Current Online Stats for Halo 2 from bungie.net

Socom 2 usually had about 30k people on at night, not sure how many unique users through the whole day though...maybe another 10-20k? This was like 4-5 months after release though

there's roughly 100,000 people online right now (almost 500,000 uniques)... wonder if it's going to hit about 150,000-175,000+ by the end of the day

socom1 had a 50k average at one point if i'm not mistaken. then again that game included international servers from the start. socom2 segregated the community until recently.

the numbers of unique players of Halo 2 is around the same numbers of players online at peak hours in WoW.
Let alone CS (is supposed to be the most played online game).
Not trolling, I just read that facts but can't find a link
I'm still happy for Halo 2 the numbers are impressive but that makes you think How many users bought it for the SP alone :/, they should get H:CE instead.

Wow - Halo 2 clears 100k pretty much every day, sometimes getting up to 125k or more on weekends. I didn't have any kind of benchmark to measure that against before - that's a ton of players. Wow.

CS peaks at about 160,000

Considering WoW is primarily an online, subscription based game I'm actually surprised it doesn't blow past Halo 2.

Just curious - when does it peak? Halo 2 tends to between 8 and 10pm PDT.

now this is odd.

if i'm reading this right it's 8AM PST to 1PM PST. (even at 5AM PST it starts to hit it's peak)

wtf. That's an odd peak time

btw this is just the last 2 days i'm going by

Must be more popular in Europe than the US.

Interesting numbers.

I could've sworn Counter-Strike used to peak at higher than 160k in the WON days, Steam must've cut that number down a bit.

Another random number to ponder:

4,219 people are playing Starcraft on battle.net right now.

Pretty good for a game from '97 I suppose.

how about this stat? :P

If you average onling game hours by copies of the game sold (220 million / 6.7 million) it averages to nearly 33 hours played online PER COPY. That is one impressive number.

Yup. It really speaks to how deep the online game is, especially for a shooter. I've put in about that much time, and when the new maps hit matchmaking, I'll do it again. And again, when the other five hit. And then again for old times sake...... :)

its actually MUCH higher then that though, since no where near all 6.7 million of those people are on live...

That's the 1st time that I see more than Half-million of unique players

it would be interesting to see these stats from launch graphed in excel... just to see how they peaked at launch, the amount of time for them to subside a bit, and then how they may have peaked again when the AU was released and again when the maps came out.

has any site even kept a log of these numbers?

The "Players Online" is the number of players over the last 24 hours, not the number of player at this time.

The GameSpy numbers for Half-Life/Counter Strike ARE the number of players on at this time, which is why it seems less than the Halo 2 numbers, but in reality, the number of online CS players >> the number of Halo 2 players over one day.

so many people, yet it takes AGES to get a match now. maybe just some bugs after the update? And What in gods name is wrong with the sword and grav lift now?

It takes a bunch of matches for the system to 'learn' what kind of connections work best. It should speed up in a few days.

Well the new maps just got released so there's definitely going to be a spike in the short-term.

well even if you count that, there's the people that just played it at first with the 2 month trial card

Damn, 8 months later and still going like a mofo.

Myself and 3 buds are playing Team Slayer tonight.

Also, I don't like acting like a bitch at times, sometimes people are just really good and they hand you your ass. Other times, it's blatant cheating. Take this for example from a few nights ago. I had to email Bungie after this.

If you are going to cheat, don't make it so damn obvious.
