Cronos: The New Dawn |OT| Survive The Future. Salvage The Past.

Yea I don't know what you're into specifically but just pointing it out.
I say this a lot if you know what I mean.

Immediately hoped in new game+, which is rare for me.
Yeah, hard is only if you want to see the other ending, which confused me more, lol, the game is perfectly balanced on normal without any upgrades.

Hope they continue like this, looking forward to that SH1 remake.

Yeah I just went to YT to watch ending C.

Best ending for sure.

The second main area Steelworks looks insane. I'm only a little into it and swiftly got my sack put in a vice, combat has definitely ramped up in a good way. That gun upgrade that shows enemy health and/or if they're alive is a cool way to ratchet up tension even more, clever idea. Also just realized guns penetrate and hit a double headshot. Also also love that there's a dev who was like...exploding barrels rule, let's make ones that can be respawned and encourage kiting enemies towards them all the time. I'm a sucker for blowing shit up in games.

Few hours more in and yup, still fucking killer.

This thread is devolving into me sucking Bloober's dicks but...

Steelworks is a hall of famer horror game level in my book. The intricate level design, the art, the encounters, the variety, fuck me, this level ruled. The way they handle the safe rooms, loop backs and everything is classic RE tier good imo.

Also the environmental story telling is fucking savage. Bloober hit some really chilling nerves with the art in this game for me.

Yeah, even though it left with more questions, I sort of like once in a while a more simplistic, minimalistic ending.

I want a sequel to this tomorrow if it can, thanks. Until then, Silent Hill F better be up there, I think I'll replay Dead Space Remake again, it's on sale on Steam, played it at launch on EA app.

You ain't kidding broski, for me personally, it really is one of the best survival horror games I've played in the last 10+years since EVERYTHING about it is GOOD, the art direction, the combat, the OST and especially the level design are all top-notch.

Is it derivative? Sure, but it's so well made that I don't care, it's basically a love letter to everything survival horror and it just goes to show that the devs really did their homework.

The only problem with a potential sequel ? the fact that it won't be as mysterious/have the same sense of awe since the mysterious lore/setting is already established - same thing that happened with Dead space btw, once you knew about the whole marker/"scientology" thing from the 1st game, you just went through the motions in the next ones.

Brilliant, brilliant game

Just got through the Hospital and I think I'm close to the end.

Maaaaaan, they're insane if a follow up sequel or a prequel is not in the works already. There's SO MUCH POTENTIAL in what they can do next and maybe explore the homeworld of the travelers, their culture, lore, explain why they even care about humanity etc. etc. . Holy shit what a game, Bloober, don't you dare do a "one and done" thing from such an incredible concept, original ideas and universe.

Just arrived in the hospital. How far am I?

Hospital is a LONG level and after that, you have a whole another level which is even longer than the hospital.

Then, there's the "final" bit which is short-ish (about 2 hours long)

Anyway, just finished it :
PRtfJRqATofSktCb.jpg

I took my sweet time and I enjoyed every G'damn second of it - and the gameplay time above doesn't involve trying different battle scenarios/backtracking etc, my real gameplay time is about 32 hours.
My OCD got triggered though since apparently I missed 2 cats even though is searched inch by inch every G'damn corner of every room in every level (hence the long gameplay time) and yet...

What can I say, great, great game, one of the best survival horror experiences so far, a very confident title that knows both its target audience and what it tries to do.
Difficulty is way, way, WAY over exaggerated but, in an era where people like their games being on autopilot that's to be expected.
This is OG survival horror, you HAVE to pay attention to the inventory and what to bring with you, you HAVE to make (almost) every bullet count, you HAVE to be careful with the materials and WHEN to craft shit, you HAVE to choose the right phylacteries and make a choice when you have to drop one (there's also an achievement/trophy for a VERY specific combo) - pretty normal stuff for people that know how to properly hold a joypad and have played any other survival horror game in the last...15 years.

As for the story, let's just say that it explains (almost) fuck and all in all of its endings (3 in total) but...that's also a good thing since they can keep they mystery and awe for future sequels.

8.5/10 from me

Just in time for SH F :)

Uh have any of you let her idle for a while? The essences start "talking". In one a distressed woman says:

"My boy, my poor baby boy, why are you doing this? Why?"

Edit: Oh...it's Lidia Marzec

Also just noticed a cool detail. Lidia Marzec's data entry is corrupted because her Phyl...whatever receptacle had been sitting for a long time and the Warden explains that essences get corrupted over time if not "in motion".

Loooool I just got to the hospital and I cannot comprehend how fucking savage the art direction and levels are in this game. I literally laughed because I was in disbelief.

Episode 7 Wow GIF by Wrexham AFC

Regarding essences

Deleting essences is fucked up. The UI prompts and sound design made me feel straight up guilty

The tiny detail of the enemy health indicator on the gun is one of the most paranoia-inducing mechanics I've played in a Horror game in a while. I'm constantly crawling around with my gun drawn checking every biomass and corpse lol.

