CVG Rumor: MS planning press conference for Gamescom

I think this became clear at the Xbox One unveil.

Their plans for the European launch as of right now are questionable at best with all this tier thing when they should try more here but instead they have a "don't give a fuck" attitude that will probably turn out much worse than what they did with the 360.

I guess the US is the only market that MS cares about.

Another 1 hour press conference?? I'm guessing they have a fair bit more to offer, and people said they blew their load at E3...

I think we'll see more core titles and European focussed partnerships.

- Partnerships with UK/European providers for TV and Apps.
- More core exclusives. Lionhead makes sense, Rare and MS Victoria.
- Hopefully some news on Indie support
- Ideally for Europe, something similar to the fantasy football thing, only for our (the real) version of 'football' .. that would be quite important I think.
- Adjusted prices would change things a lot in my opinion.

MS need to realise how important Europe is to their success. The fact they are doing a press conference for first time at Gamescom in a long time is a good thing I think.

They already announced exclusive content within Ultimate Team mode for Microsoft. If nothing else, that means there's a marketing partnership at play here as well. I'm just saying Microsoft is going to milk that for the Euro audience.

Most people won´t know or care about a bit of extra content in a single mode. They are not going to gain any ground with those deals.

They need to do something about the price, ÂŁ429 is just fucking insane, it wont sell past the hardest of hardcore ms fans. Price point is key in the uk it nearly always has been, even more so when your seen as on par or infact below the power of the other.

Tighten that money around Fifa's neck and you're good to go. I'd expect at least a couple of more exclusives announced as well.

Hope Sony has something to counter. If they weren't expecting Microsoft at this event, they might not have any PS4 related bombs to drop.

Fifa is huge on the playstation brand in EU. No monybags could get them an exclusive deal. I think there is also an agreement with fifa that prevents the licence being on a single plattform. But they coud monyehat Konami and get PES14 next gen exclusive ;)

Gamescom is usually a Sony event and they will show a few new games and probably announce their release date wihich will likely be ahead of the X1. And they still have that 100€ price difference in their favour.

You must have missed the May 21 conference then. They already have exclusive content for Fifa..

It's even more important considering the UK was one of the few places in europe where 360s outsold PS3s.

The price and the lingering upset over the used games thing will make it hard for Microsoft to repeat that, at least in the initial year.

I just expect a short overview of the launch games, and a Europe date confirmation. nothing more. Possibly a US specific date too

Also depending on the timing of the conference, we could get PS4 timing soon after.

I don't expect a spec bump, not realistic
I don't expect any kinect removal, it is too integral
I don't expect a price cut, if they have stock issues they'll sell out anyway, so just ride out the end of the year and see how things proceed and be prepared for a possible price cut in spring 2014

i can totally see a kinectless sku or atleast non mandatory kinect option coming given the latest news about the nsa and germany

With the XB1 PR being a total fuck up this far I totally understand the need to get as much good press as they possibly can before launch.
Maybe all this will push MS to some fan service in the form. FF7HD anyone? They were pretty good at these things in the early life of the 360.

I expect

- Crackdown 3
- Fable MMO
- Kinect Fitness
- Quantum Break Gameplay
- Fantasy Football aka Real Football
- Media apps, Sky Go, BBC iPlayer controlled with Kinect

Totally agree with this, MS have a mountain to climb in the UK. I have seen several newspaper and web articles from non gaming sites and all are highlighting the advantages of the PS4 over the Xbox One.

I do not know anyone who has preordered the Xbox One, during party chat on XBL it seems people are going PS4 or sticking with the 360 at the moment.

You mean that ultimate team shit? Yes, this will move like what? 100 units? :D
I'm talking about serious deals like timed exclusivity - real arguments to buy an X1 at this horrendous price.

I personally think Microsoft will never release a kinect-less version of the X1. Their whole vision revolves around it. And if its not sold in every box, then developers wont use it.

I know they did a 180 with drm, but can't see it happening.

You never know though.

I expect

- Crackdown 3
- Fable MMO
- Kinect Fitness

- Quantum Break Gameplay
- Fantasy Football aka Real Football

Would be lovely to get these. I do think MS need their Kinect Fitness out at launch. They need some more titles to break up the shooter filled launch and create their own Wii Fit.

We also need to see some Destiny footage for Xbox One, as well as Watchdogs and The Division.

Nooo ha. Jsut a really good Fable game first, with online co-op, maybe even up to 4 people. But why just straight to an MMO after the state of Fable 3? I think providing they can just do a really good open world rpg with good online first would be a better idea than jump to full mmo.

