Yes, it's the iOS MLP game. No, it's not explained at all and yes, it's a terrible comic.
He didn't cancel the comic. His word choice was poor but he ended the Ethan stories and refocused the comic on the Gamers. The actual reboot-part, where Ethan and friends come back, isn't happening for a while.

Well, he made me laugh so I guess he succeeded. I doubt that the type of laughter that he inspired was intentional though. Oh well.
That new strip is...par for the course, I guess. And +1 for Nedroid, fantastic series.
On the subject of webcomic preferences, am I the only one who isn't crazy about Penny-Arcade? Never found it particularly funny, not a fan of the characters, and the overly verbose nature of some of the accompanying blog posts strike me as self-indulgent.

Right there with you, Penny-Arcade is certainly not bad in any sense of the word but it can only rarely be considered as great. XKCD is kinda the same in that regard. It's never downright dull but some/most of the comics require you to know some obscure (math) trivia to actually be somewhat funny.

I find that most comics have at least a few good ones among them. Nedroid is on a rather consistently higher level though. But then so are many others.
I do agree with the "after X times, kill it" approach though. There are limits to what a limited set of characters can do and remain funny.

I was hesitant to go into this topic as I knew that GAF is hating on a lot of webcomics. I allways thought it was a general dislike, but man CAD and it's Author is just all kinds of wrong. I mean, not being funny isn't a reason for someone to be hated, but being outright racist, an egomanial douche, and sexist to no end... it just boggles the mind.
But still, in comparison to that Ork "rape to save her" comic, CAD is harmless. Bad but harmless.
Personally, even though I make my own comics, I rarely read online webcomics. Outside of cyanide and happyness and phd comics which I find very amusing and entertaining.

That and it's still better than most out there. It's still consistently at least okay.
My personal favorite online strip is Hark, a Vagrant! Hits all the right buttons for me.
My problem with Hark! A Vagrant is that unless you're a history/lit buff a lot of the (earlier) jokes will fly over your head, although the dialogue and art are still funny even if you don't know the reference (e.g. "Ooh Mr. Darcy"). Also her updating schedule is really erratic.

She does a lot of non-history stuff too. Her journal comics are great, and the Mystery Solving Teens are probably some of my favorite characters ever, webcomic or otherwise.

SMBC is probably the second most underrated comic out there (giving 1st place to Order of the Stick).
I like XKCD, but I think SMBC does that shtick way better.

I love all the strips where they exaggerate things in a legends of yore style, or I don't know how to describe it, really.
Penny Arcade is mostly at it's best when it hams the dialogue up.

Fuck yes I love BotchedSpot! It's one of three comics I follow regularly on my RSS feed.
Also, I like that Penny Arcade spinoff called The Trenches. Really funny, but plays up the whole "testers are treated like shit" thing too much.

The "Best day ever!" line is a quote from the Gameloft game. Along with Twilight's "Oooooh, pretty" at random times for no reason (which is a direct quote from Pinkie in an actual episode (her reaction to Rarity's scarf in Dragonshy))
There are many more funny things he could have done in parodying Gameloft's game from the standpoint of source accuracy, or their ridiculous prices for things, but instead he picks a generic joke that works for any touch based game, making the ponies seem like a ploy for popularity, when he himself isn't even a fan (I assume, or GAF would have had a topic mocking him for it)

I guess you could just go through the thread that introduced most of us to Buckley and his shit.
C&H's repetitiveness doesn't come from characters but from the set-up and theme. After reading so many of them you can guess the punchline and joke structure. I think PBH had the most consistent level of hilarity because the author challenged himself to move beyond just making the most shocking or "cute meets cruel" thing possible.
This comic is actually just the thought, "you know how movies about the past are so historically inaccurate?" but it's set up and drawn and presented in such a unique way.
PBH also was the most consistent because the guy quit when he didn't have anymore good jokes.
Make sure to check out Ctrl+Alt+Del the Annotated Series on youtube, full of crude humor that almost makes Buckley funny.
