CVG: Gran Turismo 6 reveal in a few weeks

Not on PS3 = Fail. Sony missing out on a lot of revenue.
Not on PS4 = Fail. Sony missing out on a hardware driver.
Only logical solution is to have it on both.

Drive Club is the only reason I think it may not be on PS4 though.

Sony can bring out GT6 on PS3 this year and next year bring out GT7 on PS4 .
That way they make loads of cash on PS3 and for PS4 they won't run into supply problems when the next GT hits .
I don't like it but it's the smart move for them .

Has GT6 been in the works ? I'm kinda surprised they can pop out another GT so fast after the seemingly decade long wait for GT5.
Let's not forget Polyphony being one of the premier Japanese dev studios technology wise since the release of GT1. Opinions on GT5 as a package varies but it's insanely packed (yet to be challenged actually) and it's doing heaps of interesting tech stuff from 3D to dynamic resolution to the best lighting in any car sim blahblahblah. GT5's long development time is mainly due to the significant leap in technology between the PS2 and PS3 (programmable shaders, complex multicore programming) and Polyphony getting a hold of this. We won't see such another technological leap (under the hood) before ray-tracing becomes viable (and ray tracing will significantly simplify graphical programming as it's a non-bullshit/trickery approach).

I Hope it's PS3 only & the PS4 GT take it's time & push the PS4.

this. PS4 actually doesnt need a killer app yet. let the team take its time learning the hardware and the extended functions of the platform. PS4 sales at this point are going to be a slow burn until they can discount it to mass market prices ($250) When that times you want games like GT7 to be driving sales.

Having it come out now limits its audience. There are only so many people who are going to be early adopters of a console, no matter what is on it.

There is no way to know.

What we do know is that Polyphony has been relentlessly working on content since the release of GT5, and that was 2 and a half years ago. They were spotted scanning multiple venues around the world, not to mention the omitted assets that were seen on GT5 trailers and other leaked material.

GT5 also had hooks in place for more DLC than it was made available, which makes me thing PD decided to withhold that content for the next full release.

We can safely assume there will be a lot more venues and a significant amount of cars in Premium quality. Whether thats going to be wrapped on a title for PS3, or a next-gen one, is anybody's guess.

One possibility is that since the tech on PS3 was mature enough, a 2nd team may have worked on GT6, or GT5 Spec III, adding all that content, while the main team has been developing GT for PS4. Maybe the full game, maybe Prologue.

Whatever the case, everybody should be excited. Since the PS2, Sony has always had a Gran Turismo reveal of sorts with their new platform, I expect no different this time. Just what Polyphony could do with that hardware makes my head spin.

A killer app is exactly what the PS4 needs, especially early in the console cycle where you need to expand the userbase. You don't release a "killer app" late in a console generation when it's literally a fucking afterthought just to rake in some cash (which you can do on the PS4 because GT fans will jump in especially if it's on the PS4 and in next-gen glorious form).

What the PS3 does not need is a killer app like GT6, it does nothing to drive PS3 sales. GOW2 on PS2 was the absolute worst decision one can make in terms of PS3 sales (not talking about what's best of Santa Monica or what's best for SCEWW's profitability, but what's best for the new platform and driving that ecosystem) when the PS3 needed that big push, the PS3 was at the mercy of titles like fucking LAIR and Heavenly Sword.

A console generation is like a rolling a snowball, you don't "slow burn" at the beginning, right at the beginning is when you need to give it all the momentum you can muster, once you have the momentum you pick up alot more third party titles. How they tried to do it with the PS2 doesn't work anymore because the competition will put that killer app in the first year, they're not going to fuck around and you don't have a year's head start. If the team needs more time then put out GT6 next year on the PS4, but pushing out GT6 on the PS3 this year and then forcing the fanbase to wait 4 years for a PS4 version would be insane.

GT7 Prologue will be on PS4 you crybabies!

I wonder if the current logitech wheels will work on the PS4.

Well, 1280x1080p @ 60fps.
Actually it has dynamic resolution so 1280x1080p is the max ceiling and it scales down (and back up) to maintain 60fps.

PS4 version will surely be 1920x1080p standard.

Well to be specific 1280*1080p @ 40-60fps

Yes, ofcourse. :)

I actually fear Polyphony is going to do something stupid like that.
They did demo a 4K version of Gran Turismo just 6-9 months ago.

I'd be okay with a "4K Mode" similar to GT1's Hi-Fi mode. But yeah, it's probably not worth it.

Speaking of resolution, if it IS on PS3 I kinda hope they go from 1280x1080 down to 1280x720. Just for performance sake. They should also do a Forza 4 and cut the mirror framerate in half. Maybe drop the car count down to 12 too.

I'm actually kinda excited.

I am getting it regardless of what system its on, the PS3 can still pump out good visuals and i know PD will push that system to its knees, they are one of the few developers who can do that.

I would hope it is for PS4, but that depends on when PD knew what the PS4 even was and what Sony ordered them to do

I'm pretty sure it's going to be PS3 only. Sony wants to sell PS3 hardware and software this Christmas.

This is the 10 year plan in action. Better get used to it folks, there will be some big PS3 exclusives from Sony next year too.

hmmmmmm interesting, its happening
i still think a content packed GT6 prologue is a good option for the PS3 and GT6 for PS4

i think its just gonna be GT6 on PS3 :(

maybe gt6 for ps3 (which sounds the most "reasonable" if I can use this word) now has fully detailed cars for the whole lot.

