Cyberpunk 2077 "Much Greater" in Magnitude Than The Witcher, Dev Says

So excited for this. I can wait till 2017, maybe spring 2018.

Witcher 3's budget was eighty million? I swear there were just posts upon posts here about how Witcher 3 was only like twelve million.

I think that was around the budget of the witcher 2, cd projekt was struggling to keep themselves afloat during development and nearly went under

"Much greater in magnitude" doesn't necessarily relate to the amount of content or map size, I think some of you might be jumping the gun a bit with your concerns. The game is probably far enough away that I doubt they could comment on those things accurately even if they wanted to.

I mean, I'm in. But "bigger" than The Witcher 3 probably is not something I really want.

Okay, well, what other likely conclusions are there to draw?

EDIT: Okay DirtyCase those are a few decent points. But I have no doubt at least part of what they mean is scale and "hours". I don't have enough gaming time to really allow one single player game to consume over 100 hours.

I think what they mean by bigger is yes the scale, but also just the amount of interactivity. The witcher 3 was an open world role playing game. Cyberpunk 2077 is aiming to be an open world CRPG full of elements from the pen n paper game. In one interview they talk about implementing a disguise system where people treat you differently based on what you are wearing.

IMO this will be WAY more intricate than the W3 in terms of mechanics because they are striving to translate the tabletop game to a computer game. I actually started DM'ing a modified campaign of cyberpunk 2020 and the possibilities makes my mouth water.

More quests, more dense locations, more story, more dialogue.

I think they've said before that the map size wouldn't be bigger but that the map would be denser with more to it and like being able to explore a lot of buildings.

Yeah exactly this, Night City is very dense and there needs to be tons of side quests and different story lines to accommodate the player freedom they intend to have in this game. Unlike the witcher series, the main character in this will be largely our own creation, the variety of content needs to match that level of freedom.

Why? Would you prefer less game?

There is such a thing as too much of a good thing. I have 180 hours into the Witcher III and it wouldn't have been a lesser game if I had only gotten 100 hours out of it, or even less. It could have definitely been shortened and it would have most likely been even better.

I know this is subjective, and I know it's a fine line sometimes, but I viewed probably around half of The Witcher 3 as stuff I'd describe as filler. So the answer to your question is.. maybe? Probably? Depending.

Essentially. I'm not just talking about map size either. I'm talking about too much repetitive side content, period. TW3 was at least a major step up from DA:I in that department, in terms of having at least some level of variety. They did it "more right" than Bioware at least (ME:Andromeda am cry... please be good).

Well I hope the combat will be much better and not pedestrian like Witcher 3's

Do we have absolutely anything as far as how the game will play? In my mind I see something like Deus EX Human Revolution but fucking huge. Would that be an accurate appriximation?

I just hope they don't fly too close to the sun. W3 was bonkers in terms of content and detail so don't know what they will do with cyberpunk 2077.

You would think that a cyberpunk game would me more dense since most of those settings are a result of some dystopian future with massive overpopulation wrought from the fear that China's population would engulf the world. Not exactly a sprawling type of affair unless we are going to the Off World Colonies as well.

Wow, I had no idea Witcher 3 sales were that soft. Just off the top of my head I would have conservatively guessed in the 8 million range.

In comparison Fallout 4 is above 12 million, isn't it?

Soft? The game has probably sold more than what your favorite games sell.

don't really want bigger. Bigger doesn't even correlate with better at this scale. I'd rather have it be half the size but with interesting gameplay. Most likely they'll hire 1500 devs and just mass produce "content" instead. I will say that I'm ready to be proven wrong though, a proper cyberpunk rpg would be nice.

The 6 million quote was from last year. They just announced that it sold near 10 million the other day.

okay do whatever you need to CDP. Just give me a new trailer and gameplay, I've been dying for ages to find out more about this game since the first teaser trailer thingy came out!

I don't think bigger has to mean the world will be 3x the witcher III. More complex story, more sidequests, more weapons also contribute to "bigger" RPG.

And even if so, the witcher was that big because they had so much contend that had to be put somewhere, not the other way around. I believe in this case it would be the same.

