Culdcept Saga Pre-order thread of Tators and love

It was meant to be! Got my 360 back. They sent me a brand freaking new machine, quiet as all hell so must be a newer model. Also sent me a free month of Xbox Live Gold. Its on bitches! Go Spudfolk attack!

My heart just sank a bit. Amazon is posting a delay in shipping Culdcept. New shipping date: 2/11. Is it the same for anyone else, or does the universe only hate me right now?

Edit: Best Buy, who didn't have a product listing previously, is posting the same date. Gamestop (ugh...) seems unaffected.

Going to pick it up after work, but I won't be able to play for a week or so (if i'm lucky).

We're having a baby tomorrow! :lol

I win. I just paid it off completely with trade in credit and had enough left over to put $25 towards SSB: Brawl. I'll be home and on Live at 3PM. :D

My gamertag is Ji3eezy.

Ditto for my Amazon order. I'm going to visit Gamestop tonight on the off-chance they got some in and have extras. HA! I'm sure that'll happen.

Aren't these usually terrible?

I've read that the mini guides are freebies for Gamestop preorders and I've also read that they are nothing special.

Picking my order up tonight after work. Since peoples decks will vary greatly in strength for a couple of weeks until everyone gets up to speed I imagine that letting the CPU pick the decks for multiplayer games would be an excellent option.

amazon says the 6th now

nooooooo

I don't understand why people use Amazon if they want a game as soon as possible. If you're willing to pay for overnight, -always- go through Gamestop. They have never failed to get me a game on release day for years.

Amazon, on the other hand, has consistently been a day or two late, sometimes up to a week, even with overnight shipping.

I actually like amazon... I've always and I kid you not "always" received my items from them either on time or early...more early than not.

Wow, the manual is fantastic.

Unfortunately, the -one- thing I was hoping most for doesn't exist. You can't save multiplayer games mid-game. Ugh. That really sucks.

Yeah, that's a bummer. I do like that it has blind matches, though. That plus time limits should keep games from going on too long.

This could really suck though. Two player games on the PS2 could go on for 2-3 hours. And 4 player games? I can see them pushing 6 hours.

The manual imples that you can set time limits, so I'm hoping you can play for score or something, thereby allowing for 1 hour games.

Picked up my copy. Gonna play the single player for a while to get used to the game, and then in a couple of days gonna get online to WHIP ME SOME GAF ASS!!!

Went to Best Buy, they aren't getting any until thursday here in MN. BUT!! Gamestop had 2 in stock plus they had extras of the free mini-strategy guide. So awesome for me.

Time to go home in 20min pour a drink and relax with a slow game for once.

I love these niche games for 39.99, first EDF was a riot(my wife actually played that with me because of the simple controls) and now Culdcept, woo!

Gonna go and pick mine up tonight

Do they have a strategy for this game?
there is a mini guide, its pretty neat but its for beginners. its free and fits in the case along with the awesome manual.

I just called gamecrazy and they said they "should have it before friday". This is the last time I use those asshats. They never get the smaller stuff in on time.

Just picked up my copy awhile ago. Some dumbass at the gamestop I pre-ordered from gutted my copy so I had to go to a different store to get a sealed copy.

I will dig in a little later tonight.

I just got nuked by the cpu in the first battle. I kept rolling to the damn castles and kept drawing spell cards that were not worth a piss.

I lost and got 5 cards as a reward. I'm hoping that the cpu is not as ruthless as it was in the first battle when I start getting better cards.

If you're hard-pressed for time or a little impatient, feel free to go into the Versus game mode and slap the Story Mode characters around in a quick 10-round match to build up your card collection. It's difficult to really make a match go your way in so few rounds, though, so don't bother if you're allergic to racking up losses.

Question: Is it worth picking this up for solo play only? I won't be able to get online long enough to complete a whole game w/o getting booted due to my spotty internet connection.

Yeah definitely. I probably won't be playing online all that much myself, but Culdcept is just as addicting and fun offline as it is online.

Picked it up today. Lots of fun. Probably won't get much time during the week to go online, but I'll probably be online Thurs-Sat. this week

I'm gonna wait till I go online too. I want to get the hang of it first.

Tag is Beefy Hits
Go ahead and add me for games. I'll be on most Fri. and Sat. probably.

I'll be picking it up ASAP. At first I thought the demo was 'not that good', but now I'm really into it.

I need help guys. Culdcept for PS2 let you just make a random character from that spindel of sprite types ( guy/girl of different non-important sprites) and that would be you. So i picked my avatar and my brother picked his. We were both able to save our cards we earned to our own characters. I'm having big problems with this in Culdcept Saga as it appears that the "virtual character" you make in Versus will not allow you to save the cards you earn. Is the only way around this making two main accounts using a seperate memory card? Or am i missing something? Can you save the virtual characters you make in versus mode?

hmmm...I'm not sure but I'll check on it tomorrow.

I am not 100% sure here, but I think each of you need to make a character in single player mode and then use the different characters books.

the problem i got was when going to make another character in single player mode, it said it would delete my saved data from my character in order to save the new one.

Yeah, this is another game where the 360 profile system causes lots of needless confusion and frustration. It's almost as bad as Rock Band. I think you may need to make a 360 profile for your brother. You don't need to use a memory card to do it, both accounts can be on the same HD. My sister chose Virtual Cepter when we played and she somehow beat me (SHE CHEATED I SWEAR) and missed out on all the cards she won. They were neat ones, too.

Can you only win body parts in single player? When my friends come over am I the only one whose character isn't going to look identical?

I think u can only get them in single player. I played one round of verus and one round of single player story, and i got a few parts from the very first story one.

And my brother does have a profile where you sign in, i don't think that helps sadly.

OH. Ok. If you're both logged in the game doesn't let the second player make any menu choices, which is retarded. You have to sign out. The game will restart and he should be able to start a new game and make his character.

Picked it up yesterday afternoon and got a good four or five hours in.

Managed to barely win the first match, but have since cruised on to win the next three story battles fairly easily. Don't be discouraged though if you lose story battles as even if you lose, you win some new cards (although losing the time to play the match is fairly significant). Culdcept is a game that luck plays a huge role in (almost any deck can beat any other deck based solely on luck of the draw and rolls).

I have yet to see the blatant cheating yet by the AI that was prevalent in the PS2 game...but I'm not yet very far into the game...so it might not be turned up as much yet. There will always be times where the enemy has one stronghold in the middle of a sea of safe lands to finish your move on and you will somehow happen to land on it at the most inopportune time. Shit happens. Hopefully, this is about the norm because while I can understand there being a small need later on for the AI to get a little help here and there... the level of cheating in the PS2 version was enough to prevent me from finishing it.

Also, I've heard from other boards that while Kelpie is still in this game (Old Willow is not), he's not the almost guaranteed win any longer against the CPU anymore. Lots of folks are reporting that the CPU will work its ass off to ensure that a Kelpie is taken out as soon as possible. There also seem to be quite a few more cards in this version which seem to be tailored to break those overpowered cards from being the show-stoppers they were before. For example, I have one particular item card (can't remember the name off hand) that when used, if your creature ends battle with 20HP or less, both your creature and the enemy's creature are destroyed. That's a very nice sacrificial enabler for use on overpowered creatures such as Kelpie.
