Cyberpunk 2077 Will Have Red Dead Redemption 2 - Level Visuals, Could Be Huge Seller.

There's a part of me that feels that cdpr is holding this game to be a cross gen double dip affair ala GTAV.

I could see a scenario where they release this game very late this gen, add in a robust multiplayer component, and then upgrade everything for next gen consoles to get the double dip.

I don't have a problem with this as long as the game is excellent.

It will look superb stunning on nxt gen...and 19mil sold !? with no goddamn sweat!!!.

It will be on current gen, no? Or is it coming out in like 2022 or something?

I dont understand why EA, Activision, Sony, and Microsoft dont have any of these giant open world rpg prestige games. There is a MASIVE thirst for them. I mean the last fantay one was in what 2011? The last present day thug one was 2012. And we have not ever had a scifi one. Sure it takes years, but look at how much R* and CD has made.

old gen—[six months]—>>new gen—[six months]—>>definitive PC version

Or would their status as a pc gaming company preclude the Rockstar route?

I think the brokerage people are being exceptionally optimistic. I think the game will sell well, and potentially exceed TW3 in terms of initial sales, but that is heavily dependent on a few factors, firstly decent performance on all 3 platforms, coupled with little in the way of competition for a couple of months, as well as a strong marketing campaign.

IDK what the timelines are for the streaming services rollouts, but if Google Stream is up and running by release, install base won't be an issue. Open world rpgs are usually lag resistant because players are very tolerant of it (see rdr2). So, streaming might be just as good as any other option, maybe even better. Having a brand new, highly anticipated, heavily marketed, top teir open world experience available to everyone with a chrome browser...well just maybe 19 million might be an order of magnitude too low. I'm not betting on it, but we just might see a quantum shift in AAA game delivery in the making.

I cant see scarlett being that shift, because you still need purpose built hardware.

CD Projekt Red explained that they're taking a painstaking amount of time getting the game's visual quality up to standard -- and even beyond that. In fact, they're working on making a level of polish that matches up with Rockstar Games' gorgeous Red Dead Redemption 2

Best decision I ever made by not pre ordering this game. I hardly do and was confident over this game but waited on principle.
I will happily wait till 2022 end or at first sign of cdpr trying a NMS.

Same. I seriously considered doing it but only stopped myself because I wanted to play it on next-gen consoles and I didn't have a PS5 when it launched. Otherwise, I honestly may have pre-ordered.

By the time I got the PS5 (three months later), everything was out in the open. Dodged a bullet there. I'll buy the game a few months after the next-gen version is live and patched and when the game is available for $10 to $15.

Have gamers learned their lesson from hypetrain 901223012 which didn't meet expectations?

no
You'd think with internet streamers and game sites posting opinions and videos day one on YT, gamers would wait a couple days or a week to see how the game shakes out instead of listening to corporate PR or gaming websites giving an overrated score in order to stay in publishers good books.

Guess not.

The old days were different. Game reviews for a game might not come out until a mag issue a month or two later and there was no internet. Lots of games probably didn't even get a review if it was obscure. At best, you rented the game to test it yourself.

Yet with so much info now on day one, gamers seem worse getting burned pre-ordering games. And pre-ordering is an entirely different topic as hardly anyone preordered games way back.

This was fun but the best ones are between about 6 months and actual release of PS5/XSX.

So many comments about SSD and 40% gold.

Who woulda thunk that even 10 months later, the next gen versions still wouldnt be out!?
The initial projection on that road map they had was next gen patch was Q3 2021. Then someone said they revised during the summer to Q4 2021. Ok, here we are Q4. They have all 3 months.

Personally, I dont think they will do it at all.

Level of polish aside, the game looks every bit as good as Red Dead 2 on PC. I am actually surprised that they didnt downgrade the visuals for the PC versions to get it running on consoles like all other games do.