I just wonder how much optimization can be done, given that gt5 had to resort to all these tricks in order to try and maintain a "steady" framerate.

of course I would prefer a launch gt6 for ps4, but I dont think this will happen. and not for driveclub or whatever.

Why are people upset this game is not going to the PS4? What a complete waste of engine resources (could've made an Omega Boost sequel at least). Besides, it would be stupid to have attention away from DriveClub and I certainly forsee at leasta late holiday 2014 release for a next-gen GT game.

Well the logical thing to do is put GT6 Prologue on PS3 (2013) and GT6 on PS4 (2014). This also gives room to Drive Club, otherwise it will be sent to die if GT6 (full version) comes out in 2013 irrespective of the platform.

They could free up memory by dropping the 4xMSAA (and MSAA altogether). Most internally developed titles from Sony use some new form of AA like MLAA. Third party devs almost never use 4xMSAA on their PS3 games even if the 360 version has that type of AA.

Sony needs to realize that people want new hardware and new games to play on the new hardware. The new Gears of War game and the new God of War game were sales disappointments for that very reason. Do not be surprised if The Last of Us and Beyond have disappointing sales as well (see: not bad sales, but disappointing nonetheless).

GT6 would not eat into Drive Club's sales because there's no way in hell it would be a PS4 launch title given Polypony's history. Release Drive Club as a launch title and GT6 six to nine months later and the problem fixes itself. A fall 2014 release for GT6 makes more sense anyway.

Last of Us and Beyond at 2 million would be fine (for Sony exclusive) I think. GT6 needs to hit 5 million at the very least! With Nextbox Fortza coming out (probably) that might be hard this time around for GT in a very long time...

I'm positive The Last of Us will hit at least 2.6 million and maybe over 3 million after a price cut.

I guess they could. resolution also.
but then maybe they would have to face a backlash that a sequel of a top game looks worse than its predecessor.

I understand it makes sense for yamauchi to leave the platform with a fully modeled game, and not one where a percentage was modeled and the rest was ..transferred. his legacy etc.

I will buy the fucking thing. I just preferred x100 it was a launch ps4 title.

Those games sold like shit because they were spin-offs and not sequels.

GT6 PS3 - Autumn 2013
DriveClub PS4 - Spring 2014
GT7 Prologue - Autumn 2014/Spring 2015
GT7 - 2016

..or something like that. I think that would work specifically if they could use games to promote each other, like buying GT6 gives you beta access to DriveClub on PS4 and buying DriveClub gives early access to GT7 Prologue.

Gran Turismo - 173 cars and 8 tracks
Gran Turismo 2 - 600+ cars and 20 tracks
Gran Turismo 3 - 180 cars and 19 tracks
Gran Turismo 4 - 721 cars and 40 tracks

Gran Turismo 5 - ~200 (premium cars) and ~25 (unique) locations :P

800 premium cars and 60 tracks confirmed!
I meant added on top of GT5's content, but I don't know if I understood you haha

please let there be a Vita version
please let there be a Vita version
please let there be a Vita version
please let there be a Vita version

(Sony, please love the Vita the way Nintendo is loving the 3DS)

Yes, ofcourse. :)

There is no reason that they shouldn't they are USB and the PS4 has the ports for them, also given that it's using pretty much PC architecture it would be foolish to stop games making use of older wheels.

I've got my wheel ready for this one.

Loved GT5 although never really played it as much as I should have. Got bummed when getting to the endurance races. Looking forward to seeing what GT6 will bring if it is indeed on PS3. More of the same with maybe less screen tear and smoke/particle effects please. If they can nail that then it will be godly for the machine.

Oh and VITA! Damn that would be a day 1 purchase!

If it will be only PS3, I'll pass.

If it will be PS3-PS Vita, I'll buy it.

If it will be PS4, I'll buy it.

I highly doubt GT6 will be a PS3 game or crossgen.

I'm no fan of it but it's basically a perfect system seller to drive early console sales.

GT6 for PS3 is a bad idea for one simple. Kaz cut a lot of content from GT5 because the PS3 can´t handle it. The consumers will get raw deal, drop in frame rate, etc.... The PS3 can´t handle Kaz´s vision, why release it there? I am pretty sure it´s that dumb Yoshida decision.

folks are going nuts with this cross gen stuff. barely happened past gens outside of 3rd party sports games, why make it standard now?

either PS3 or PS4, don't waste resources with 2 different versions.

Unless the physical media on the older platform can't support it, all that is needed is scaling down the game. Basically making it so next gen = ultra settings while current is mid/low settings.

because it will look better on the history cv that polyphony had a gt game on ps3 that offered full hd modelling for all cars?
also, its not that gameplay features and mechanics could not be improved too.

It wouldn't have to look worse. GT5 was optimized for both resolutions, which is why they had different AA applied to them. So they could keep that. And MLAA or FXAA could potentially give better or at least very similar results as 4xMSAA. God of War 3 uses MLAA and it's one of the cleanest games on any console.

I'll give Sony credit, though, if they do go with the PS3 release then their support for the console in its final year has been outstanding. Sly Cooper, God of War, The Last of Us, Puppeteer, Beyond Two Souls and probably a few more that I can't think of right now.
