Crysis 2 - Full dev. build leaks online.

I doubt you'd get a more PR response out of EA or Crytek themselves, wow.
It's true, once you've gotten used to the new controls Crysis 2's suit abilities are much easier to combine or pull off in sequence. At first when I heard about the streamlining I thought it was to make it easier for console gamers but I challenge anyone to say that the new style isn't a lot smoother than the old one after they've gotten used to it.

Wait so the speed function is just sprinting in the console beta? No warp speed dash like in the original?

What the fuck, that was one of the most fun things to do :(

Maps are smaller now so it wouldn't fit the game design and the speed dash only lasted a few short seconds anyway.

Honestly from what I've seen of the footage. I don't think it would be as useful anymore, since the levels aren't as HUGE as the big forests in the original game.

I'm sure they're still big enough that a boost like that would be helpful in moments of intense combat and it was just one more thing that made you feel like an utter God. I loved how the world blurred around you and you zipped through it.

Smaller maps are bad enough as it is, don't take way all the toys you have within them!

armor mode now drains your suit energy.
maximum speed is gone but sprinting drains your energy. it's still totally slow.
strength gets activated for a short time when you kick a car or hold jump for a moment.

binocular is gone. there's a mode that tells you where you have to go, where ammo is, where or how you can surprise or avoid the enemy. it basically tells you how to play the game...

ummm, not liking the sound of that tbh, especially the no binocular part, that tells me areas well be pretty tight then, I used to like to take my time in Crysis and scout out my enemies by tagging them first using the binoculars.

I'll probably enjoy the game but this doesn't sound like the Crysis that we know and love on the PC atm.

:\

If I were to use a HR diagram to represent my hype, it would definitely fall into the white dwarf category. (i.e. Just about dead.)

So wait for the mods is what you're saying?

So its essentailly not Crysis anymore. Great.

Half the fun of the first one was... figuring out how to tackle each thing yourself... You had so many options and ways to approach things....

I like some of the streamlining, but a few of those changes are going too far. A mode instructing you where to go and how to attack?

People say they "consolized" it, but there is no technical reason why that had to happen. The original game could be played just fine on a gamepad.

I don't believe for a second that there isn't a console audience out there that couldn't handle that.

Are they aiming for the Call of Duty audience? If so, that's kind of funny considering Call of Duty started life on the PC and hasn't lost anything in its transition to consoles.

Still, I'm definitely on board for the game. I still believe it's going to be a great experience regardless of the changes made.

Edit - OK, I thought someone claimed the visor to be gone? Watching a video right now and the option is clearly still there. You can zoom in and mark targets just like the original.

I agree that the original Crysis controls could work fine on the DS3/360 pad but I'm guessing a lot of it has to do with it being set in smaller environments, I think they would of had to make much bigger compromises on the graphics engine on the consoles versions if the game was as open as the PC counter parts, becuase of this I do beleive that the consoles play a big part in the direction that this game as gone due to technical limitations.

Sorry if old or late,
EA and Cryteks official statement -

Crytek has been alerted that an early incomplete, unfinished build of Crysis 2 has appeared on Torrent sites. Crytek and EA are deeply disappointed by the news. We encourage fans to support the game and the development team by waiting and purchasing the final, polished game on March 22. Crysis 2 is still in development and promises to be the ultimate action blockbuster as the series’ signature Nanosuit lets you be the weapon as you defend NYC from an alien invasion. Piracy continues to damage the PC packaged goods market and the PC development community

Who cares if there is a baby-mode for console gamers who need their hands to be held.

As long as there is a Delta difficulty and options to turn off crosshairs and HUD, I am good to go.

Choice is good. As long as everything is optional I see no problem.

The environments sure as hell aren't tiny, though. They still appear to offer wide open areas to tackle.

They have been reduced in size, but it's not as if the game has become a corridor shooter.

