitigated by suit upgrades, but it doesn't make much sense and creates a weird juxtaposition with how the Traveler can "spawn" its weaponry. That's clearly just an animation cop-out, but I'll chalk it up as nitpicking.

Overall, the old-school survival horror design perfectly matches the cassette-retro, '80s brutalism aesthetic.

Speaking of which, the concept and high-level direction are FANTASTIC. Environmental decay makes the setting feel less transformative for someone who grew up in '80s Poland than The Medium did, but it still adds tons of value. I absolutely loved exploting every nook and cranny of the setting, and the tiny details in props that most players will never notice. The vibe is 10/10, elevated by simply incredible audio. While some of the environmental body horror gets old rather fast, certain areas are so well-made I was playing on the edge of my seat.

Not everything is up to this standard. Operating anomalies makes no sense lore-wise and feels like an unnecessary, gamey, poor man's environment-geometry manipulation mechanic - at its worst when used as a way to respawn explosive barrels. Gravity jumps aren't much better and are often highly disorienting, since the game always locks the camera in a certain direction upon landing.

The protagonist, despite sounding a lot like Selene from Returnal (to the point I was wrongly convinced it was the same actress), does a great job - but the Warden steals the show.

The story is mostly great until about three-quarters in, before a somewhat disappointing finale with some loose ends that feel like they could be addressed in a sequel.

I'd NG+ this on hard if I had the time. Since I don't, I watched the true ending on YouTube - and it's just weird and confusing.

I've only played two games in my life in Polish, and this could have been the third, as it practically begs for the somehow absent Polish VO. If it ever comes in a future update, NG+ it shall be.

Nice job, Bloober. Day one on whatever you do next.

8.5/10

Amazing post brotha, agree with everything (minus the ending since I haven't finished it yet).

Again, It's pretty funny AND weird that the guy that created Dead space managed to fook it up so badly with Callisto protocol even though he had a AAAA budget with Bloober team actually creating a real spiritual successor® to it with their reduced budget...
In the end, it's all about the vision and trying to cater to a specific demographic that knows what it wants (in stark contrast to the Callisto protocol which tried to cater to...everyone hence its mid reception).

Yeah, Cronos in comparison is just oozing creativity. It's a stronger concept, with much better writing, and lands as a well-crafted love letter to survival horror, executed to completion for under 100 million złoty, which is like a tenth of a modern-day AAA budget. I never hated on Bloober (maybe except after that SH2R combat trailer, which was, by the way, 100% fucked by Konami, good lord...), but I love to see them mature to stand alongside the big boys. The Silent Hill 1 remake is gonna be insane.

Fired it up late last night and only got through fiddling with the options (which are excellent), watching the intro and then I walked about eight feet forward :messenger_grinning_smiling:

The atmosphere is captivating as all hell. The tone and ambience is on point. I really like the voice of the protagonist. If I hadn't known it was a woman beforehand I really would've been pleasantly surprised. These are the types of female protags I dig. It's like Samus in Dead Space.

Finished it after 18 hours, perfect lenght. Damn that was good. I liked my ending aswell. Still lots of unanswered questions, but man, i really want a sequel. So much potential here. Game was amazing. Gonna wait for a few patches maybe they can improve performance and definitely doing another new game + hard playthrough with different weapons this time. I will be there for Bloober games day 1

Do we know if the game has different outcomes depending on the dialogue options ?

Regarding the performance now, I know you're on PC brother but on the PS5 (and even the Pro) there's framerate dips whenever there are nests and especially when there's a nest+ flashlight combo, my LG C2's VRR counter showed 46fps during one of those encounters/scenarios.

There's three different endings that I know of and one can only be obtained on NG+

Just completed the game. In total I clocked in 15 hours..

I am a little dissapointed it wasn't longer purely because I was expecting more things to be explained, but I do also like the open endedness of not everything being explained so I'm torn.

Overall this is in my top 5 survival horror games of all time. It's very close to perfect, has some very intense and creepy moments, lots of gore, tough survival mechanics. The story was the highlight for me, really surprisingly good with a nice reveal 3/4 of the way through that really elevated it from an 8 to a 9/10.

It's absolutely not for everyone I imagine, the oldschool gameplay and somewhat linear experience will no doubt put people off but I personally loved every minute.

Im almost at the end. Finished the hospital boss the second time around. Used the homing gun on its weak spots.

Just stoppin in to say this game is fucking amazing and I'm blown the fuck away so far. It doesn't even feel like a Dead Space successor, it really feels like the next step forward thanks to that franchise.