Have you seen the game on console? It got whacked with the downgrade stick many times

yeah, it looks like shit on consoles. I am talking about the pc version.
i don't know where people are coming from dissing its visuals on 2014 hardware :p yes on pc the game is exceptionally good looking, as DF recognized in their 'best grapics of the year awards' video for that year, if memory serves

Bought the game at launch still havnt played because of all the horror stories. Is there any hope that the next gen patch could turn this into a masterpiece or is it to far gone

i'm gonna try not to get triggered but... letting other people make up your mind to the extent that you still haven't played is pretty... yeah

i recently completed it and i loved it hugely, [spoiler warning -Ed.] i did it in a pretty specific way (mostly non-lethal and very little gunplay, i love exploring and didn't weigh the central story very heavily in my overall opinion of the game) but it's already one of my favourite games of the last 10 years.

Try to go into it open minded and don't just look out for things to diss it on, and you might be surprised. If you are playing non-lethal/stealth, the missions turn into infinitely various puzzles to solve, rather than samey run-and-gun events.

I've seen the videos and played the first couple hours to know I should just wait till the next gen patch at least so go ahead get triggered

It's good to hear CDPR's focus is on quality above everything else.

Witcher 3 was also an unknown quantity at that time for most people. Now that people know of the quality of CDPR from TW3, the expectations are that much higher for CP2077. It's worth mentioning that the 19 mil sales figure is from the brokerage house, and not CDPR.

Holy shit the downgrade

Amazing how games years before launch can somehow look better than the final version that is supposedly cleaned up and optimized.

I'd love to know how a studio works.

Hey team, ok out of 40 employees, I want you 5 to make an awesome fake ass trailer for E3. The remaining 35 of you just keep making the game as is. They're just going to fill a screen with bogus renders in a 30 second canned video. But after you see the video, I need you guys to match it best you can!

Funny how you never see movie makers make a trailer with totally faked bumped up looking clips which the final movie doesn't have (they just edit the sequence of clips).

Even though technically movie makers can do the bullshot route like games. Just film an extra minute of content with much better visuals, CGI and crazy scenes and make that the trailer. Should be worth it as a marketing tactic. Then the rest of the move sucks.

okay if you've played a bit that's a different matter, that's what triggered me, the idea that you'd base ur abstention entirely off the opinions of others, no worries then

You clearly don't know how game developement goes...

It was great on PC even at launch, and it's better now, add mods to the mix and I don't think anyone who complain seriously at this point has played much or at all on PC, the hating comes from the (still?) broken console release.

Vertical slice vs the real thing and then a dev overpromising on what their capability can delivered

SSM did it way better. They did a vertical slice but then delivered too 99% of that with God of War. They also basically said nothing about the scope of the project so it was all a.pleadant surprise

If CD Project didn't talk themselves up so much the backlash wouldn't have been as severe

They shouldn't have released it on last gen consoles. They should've focused on the PC version and then released on PS5/XSX a year or two later. But they got greedy. And the gigantic pool of last gen console gamers got broken versions, rightfully complained loudly about it, and the negative PR snowball grew too fast and just kept rolling.

GTA 4 has a better level of polish. NPC AI, interactions with the world are miles ahead of Cyberpunk and that game is 13 years old...

This is not a viable approach for any AAA studio. Next gen is and will still be severely supply constrained. Releasing to such a limited user base would mean that the game will be quickly discounted as majority of games are heavily front-loaded.

If they followed your suggestion the shareholders would have a good legal case to sue for lost profits.

This was the first game I pre-ordered in years, figuring that I had an X1X and it'd run fine, even if the X1 version ran terribly.

More than anything, I'm disappointed in CDPR, who I've loved since The Witcher 2 due in part to GOG being so open.

Between the final state of this game and now that DRM fiasco... I'm starting to think their suits have completely lost touch.

I think it's a short-sighted approach. As it is a perfect PS5/XSX version won't do much for them, their reputation is still ruined and people will keep talking about the broken launch version for years. Only way forward now is to do like Hello Games with No Man's Sky and just keep pumping out free big updates and surpass what they first promised, with enough positive word of mouth people might eventually return to see what the fuss is about.