Play this right after Cronos if you haven't already. One of the most unique and extremely underrated games.
That's a very Giger-esque game if I ever saw one, I love the art. I knew about it since it launched, but didn't quite get to it.

How's the gameplay without saying too much? You have to run and hide from enemies type of survival, or can you fight them?

I loved the game for its art direction and atmosphere but, a good game it is not.

It's basically a walking sim with some of the most obtuse and stupid puzzles I ever seen in a game and some FEW shooting bits here and there.

basically it's a 10 out of 10 game in the art department, a 3 out of 10 everything else, It's really THAT bad.

I would only recommend it if you can find it for 10 Eurodollars max

My brother in Christ (or Satan, or Allah) it's a mediocre game through and through with no replay value whatsoever, but more than that, I wouldn't even categorize it as a game but as a "tech demo".

Again, you're barking at the wrong tree brother since I loved both the esthetics AND the ending/lore, it's just that there's no "game" whatsoever in this "game" (aka it's extremely light on gameplay and that's putting it mildly).
It's a good concept that unfortunately, failed to meet expectations which is reflected both in sales (then again, it was on GP so that was expected) and public perception.

As an "experience" is a 6.5/7 out of 10, as a "game" though...it's a 4 at most.

Please don't make me slap you with a salami
still love you though😘

This game has the same amount of gameplay as dead space or evil within or silent hill 2 remake.

It doesn't have the same amount as say a resident evil 4 or 2.

The gunplay is as satisfying as dead space too.

The only thing it lacks is more creature variety but the bosses are epic.

Keep your salami to yourself!

I'm pretty early on and can't form a definitive opinion yet but I'd agree, the game being >simple< in terms of mechanical complexity does not mean that the experience you get while playing the game isn't complex.
The level & encounter design and the atmosphere can be woven intricately despite say little enemy variety or simple gameplay mechanics.
There are a bunch of games that have a shit ton of gameplay mechanics but I don't feel shit while using any of them because it feels like the mechanics don't interact much, there is not a net of subtleties that influence each other that can be read, understood and manipulated.

My 2 sessions with Cronos so far I had a lot of fun with it, not the "shoot peng peng" kinda fun but fun in prediction encounters, sometimes being right, sometimes being off the mark, and feeling rewarded for making certain decisions that end up working in my favor, like what items to craft with my limited resources, how to use my ammo etc.

He's talking about Scorn

Edit: Uh I think, maybe I'm confused now 😐

My only issue with Cronos is I wish enemy designs were more scary and gruesome.

There are bloods and gore when you see corpses of normal people but when you actually fighting, there is not much gore.

Not being able to splatter a head is a minus against any game that has shooting. No matter how much I love it. When I shoot a head, it better go pop!

Yeah I would like a more gears of war even of enemies turning into chunks.

I know part of it is towing the M rated line so it isn't too gruesome, but I think limbs flying off is fair game for monsters or zombies.

In Resident Evil 2 Remake when you shoot Zombies face and half their face goes, it feels super satisfying.

Most horror games needs to have gore and scary and gruesome enemies.

Not related to Cronos but the gore in RE2R was so good and nuts, I was convinced that this was RE's direction going forward. It's like you had it right there, perfection...nope. Then we get that wet fart combat in RE8.

wait, are we talking about Cronos or Scorn here ?

This game plays me like a fiddle. I'm already freaked out by the atmosphere in the hospital and as I think it, a one-note John Carpenter synth pulse starts on top of it.

Wait til you get to the next level/stage, it'll be spoopy pants time...

Man, i already miss the game, kept me good company for 2 weeks straight, started a NG+ but...it's not hitting me the same way obviously, IMO, these games are meant to be played only once for the obvious reasons...

Best 60€ I've spent in the last few months

I've never played scorn. Looked like shit.

I thought we were talking about Cronos.

But keep in mind my reading capability on here sometimes is that of a guy with 4 extra chromosomes and a full diaper. Pardon my retardation if you meant Scorn sucks. Please proceed.

Exactly this is why I was very disappointed on these monsters in RE7
i-think-the-worst-part-of-re7-were-the-enemy-designs-the-v0-92mwab4ya4hd1.jpg

These guys just lot of nothing........I hope RE9 doesn't make the same mistake.
I'm worried about RE9. I'm awaiting gameplay footage proper of gunplay.

If it's just RE7 jump scares and awful enemies I can wait for a price drop lol. RE7 I platinumed but it's the worst RE game to me along with RE6.

I liked RE7's atmosphere and exploration but I just didn't liked the enemy design, if they can fix that in RE9 then I'm happy.

I'm generally a gameplay first kind of guy so that was the weakest part of 7. 8 for all its faults let me shoot shit regularly and I enjoyed it more.

RE2R
RE4R/RE4 original
RE1R
RE3R
RE8
RE7

My ranking for the ones I care about the most.

I'd say Cronos is on that RE3R level for me.