I want a sequel and more already and I'm still at the beginning. This shit is SPECIAL.

See, now you understand why I've been edging like a G.

Yep this bozo is having some mid life crisis.

I left a comment it's time to cut the hair and look like a dad with kids which he is. He looks like a bitch made version of colonel mustard.

Okay, the hospital and a bit the road to the hospital, now this is more like it.

I think I'm playing in this area for 3 hrs and I think that I still have some to go. Amazing so far, finally the levels are more intricate, but I also think I'll be at the end road soon after this.

Came back to say if Clair 33 didn't exist this would've been my GOTY easy.

Still thinking about how good it all is. Bloober are peaking. Could be their hit their stride with SH2R and this similar to fromsoft with Demons and dark souls.

Agreed. This game has my Papi Gonzito seal of approval 🤣

Finished it last night. Ended up liking the combat a lot more in the end with all the different weapons and just getting a little more comfortable with moving around the combat arenas.
The story got pretty damn convoluted and I had to watch a brief explanation from YT that wtf even happened. The game doesn't explain a lot of the stuff going on in the world specifically, but leaves it to interpretation.

It also took me close to 19 hours to beat the game, but I found all the cats, comics, weapons and all that.

Thank God, I'm not alone! 😅
I tend to overthink timetravel stories all the time. And with all what's happening in the end I was completely overwhelmed. I watched 3 explanations on yt and I'm still not sure I got everything...🙈

I think the problem comes in the way Cronos tells its story. Not only is it quite vague with everything, but it leaves some very important key plot points into random notes found throughout the game, which is something I dislike immensely. Notes should be optional reading material which slightly go more into some character backgrounds or a locations background, instead of having major story related stuff in them.

Time to rinse your dirty Mindseye taste out of your mouth!

Finished the hospital and the same feeling, it's the best section so far.

A bit of a letdown the end boss, which was a bit easier than the rest of the area.

I think after this it's the last level I fear.

looking at bloobers marketing social media accounts and I think this game has actually sold quite well.
This game is not crazy high budget and they didn't do pointless expensive marketing......this game doesn't need to sale like COD to make profit.

yep. I posted earlier in the thread about it, I think it will have a very long tail into the halloween season.

Ugh, died at the final boss. Some fights are real annoying man. Enjoyed it all the way till the end tho. Im at 20 hours. I'll finish the fight tomorrow.

I finally finished the game I enjoyed my time with it. Great atmosphere, good gameplay and inventory management.

One of my issue with the game is the enemy design. Unfortunately they are not scary and kinda boring, especially the concept should be about body horror which flesh merging together but it felt not all that gory and very tame as if devs scared to make it too gory.

Another issue is most of the time you know there is going battle since you see all red barrels around which felt very artificial and kinda ruins sense of fear because you are fully prepare to fight.

Again it has some issues but still very solid game, easy 8.5/10

If you have the patience to read the notes and listen to audio logs and connect the dots, then almost everything is explained, but for your average player, it must all be super confusing.

Someone had a good theory and good proof on what The Collective actually is, what their goal is and how the Traveler fits into all that.
And honestly it makes everything make so much sense.

The disease, or The Change as it is called in the game, started when they dug an insanely deep hole (over 14 km deep) at the steelworks, which caused a large explosion.
The disease spread very fast through the populace and they all started to merge with one another, once this went on for long enough, all the merged people created a form called The Collective.
Those infected which didn't manage to merge with the larger microbiant, became The Orphans. They are lost and desperately want to be part of the larger bio-organism.

The Collective is incredibly intelligent and for it to become even more powerful, they need more minds or Essence as it's called in the game.
So The Collective creates The Travelers, they create their weapons, their suit and even the ability to create time rifts are all from The Collective.
They give the Travelers a Vocation, which is basically a holy journey, to go into the world, find the essences which The Collective has chosen, and merge them with them through The Terminus.
This way The Collective gains more essence and keeps getting stronger.
The need to travel back in time is so you can harvest the essence of people who are out of reach from the collective, essentially those who died before getting infected or tuned into orphans.

To me this all makes sense, it also explains why the travelers feel and sound like empty husks, until you carry an essence for too long and their personality bleeds into you.

The Warden aka The Pathfinder ruined everything for The Collective as he abandoned his Vocation once he became incredibly infatuated with Weronika and his entire purpose become to preserve her, which is another can of worms.