I agree, 100%. And I like this idea of having Kinect in every box, but price is still too high...as someone said before, if I were Microsoft I'd put a game and some accessories in the box pronto.

I didn't mean full on MMO, but similar to Destiny.

I think it will be more of that. Way low expectation.
i.e.

- Dual APUs
- 12GB Ram
- Price cut
- Reconfirm next gen MGSV only come xbox one with PS3/360.
- More EA deal, one more EA partner studio exclusive deal.
- Only coming to xbox one when PC GTAV plan to release.

+Black Tusk game hopefully

I wouldn't expect anything from Black Tusk until E3 2014.

I think it will be more of that.

MGS 5 has never been exclusive for Xbox One, there's nothing to reconfirm other then it also will be on PS4. And Rockstar won't announce a next-gen or PC port of GTA until we're into 2014.

I didn't mean full on MMO, but similar to Destiny.

The next Fable will without doubt be something along Destiny. It's the natural progression of what they started with Fable 2 and the floating orbs form your friends list.

Europe is view traditionally as less price sensitive than the US, so I'd expect they'd do a value ad or slight price cut for launch for Americans if they were going to do anything (and I don't think they are).

But.. what about Rare? ;)

Banjo. Believe.

Full exclusivity on Fifa? No chance haha, that will never happen for MS. I think their best chance would be something like that Fantasy Football thing, only for the individual football leagues like Premeir, Champions etc I'd love something like that actually now that I think about it.

MS are going to dig even deeper into their pipeline if they do this so it is fraught with danger. Announcing a bunch of titles with no release date leaves them exposed for E3 2014 with very little to show for the end of 2014 and mid 2015 at their main show.

I think they blew their launch and 2014 load at E3 to combat the idea that Xbone is a media device that happens to play games, so it will be interesting to see what they bring to Gamescom. Especially since we know Sony always have a strong conference in Cologne.

Well they also said their vision revolved around the cloud and look how that turned out.

Quite why MS thought it was a good idea to force Kinect on people I'll never know, it's such a stupid restriction. Add Kinect functionality, sure, but don't force people to use this stuff. It just makes the whole system look unappealing - speaking for myself and for a vocal subset of their audience.

Fully expecting this to be like the Xbox One reveal, being mosty about the European features of the thing.

I've noticed that a lot of places have gone very quiet regarding the console's multimedia features since E3, and they aren't really being mentioned as a positive when comparing PS4 and XB1. Microsoft will not be happy with that at all.

Probably show more exclusives plus clear things up about Xbox One features due to the recent changes.

Not expecting a price drop announcement. The system will sell at launch regardless. MS just seems to be banking in on the impatience of early adopters.

Not expecting a price drop until 2014.

Not really. Microsoft still has yet to reveal a bunch of the games that will launch within the first 12 months of the system. Plus, Microsoft is not stupid and knows how to create a rolled out campaign.

If they drop the price at all. I think they will go for a value-add plan of attack for 2014 and then drop the price for fall 2015.

It'll probably be a mini relaunch of the console to clear up exactly what it does and doesn't do after all the recent changes.

They definitely need to lower the price in the UK though, it's going to be DOA if they launch at ÂŁ429. Even just getting it down to ÂŁ399 would do alot as they could still sell people on Kinect being the extra ÂŁ50 over PS4.

Especially in Germany. That country is still in the stone age regarding TV and entertainment services, so nearly 90% of all it's multimedia features are irrelevant for most of europe and wouldnt work anyway.

Microsoft should at least announce an sku with one game bundled and 1 year free gold subscription for 499€.

Obviously...

Stupid depends on how you see it. The original vision for the XB1 was far from stupid, it was bold and three years too early.

Microsoft has a lot of good and clever people, and sometimes their future bubble is not in step with the outside world (something most first mover people see every day)

I don't think they need to go all re-reveal on it. APG stuff will work on Xbox One no matter the region, so more or less everyone will get the TV features (unless you have a cable straight up your TV and a card inside it). And multimedia wise, Netflix and so on will work. NFL stuff won't but that is also not that relevant here in Europe.

They truly are masters of not being stupid and rolling out campaigns so far this past year.

If that was true then they would have had more games at the reveal and did some of the media shit at E3.

If they had the Halo trailer at the reveal plus maybe Ted Price with Sunset Overdrive then the idea that it was a media box with game functions would never have taken hold like it did.

I remain sceptical over MS's EU ambitions as well. It wouldn't surprise me if their exclusive reveals just turned out to be new trailers for the games already announced at E3 with a couple of new XBL/Kinect games.
