Crypt of the Necrodancer is Terrible on PSN

Deathless mode run with Melody. The game just crashed with the error CE-34878-0.

I had just deleted and reinstalled the game since making this thread.

As funny as this may be, Unity is not to be blamed in any case. Unity is an engine that helps create cheap games at ease. The downside of that is that every non-programmer can make a game in Unity and write a garbage code without caring for optimization. It's the same with every game that is not optimized, however Unity gives the developers a "good enough for the time and money" illusion that some can get comfortable with.

I can actually make a game in Unity, and I am not a programmer in any means. My games will run like shit because I don't know optimization and will just use shit scripts or assets. My game will release on PS4 if I plan to. That won't make Unity bad, that'll just make the game publishing process bad, where games are "good enough" to release. It's the quality control that's bad.

Blame the creator, not the engine. Every engine can produce a garbage game. Unity just makes it easier with the quick porting.

Was about to say the same thing. People always want a scapegoat, regardless of what reality is. AAC runs great and it's unity.

Personally I really dislike developing in unity, but it can definitely produce great results... just depends how much work + love the dev puts into it.

Does the game have noticable input lag compared to the PC version?

I don't think so, but the game starts with a lag calibration tests based on audio and visual cues. Don't know what the net effect of it is but I haven't been bothered any.

PS4 has no input lag because the calibration test that Samemind mentioned will even tell you the lag in milliseconds.

Try rebuilding database on your ps4, it's worth a shot.

Yup just deleted the game and doing this again. I just really wish some other people would try doing some runs on PS4 and get back to me.

I've noticed that in the PS4 version while playing Bolt the screen will flicker each time an enemy dies, possibly due to the particle effect.

It's funny because I've experienced this same exact slowdown on PC, but no one else seems to suffer from it. So I figured playing the PS4 version would at least fix the problem, but it just seems to follow me around.

The game hasn't crashed yet, though.

I don't have Crypt, but on another game (q.u.b.e) I had an error that wouldn't let me get past the 'press start' screen, even after reinstall and rebuilding database... But disabling the internet connection did the trick. Might give that a try? Was the same errorcode, but that could mean nothing, since it just a generic 'an application has crashed' code.

This has become a disturbing trend in the indie scene.

Bad bad ports to ps4 and vita. And with vita very very late ports as well.

Its shitty all around.

Makes the game seem bad. Makes the dev look bad. Makes sonys store look poorly curated. Makes sonys hardware look bad.

And worst of all it makes the consumer upset.

It is no longer a random isolated game or two. There are enough of these garbage ports that Shu should at least acknowladge it.

Broforce PS4
Nuclear Throne PS4/Vita
Crypt of the PS4/Vita

They were all games given high profile psn release spots.

New n Tasty Vita - out now. Was majorly late.
Skullgirls vita - mega late
Terraria vita - was mega late?

There are more.

Also there are games that are much less egregious but have vita ports that totally fuck themselves up.

Look at The.Bit.Trip. There are certain parts where it hitches and stuff that make playing the game at the highest level pretty much impossible. Its an incredibly frustrating port.

We should make sure to reward the games ported properly, and not reward the games that have no optimization.

Cant believe that sony made a game with issues like broforce a ps+ game. What kind of message does that send?

Some are suggesting that might actually be a hardware error. Do you have the original HDD or did you switch it out?

I have the original hdd. I deleted the game, then rebuilt the database, then reinstalled the game.

I haven't had any issues so far since that. I was able to finish the daily, but I was playing really bad today. I only got one win in deathless mode. I'll keep this updated.

I've poured dozens of hours into the game and haven't experienced a single hiccup.

No disrespect to you, RoeBear, but sometimes people just get unlucky.
I don't know what caused your issue, but it sounds like a very isolated case.

It's a shame to see everyone in this thread reacting as if the PSN port is terrible (without having played it) when that couldn't be further from the truth.

That's because people would rather jerk their knees into oblivion than read a 2 page thread.
I have the game and love it. No problems for me.

I've had zero issues with mine, both on PS4 and Vita.

Sorry to hear of your troubles :-(

Also, this thread title is incredibly inflammatory, you yourself said you hadn't heard of anyone else experiencing these issues.

I was hoping to get the PSN version soon. While it runs perfectly fine on my laptop, I love the game enough to keep supporting it. But seriously is this the case? I feel like if it was terrible then people would've made more of a deal about it as the game has been out for over a month on PSN.

I think you may just be unlucky? Either way I'm gonna plug my PS4 controller into my laptop and play some more. Still trying to unlock Coda and beat Aria.

7 hours into the game without a single hiccup.

I'd recommend rebuilding your PS4 database, OP.

Not to scare you OP, but that error code started popping up on my launch PS4 about a year and a half ago. At first it seemed to plague only one game (I believe Wolfentein), but within a month it started crashing other games and eventually things like Netflix wouldn't even run for more than a few minutes, and often crashing right after booting up.

I remember thinking Wolfenstein was just a massive pile of unoptimized shit. Once other apps began crashing, I realized it wasn't the game itself.

Of course I'm not certain that my scenario is identical to yours, but in terms of what I experienced at first it's comparable. I'm pretty sure there were some threads on GAF about this error too, and plenty of people assumed it was the game they were playing before it became something you could Google with ease and realize it was a fairly widespread issue.

Now I'm worried. Did you find any solution? Did you have to get a new ps4?

wow really?

that's a damn shame. game's so good

got forgotten fast, weirdly. wish they put out more content

Y'know, I read they didn't hand out press review codes, which is a very weird decision for any publisher or developer wanting to get your game to be noticed.

I eventually put a new HDD in, but I also bought a new PS4 and used that one.

However, some google searching shows a general outline that was a widespread issue that was fixed with a firmware update, though I still see people suggesting they're afflicted by that error (either with one game or across all applications).

Hopefully it's a problem with the game itself and you don't see it crop up elsewhere. If you have the time and patience, maybe call Sony's support and see what they can offer you in terms of information.
