Cyclist confronted by 25+ dogs

Guys who are defending the dogs. I don't care if this guy is fucking Lance Armstrong with bionic legs on a goddamn rocket sled being chased by a group of poodles wearing "hug me!" sweaters, the impetus is not on him to not fuck up in this situation.

What if he was like a 250 pound soccer mom trying to lose weight on a public road explicitly labeled for bike use? Should she be able to outrun those dogs and be expected to not lose her shit?

A law-abiding citizen shouldn't be expected to be an ultimate badass with nerves of steel to use a public road for it's intended use in the middle of the day. I'm sorry, but in my mind the dog owners were completely in the wrong.

I mean, I know they have sheep and that counts for a lot, but it's not an excuse for everything.

I dont want to be mean but I can't believe what I'm reading Oo

Really? You think you can outrun a dog with your bike? At full speed, ok, but by the time you're at full speed, you won't have any legs left...

And a woman would have been really in danger.

I love dogs, they're wonderful, but never forget that they're animals and can still be very dangerous.

That man was in danger, 25 dogs will fuck your world up. Hell, 2 dogs could fuck your world up if they really wanted to and those asshole farmers need to keep better control of their dogs.

I love dogs and any dog I have will not be left unattended and it will be trained to not bark at everything that comes riding by.

farmer didnt even have decency to apologize and tried to put blame on cyclist...smh

This is what some dog owners do.

I won't tell the whole story again, but this basically happened to me once while walking my dog down a street and i got ran up on by 3 very large dogs and we had an incident where the cops had to be called. The owner basically said that i shouldn't be walking down his street if i dont want his dogs coming after me.

And a woman would have been really in danger.

I never noticed that dogs made a difference in attitude between men and women... a woman would have been in exactly the same level of danger as a man in that situation, considering that if 25 dogs want to kill you, you're dead, whatever your gender.

The owners shouldn't have let their dogs loose (they weren't too far away actually), but the man never was in real danger. He went through the countryside and got scared by local animals. End of the story.

Yes the dogs should have been restrained but the cyclist was also way overplaying the event.

I don't know if you've ever been confronted by barking mad dogs on a public street with nothing to restrain them, but it kind of gets the adrenaline pumping.

If I were that guy I'd be super pissed at those asshole farmers too.

I have. I've also been attacked by dogs too. It's not that big of a deal in this case. None of them lunged at him and were just barking. He could have walked through and there probably wouldn't have been a problem. The dramatics about the dogs eating him shows he's got some issues with dogs already.

I don't have any issues with dogs and anytime some idiot leaves their dog unattended outside and it comes up barking I get a little riled up. 25+ dogs running at me and barking would not leave me in a particularly chatty mood. Dude was perfect justified in what he said.

probably shouldn't have been riding where he wasn't supposed to

and get a car like every other human being in the 21st

Meh, dogs were on their own property presumably. Biker was in the wrong for trespassing. Not sure what the trespassing laws are in Greece though. Can't put sheep dogs on a leash on your own farm.

those asshole farmers need to keep better control of their dogs.

Better control ? All the dogs stopped barking at once when the owners showed up...

And the dogs were not menacing, at all. They looked like nice dogs, greeting a stranger who looks funny because he's a cyclist... But there's a lot of them, and they're not small dogs, so I can understand why he's afraid.
He should have stopped, and maybe try to whistle or shhh them... but screaming like a mad man and throwing feet around is the best way to stress them.

Poor guy, shitting in his cyclist pants...

Seriously gaf you are being incredibly unreasonable about this.

On a public road.

Those dogs looked pissed, not friendly.

You can never tell with a dog whether he's been raised right or if his owners don't care and let him do whatever, or worse, encourage aggressive behavior. 25+ dogs running at you looking pissed is not a situation in which you think 'Well I'll just shush them gently.'

Seriously, I've been in his situation with 1 dog and got pissed. (My son was with me, fuck that owner for letting their dog roam free.)

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuudeeeeeee

Everyone defending the dogs seem to have never experienced an adrenaline rush.

He was on a mountain bike with suspension... shouldn't be a problem to outpace a dog.

you cannot outride a dog unless you have a flat road and running start. That and dogs dont get tired, so they will chase you forever if they want. I guess the question is what does a dog do when it catches up to you, because Im not sure. I think its just your leg that will get chewed up. If it is one of those lock-jaw dogs then, it seems like the best thing to do is use the bike a shield and hold it off for a time

Dogs can be and often are deadly, 25+ dogs would kill anyone they decided to attack.

Also, dogs totally get tired, my little wiener dog hardly goes 3 blocks without needing a break. ;P

No such thing.

It's not his fault he's so tiny, it's much further for him. Dog blocks.

Idiotic farmers, 25 dogs roaming on a public road, really? And they use sheep as an excuse.

If they do have sheep, it's not such an absurd excuse : when they move their sheep, they'll be using public roads, with their dogs running free around them to keep them packed. That's probably why they didn't see a problem to have their dogs running around.
And as herding dogs, they were probably very, very well trained ;) , and that would explain the owners' nonchalance, knowing that everything is under control.

They are sheep herding dogs... they would of stopped at the property line.

Even if a dog is chasing you indefinitely, kick it in the fuckin' head. It's a dog, you are a man. Fucking act like one.

That didn't look like a pack of well trained dogs that were moving sheep.

The farmers were probably nonchalant because they were assholes.

I would love to see you kick a big angry dog in the head. With paramedics standing by for when that dog fucks your world up.

Welllllllllll, it really depends on whether or not they think you're higher on the pecking order than they are...or tougher, more aggressive, etc. Kicking a dog in the head won't necessarily lead to a bitten off foot.

Sure, but an angry dog on the street isn't going to make that determination. Best course of action for an angry dog on the street is to be non-confrontational, not try to kick it in the head.

It is better to wedge something inside the dog's mouth to prevent it from biting you. Then you can get a hold of its lower and top jaws with your hands. Holding onto the lower jaw will prevent it from closing its mouth. With your other hand, pull the upper jaw in the opposite direction and with enough force to remove the top half of the dog's head. You are a simian - use your ape strength to defeat a wolf.

No, it looked like a pack of well trained dogs that were moving a cyclist. Did you notice that they lined up to block the path to the place they were coming from, and "pushed" him down the road without even getting close to him ? And I'll stress again that they all stopped barking at the same time once their owner arrived. Yes, definitely well trained dogs.

Well trained to shut up when their owner arrives, not well trained to be able to handle a person on the road.

Even if they are well trained enough to not attack people given , the owners should not let them roam around harassing people on the road. A well trained group of dogs is not let loose to roam around scaring people.

That's true, they shouldn't let them loose and I admitted it already. It still was nothing more than someone getting scared because he doesn't know dogs. No danger here.

I know dogs and I'd still have been scared. You're downplaying this incident but the cyclist cannot be blamed for reacting the way he did to the farmers. If they'd gotten in their mind, those dogs could have easily killed him.

the dogs thought he was being a Baaaaaa-d sheep.