In fact, I really like what I'm seeing. They've really captured the verticality of the city in that the buildings feel massive and the player quite small. There appear to be a lot of places accessible to the player as well and you certainly aren't limited to a simple forward push. There are a lot of tweaks in place to that seem to improve the fluidity of the gameplay. Sliding, a cover system, ledge grabbing, ground stomps, etc. all seem great. This isn't Call of Duty, there are still plenty of options.

I think the most significant impact this leak may have is on the PC players who were already skeptical. Now that it's leaked, they are drawing conclusions based on a few missing features and proclaiming the game to be console trash without even giving it a shot. Crysis was more than the sum of its parts, you know.

No more Delta difficulty,
it's called Supersoldier now :P

Well that's just put me off buying the game. I hope it's possible to disable this ... feature.

And that can mainly be attributed to the change in setting. Of course the change in setting was probably made for the consoles.:P as i highly doubt consoles could handle crysis huge wide-open forest levels.

But yeah after all the new footage I've seen, my hype has gone through the roof, as i was fairly skeptical before with the move to consoles and such and the footage shown was rather uninteresting.

This is a low blow. It almost feels like they are dumbing down the language as well. Its not like console players have a lower IQ or something so why in the hell would they name it something terrible?

I remember the MGS4 trailer, the American one compared to the Japanese one. Snake was a man questioning himself throughout the Japanese one, in the western one he was all macho. Is it cause the console demographic is more american compared to the PC crowd which is all over the place?

So, no big deal. There is still MUCH more graphical power to be shown in the final retail release.

I just checked a random video on Youtube and it looked really good (even with youtube compression/720p). I really can't wait to see what it looks like on Ultra. If this game was priced correctly ($50), I'd probably jump day 1. I'll probably end up waiting for the 50% off sale before grabbing it.

You can't really blame them (as well as people who downloaded the leaked version to try it). The whole Crysis 2 advertisement is directed toward console gamers (X360 especially); all videos were either from multiplayer portions of the game or singleplayer with lots of more or less scripted corridor-shooter sections, and almost none open world sections that were the first Crysis' flagships. We still haven't even seen official videos or screenshots of the game running at highest settings, only on "console settings". It's no wonder that people are curious and/or that they are quickly coming to conclusion that the game was "consolified" (is that the right word? >_>)

No the consoles couldn't handle it, which why we didn't get a true sequel based on the original's ending.

It does make sense based on the character. As far as I know, you aren't Delta Force soldier anymore like the original and are just a regular solder with a nanosuit.

It seems to be an internal build. (As i been told)
My theory of being a third party QA office who leaked the build is bogus. :0

I'm not gonna download Crysis 2 Early Build, I even plan on buying it for at most $50, but I'll be damned if this isn't delicious irony for releasing BARELY any info about the PC version, what with EA making Crytek consolize the damn engine for Christ sake. They deserved it for shunning the PC market up until recently, but even then I do feel bad that this happened.

Read: If you're gonna make a multi-platform game for PC make sure you treat all your customers right for their game system of choice.

On the plus side it's restored my faith in the game. All the videos thus far have made the graphics look flat and undetailed. Soon as I saw the PC footage on youtube I was like "yup, that's Crysis".

Yeah, I finally got to see some videos this morning and man does it look nice. Shame attempting to run it on my laptop would most likely made it explode. Looks like PS3 for me or if there is something really horrendous, I guess the 360. I'm not paying for Live, but then again all I want is SP anyway.

Where could I find such a deal?

Expired a long time ago, and I think it might have been UK only. Last year EA offered two separate 25% off deals which happened to be compatible with each other (and Crysis 2).

It's just mind boggling that it's only running medium. I think most games would kill for looks like that at maximum.

Have Crytek talked about whether the game will have Steamworks?

I know, I can't believe this is what medium looks like, can't wait for the maxed out DX11 shots to shut the 'it's been consolised' crowd up. Especially since we've seen what CE3 can do from all those tech demos.