Also remember that in place of Roach there will probably be something travelling quicker, so could be that if the world doesn't grow, it will feel small.

All I need is less detective vision and I'll be happy.

This!
Made me stop playing actually. Every mission or close to every mission had you do this all the time. So boring. Many times you had to detect certain objects in order as well to progress. Really dumb when you're following foot tracks for example and you can see them with your own eyes, but since you skipped a highlighted part you have to go back and track the parts where they're highlighted.

first and formost the should focus of not making the same mistakes of witcher 3..it was a greta game..bur some of the choices in design and gameplay mechanics were baffling and thus fixed in subsequent patches..like the underwater controls or the inventory screen and its management

"Sure, many people consider The Witcher 3 to be the best game in the world [in 2015], but this is not a game that broke any sales record," he explained.

You made the best game in the world and made your money back and then some. Don't go turning EA on us.

I'm assuming this is one big city thats fully fleshed out, like 80% of the buildings having something inside each room or something to fill up the void that will be lost from having no wilderness. Can't wait ofc.

Has this been confirmed for PS4? I tried to search but couldn't find 100% confirmation anywhere. I'm really interested in this game so hopefully I'll get to play it on PS4.

I'm really doubting it's gonna be an NX+PC only game. If 2017 or early 2018 is the launch target I would assume that its being dev'd for XBO/PS4.

Really excited for this. It's weird in a way because even though I love rpgs I just don't feel thwt connection with the witcher?

I don't understand this complaint about open world games, a lot of content is optional. If you don't like it don't do it, no one forces you to do all the side quests so the game is as long as you want it to be.

We need more AAA developers like CD Projekt Red that really push themselves to outdo their previous output. It's a shame this kind of ambition seems to be a rare thing in the current big budget industry (though I'm sure publishers should get most of the blame for that).

I'm not even sure if it's possible to make another quality leap as big as those between the Witcher games, but if they can Cyberpunk 2077 should be something truly special.

Dear CDPR, before focusing on dick waving, focus on the following:

- No 20fps in some areas that are only fixed months later.

- No clunky ass combat that never gets fixed.

- No game breaking glitches that leaves early buyers waiting for a patch for months.

Of course this is just the usual hype but The Witcher 3 showed they also know how to deliver. Looking forward to this game like no other.

can't say i ever experienced this in The Witcher 3 which i assume you're talking about. i've been playing it since day one. did you buy it on console? if so, that's your problem regarding framerate. combat doesn't feel clunky to me and i only remember 2 bugs from my first playthrough (within the first month of release) and for a game the size of witcher 3 that's impressive.

Oh boy, here we go again.

How many times they need to tell this to us? Oh please, feel free to tell us one more (3rd) time cuz we did not believed you the last time)))))

I mean, seriously, show us at least one (I hope that's not too much to ask?) screenshot goddamnit. I want to see how the game looks a lot more than that it's а "much greater" in magnitude than The Witcher yet again. I don't want to know anything about the game except how it looks and plays that's all that matters to me.

I still think every project needs to looked at as its own thing. Different development leads, and a different engine/budget/tools will determine how much needs to be cut, how much problems and setbacks they have. It's impossible to say.
In a way, The Witcher 3 is almost a miracle in what they managed to do.

If there is a design lead or something with a wacky sense of combat or gameplay it can ruin everything, or if they have a setback with the engine (like Destiny) a project can be stilted, corners can have to be cut.
So I think the idea that a company who has made great games in the past, being indicated as "its a sure thing!" with their next game is sketchy. These games are massive, they require hundreds of people working extremely hard, and almost anyone of them can fuck things up along the chain. At least a whole crew of team leads who make important choices.
This game has been underway for so long... Was it 2007 or 2008 we started hearing about it? There was an entire SAGA about the IP being sold to various parties or some shit.

I'm all for Cyberpunk. I'd like to see someone make a steampunk game too. A game that looks sort of how Steamboy (anime( looked!

Blame the Downgrade whiners. Though to be honest it was a result of their inexperience, I don't see them making the same mistakes again.
